On Electric

The issue with my experience came down to the contractor not showing up when scheduled and then repeating this twice more over two days before finally showing up. All-in-all, it was about six hours of waiting and an hour to do the work. Customer service or the folks scheduling could have been nicer given the circumstances.

Steve arrived on time and quickly went to work. I had two incandescent light fixtures with attached (plug-in) fluorescent lights in my garage that kept blowing out, as well as an illegally installed outlet. Steve removed the illegal outlet, suggested installing a legal outside outlet - which he did - and also recommended replacing the two incandescent lights with hard-wired fluorescents, and getting rid of the plug-ins. While he installed the outside outlet, my son went to Home Depot, picked up two new fluorescents, and Steve installed them. While he was here, I also discussed with him another outside project, which he was kind enough to advise me about. All in all, I'm extremely happy with the service from DeKorte and will definitely use them again.

Polite and on time, it took almost two weeks for the appointment though because of the influx of customers through Angie's list. In the end four outlets were replaced because the original outlets were near 30 years old and simply failed due to age.

I bought their coupon for two hours of electrical work. I had them install three new light fixtures in my older (1920s) home. There was time left over so he offered to hunt down a mysterious switch that had baffled my husband and I for years. He quickly figured out what was wrong and fixed a three-way switch for us. He also tested an old doorbell mechanism and found that it wasn't working and that we could replace it with newer wireless technology. He helped disconnect the non-functioning mechanism. Randy was very professional, punctual and easy to have in my home. My dog loved him. I am super-pleased at all that I learned about the electrical system in my house and will definitely call them again to help me out.

The electrician was on-time, polite, and professional. The work went past the time of the Big Deal and there was a permit involved, so I needed to pay extra. The extra time was explained at the beginning, but not the permit. I did most of the clean up as he was working so that cleaning would not cost me extra.

Job was done quickly and professionally. Will definitely contact them again for any electrical work that I need to be done.

This is a great contractor, with top-notch service, great follow-through, and integrity. I had them over to get some loose outlets replaced. There was some confusion in terms of them being able to use outlets we purchased, but they moved quickly to rectify it and got the work done very efficiently. The visiting mechanic was very polite and thorough. I would highly recommend them.

Steve was pleasant, respectful and professional. He found polite ways of insisting that work be done the correct way (not the way I had figured out). He crawled in the hot attic. He cleaned up properly. He was a paradigm of flexibility, in that he was able to use my assistance with pulling wires as a way to cut down his time charge and was able to use some parts that I supplied without making a fuss. He thoughtful in his problem-solving and wasn't in a rush. At the time I arranged the appointment, the receptionist realized I wasn't requesting a completely standard job, so put me in touch with the owner, who spent sufficient time with me on the phone to understand what I wanted. He explained that there would be an hourly charge for time spent over that allotted for the Angie's List Big Deal and for materials provided. He didn't tell me that there was need for a City permit that would cost an extra $30--maybe I should have known that. In general, I was extremely happy with this business and its people, and the job was properly done. Their hourly charge did seem high (but I have no comparison to the going rate for residential electrical work). I would gladly do business with them again, but would get competitive bids before doing another job.

I had explained at the beginning that I had paid for two hours and did not want to go over the time limit and I would only have him install as many new switches as he had time for. With ten to fifteen minutes remaining he began work on an outlet. I questioned whether he was going to be able to finish and he assured me that it would be fine. There was a problem with the way the outlet had been installed originally and he ended up going 15 minutes over. When he came in with the paperwork, the bill was an add'l $185.00. I explained that I had paid $99.00 for 2 hours and did not want him to go overtime. He agreed with me and dropped the fee to an add'l $36.25 for the 15 minutes extra and 30.00 for the permit plus 5.00 in materials for a total add'l fee of $71.25. This seemed fair and I was happy in the end. Just irritated that he tried to charge me $145.00 for 15 minutes of work that I did not want performed.

When I first phoned for the appointment they were slammed until middle of August. No biggie, then they phoned me two days before my appointment to reschedule my appointment. I was becoming a bit hesitant about the ratings this company received. Then Randy showed up on the appointed day, checked out where the light would go and hung it up. Walked me through everything and made certain all the fixtures worked. He made sure that we had the permit on our electrical panel and explained to me why we should have that, and offered to look at anything else. When I mentioned the doorbell, he offered to look at my doorbell that doesn't ding d***. Turns out that the wiring is backwards and I need a new one, Randy explained it is so simple I can do myself and showed me how. I would use this company again even without an Angie's List coupon, but having one sure did make it nicer.

He came out on time. Very helpful and knowledgeable. Did everything I needed. It was just small stuff, but I have an old house and just like a car things break. I would use them again. Thanks!

all went well, all was done in the time paid for by the deal. materials charge was reasonable and expected.

It went very well. Steve tracked down a short in a circuit that services a bed room, two bathrooms and a portion of my living room. He methodically tracked the source of the short, which turned out to be a loose wire in a wall socket. It took about 40-minute from start to finish.

They fixed the problem on spot. There was a defect when orginially installed and they fixed it.

We had an Angie's List coupon for 2 hours labor. We thought the tasks we had lined up might take much longer. We were extrememly pleased that all the work was done under the 2 hours we had purchased. We definitely will use DeKorte again!! Randy was great!

Much better than expected, was more complicated than I thought it would be. Coupon was very labor only, the extra cost was the parts that were reasonably priced.

Steve was very efficient and knowledgeable. He fixed several issues and finished a little early. Because he finished early, he didn't charge me for any parts which was a very nice gesture. I would use them again and would ask them to asign Steve to do my work.

Bought an Angie's list deal to have them come over to do some electrical work. He was a little bit late but called before hand to let me know. Also there were some parts missing so he had to "pause" the clock and go back to his shop to get them. Overall did a really good job and cleaned up after himself. I wish he had finished more in the 2 hour time window but given that this is an older house it probably took a bit longer to get things done,

Went great. Very friendly only charged me $30 for a limited electrical they need to get to cover themselves in case they are inspected. Put a sticker on my electrical box so I too am covered. Will definitely call next time for sure.

It was great from start to finish. The electrician did a good job of explaining the issues that I had, and he did a good job of repairing them.

I thought It had gone well, but I did not check a storage room light until the next day. The light fixture no longer works. I tested it with other bulbs and it still did not work. I called the company and was patched through to the electrician that had done the work. He said that the light had worked when he left, and I could hire him again to come out and resolve the problem. I talked to two other contractors that said they would have come back to see what happened. I do not plan to use this company again.

Steve came at 8:00 just as promised, was friendly and professional about his work. He moved a plug in that is in the carpet (which we are going to have replaced later this month) from where it was over two joists for us. He was quick, extremely safty concious and used a vacum cleaner to take away what he was drilling and cutting out to place the plug in a different spot. There was not even a speck of dirt remaining. Would I use DeKorte again - you bet I would if we need electrical work done. We chose this company due to a Big Deal and were not disappointed.

Dan arrived early and went right to work once I told him what I would like to see done. I was using a coupon for 2 hours for $99.00 but we went a bit over that. I had thought the light sensors would be first but he wanted to work on the troubleshooting. He knew that would take the bulk of the time and he was right. This was no cursory examination. He was under our house a couple of times to check if he could find which "j-box" the wire went into, he couldn't. He checked three other switches to see if the wire went to those. [I forgot to mention this is a 1993 manufactured home so things are a bit wanky]. Finally came to the decision that the wire was somehow broken between the switch and floor plate. Not wanting to tear up drywall I'll have him come back to take care of that another time. He was new to the Portland area and we hit it off well. If he is an example of the rest of the employees I'd use them again in a heartbeat.

Sam came to give us a quote and stayed in touch each day. Randy did all the work, including a full day on July 4. The job was done within a week and easily passed inspection. It was great!!!
