 + -1 moreThe team was unable to capture my photos and documents from my old laptop, as they didn't have the right tools to do so given the age of the machine. However, they destroyed the hard drive and recycled what materials they could at no cost. I was a little disappointed not to get my old photos and documents, but in reality, it wasn't a loss.  + -1 moreBrought the computer in and explained the failure mode. Told them if the repair was going to be and gt;$100 to let me know and I would probably just scrap the computer. They ran diagnostics over a couple of days and a bad WiFi Card and memory module. I had suspected the WiFi card since that looked like where the boot process wound get before resetting. They replaced the WiFi card and memory module and cleaned up the disc for $70. The computer works better than ever. Excellent job for a very reasonable price. I would definitely recommend them.
Description of Work: Desktop computer would boot and then quickly reset. I could not get it out of this loop.

 + -1 moreScott is very helpful and intelligent. He's kind and has your welfare under great consideration. He thinks outside the box to solve problems or envision future plans. He has a lot to offer to find solutions for your computer needs. He tends to talk a lot to help you understand what he is accomplishing you, although most people woudn't understand the details. I think this process also helps him to think things through. If time is most important, it's best to let him work on his own until the completion when he can give you a synopsis. He gets pretty busy with clients, so prebooking is most helpful! With last minute bookings, his availability is unpredicatable.

It was a long time ago, but I had to follow up with them multiple times, and in the end, the laptop was a throwaway. Maybe the laptop was unrepairable - but instead of dealing with it professionally, they kept putting me off. Maybe they've improved.

 + -1 moreBoth Sean and Scott were professional and knew a great deal about computers. Their charges were fair. They made recommendations on various related subjects that were appropriate and helpful. I will use their services again the next time I need computer help.
Description of Work: July was a month of computer crises at our house. First our laptop would not turn on. The lights on the key board would only flash for a second before turning off. I thought it was totally dead. When I called Ace, Sean thought he could fix it. Sure enough, he did by soldering something inside. He said that my model of HP laptop tended to have this problem and that there was a chance it would recur. He recommended I get a cooling fan for the laptop, which I did. A few weeks later, the same problem happened again. Sean fixed it promptly with no charge. It is still running. At the same time my desktop was having numerous problems. Scott from Ace came out and, after running some tests, said that my hard drive was dying and that I needed to get another computer as soon as possible. When I got the new one, he helped install in and get key data transferred over and programs working. However, a couple weeks later, our new computer started to have a lot of crashes. Scott came out and after testing and checking internal records, said the new computer's hard drive had problems. Back to Costco it went. I got a different one from Costco online and Scott came out to install it. It also had problems so back it went. Finally I got one that worked. Once again Scott helped install it. It is still working.

There was a switch that wasn't working when we brought the computer back home, then we took it back and they fixed it while we waited. The guys are great, knowledgeable and easy to talk to. They don't use technical language to talk and they look for customer's satisfaction and they want their customers to be satisfied. Their price is competitive.

 + 0 moreVery good! Very very helpful, very professional and very knowledgeable. I will call Ace Computer in the future should i need computer repair, or if I have computer questions or problems. Scott didn't even charge for all the time he spent. Very good experience.
Description of Work: Scott set up our new computer, shut down undesirable ad-ware installed updated ad-ware, and ran full system scan. Scott also showed us some very cool applications we would have never found on our own.

 + -1 moreMy Compaq desktop suddenly began failing to complete the start-up process when turned-on. It would go though the initialization sequence but reset just as it was finishing. I suspected a virus and tried re-starting in safe mode. I was able to get it working somewhat but could not completely fix the problem. I took it to ACE and they agreed it sounded like a nasty virus. They quoted $80 and about a week to fix it. When I picked the computer up they confirmed that it had a couple of viruses and they had installed a new ani-virus program. They were also able to save all the data on the disc. I was able to re-install the lost programs and re-connect to my wireless network. I was very satified with the service and would definitely recommend them to anyone needing computer service.

 + -1 moreThey are very professional and showed or explained to me, when I did not understand something. They also will tell you, if the repair is not worth it. I trust them in any way. I am an old lady and I know they care for the customer and the work they perform.
Description of Work: ACE Computer not only checked my old computer and cleaned it, they also put a new computer together for me with more storage and power. When I had trouble with my computer after several months, I brought it over and they replaced the modem for free and I never had any more problems. Gary and Scott are very friendly and know all the different computers. They can find out fast, what is wrong and I find they are very fair with their pricing. I have friends which paid lots of money just to look at the computer somewhere else. So I really recommend ACE computer store, if you want a new computer or for repair.

 + -1 moreThey were able to fix my computer problem without having to backup any of my programs, and it is working better than it has in at least a year. I did have a repeat problem a few weeks later, I again could not connect to the internet. However, when I called and took it in they fixed it for free, because they provide a 30 day warranty for previous services provided, so I was really happy about that. I will definitely use their services again.
Description of Work: My computer would not let me connect to the internet, so I called them and they said if I brought it in they would look at it and should be able to fix the problem. They also stated that if they needed to do something that would require erasing all of my programs, they would back it up for me. They did say it would take a few days, because they worked on a first come, first served basis and they had some other computers ahead of me, but considering other companies wanted more than $100, I decided it was worth the wait.

 + -1 moreThese guys are amazing. They are very courteous and clear in their explanations. They answered all of our questions immediately and we are completely satisfied with their work. Their store is in West Linn which is a haul for us, but it's absolutely worth the time and energy to get over there. I will definitely use them for all my future computer repair needs.
Description of Work: They evaluated two broken laptops. The first turned out to have a fried video card. They explained the options for repair, but they were clear that it would cost more to fix than to replace the machine. It cost $20 for them to evaluate and research the issue. We brought them a second laptop to look over; this one had a spastic keyboard. It turned out to be a virus issue; they got the machine up and running again for $80 (Dell wanted $300, without looking at it and giving us only a 1 hour window to decide if we wanted them to do the work).

 + -1 moreMy experience was great! Gary the technician said things often get loose when PCs are in transport. He opened up my IBM PC, adjusted what needed to be done, and then turned it on to ensure it was working. When he was done, I asked how much I owed him, and Gary said "Nothing. it was just a loose connection." The only thing that would have improved my overall experience, was if ACE were open on Saturdays.
Description of Work: After being professionally moved from Seattle to West Linn, OR, my PC at home wasnt firing up after being stored in Bekins warehouse for 7+ weeks. I got ACEs telephone number from Angies List and explained my problem. The technician on duty tried to "walk me through" what he thought was the problem, but I decided to take my machine into their office. Transporting my PC, also avoided paying an $80 in-home repair fee.

 + -1 moreClose and convenient. Looked at it while I waited. Hard to say whether success was due to anything he did or just randomness. The price seemed a bit steep for less than 10 minutes of looking! The repair guy was fine but the other guy was your typical salesman - oh, yours is SO old, dont you want to replace it with one of these new ones..... and on to the sales job. I hate places that denigrate ones perfectly good items that one is trying to repair rather than replace. Whether I would use them again would depend on the nature of my problem and how far Belmont computers was backed up!
