He was a few minutes late, but that just means he was giving the previous person great service. So he stayed a few minutes more for my appointment. I have no problem with this at all. He was informative, patient and thorough. I'm going to make another appointment to do the other things he recommended to optimize our computer. Very reasonable considering how important our computer is to our lives.

My desk top computer was acting strangely. Unwanted ads would pop up after my computer was not in use for a while. My Yahoo mail account was not behaving as before. I called Softserve and Marvin came to look at it. He showed up on time. He explained the problems clearly to me. He cleaned out all the unnecessary programs. In addition, he showed me ways to prevent getting malware. I was very satisfied with the services he provided.

Marvin was very professional. Arrived about 45 minutes early and called from the driveway to see if he was too early. He spent two hours, mostly with my primary laptop and was patient in explaining everything he was doing and why. Gave me lots of tips to avoid problems in the future. Installed virus protection software for free. He also checked my old laptop and removed spyware from it as well. The problem I had called about - Outlook not receiving mail - he fixed right away. Both machines are now working smoothly and are much better protected from invaders from Cyberspace. Would not hesitate to call him again rather than spend many hours trying to figure it out myself.

My laptop hard drive crashed. Marvin came to the house at the appointed time. Determined hard drive had likely crashed and probably needed to be replaced. He took the laptop to his shop to repair and returned with repaired laptop a week later. He replaced the hard drive. He was able to save quite a bit of data from my crashed hard drive and damaged external drive. He was very helpful in explaining what he had done. He recommended virus and spyware programs. The laptop now works great. I was very pleased with my experience with Marvin. I will definitely use him again.

Marvin did a wonderful job. I asked for a quote on a new tower computer, and rather than just proposing something he asked me what I use a computer for. Based on that, he determined the components and forwarded a quote to me. We scheduled a day and time to pick up the old computer, and he was punctual and prepared. He took note on my email, standard programs, etc., so he could have it all set up. I was only without a computer for 3 days (over a weekend), and the new computer installation took perhaps an hour. He advised me on a number of uses, such as full scans vs. quick scans, and proposed a few pieces of software that would help the computer experience, such as a different virus protection than the one I used, and a program that gave a quick review of the potential of a web site having a negative impact. The new computer runs flawlessly, and as the original quote included a larger power supply than the one provided, Marvin returned a week later to quickly install the appropriate one. Everything is as he promised, and I will definitely contact him in the future for any computer needs, be they hardware or software repair. I've had probably 10 tower computers in my life, and this is one of the best, if not the best. And Softserve PC's Inc, Marvin and his wife (who schedules the work) are one the best vendors I've dealt with, ever.

This is my personal UPDATE/EDIT from what was posted earlier by Angie's List. I purchased the Big Deal for the service, and it turned out wonderfully. He was prompt, courteous and congenial. I did buy a notebook from him. He copied documents/photos from my old hard drive to the new notebook. The keyboard on the notebook is "stiff" so to speak. Some keys do not register when touched - I have to almost do the hunt-and-peck scenario (I am a typist, so this is bothersome!). The amount of the Big Deal was worth it, as he worked on my computer for several hours. I also purchased an external hard drive and a new wireless router as mine was on its last leg. He synced my wireless printer to the notebook as well. No additional charge for the extra services!! I talked to Marvin after he contacted me about the earlier review and he will order a new keyboard. Sorry if the previous writeup caused anyone to not hire Marvin to help with all their computer needs. I will definitely hire him again if I need more computer help. I told my neighbor about his service and they also hired him to work on their computer.

Marvin deleted a lot of junk applications that had found their way on to the PC. He installed several free security applications. He took the time to explain many dos and don'ts to help protect the computer and its system. Later on, I will have him come back and tackle some problems with my other PC. FYI. Working on computers and the operating systems require an unpredictable amount of time and so it is hard to keep to a schedule. So unless you are the first appointment of the day, expect slippage of time of arrival for appointments later in the day. Marvin will call when he is going to be late. You just need to be flexible. When he does arrive, it will save time and effort if have a list of things you would like him to addressed. Marvin has been doing this for years and seem to really know this stuff inside out,

I first engaged Marvin to diagnose a problem with a laptop I had. He was prompt and spent a fair amount of time questioning me about how the laptop came to it's current state and also explaining what steps he was taking to diagnose it. At the end of the visit, he summed up my options for what service he could provide for me - data recovery, data recovery plus a new laptop or PC, or nothing. After a few days of reviewing the spec sheets he had left on the custom systems he builds, I decided to purchase the PC and have Marvin transfer the laptop data to the new PC. I already had a monitor and peripherals. Marvin picked up the crashed laptop from me, and called about a week later to give me an update on the delivery date. He had to wait for some parts delayed in shipping. I was in no hurry; fortunately I had a backup of the laptop data, and having the new PC wasn't time-critical for me. Another week or so later I had an appointment for Marvin to deliver the unit. In the interim, he had suggested I purchase a new printer as well, and he made a recommendation for which brand and model. I had the new printer on hand when he delivered the PC. He was about an hour late for the delivery appointment and hadn't called. I did call his contact number and was assured he was on the way. I would have appreciated a call from him just to let me know he had been delayed. Why set a specific appointment time if in reality it's an appointment window? At any rate, he unboxed all the components and hooked everything up, as well as explained in detail what he was doing and how things worked. I've worked on computers since the mainframe days, and I'm a quick study, so I found some of his explanation repetitive and somewhat patronizing. We had some confusion over the configuration, what with various operating system versions and hardware connections, as I have a work laptop that I need to share the peripherals with. We had discussed my setup previously, but when it came time to install the PC, Marvin didn't seem to grasp how I expected to have this new PC work with my existing setup and business processes. Overall he did a great job, and delivered exactly what he said he would, including discounts. Marvin is sincere and wants his customers to be happy. His prices are excellent, his work ethic is based on building repeat business. The PC has worked flawlessly in the past few months, though I ended up reconfiguring my setup a few days after the delivery. I know Marvin will follow up with me for yearly maintenance, which reassures me that I will get many years of service out of my investment.

This is a difficult response to write. In the 19 years I've been in business having over 1200 clients (86 of them posting on Angie's List) I've never had anyone speak to or about me in this fashion. My very next reviewer in fact nominated me for the page of happiness!.. Anyway, I don't understand it but I feel compelled to correct the inaccuracy's listed here. The delivery date was 9 days after I picked up the laptop due to a delay with the parts instead of the usual 7. Not weeks as suggested above. Next I have never been an hour late for an appointment and I always call as soon as possible to let people know that the previous appointment is running long as can happen in this business. Perhaps if she had called the number marked "cell" approximately 1 1/2 inches to the right of the office number listed on my business card I could have let her know sooner. Next I'll say that I am sorry she found my instruction on the care and operation of her new computer repetitive & patronizing. I have a routine that I go over with people when I deliver a new computer. It is informative and helps you to get the longest life out of your system with things like keeping up on the dust and installing updates and which ones are important. Something most people find helpful. Next you had a KVM switch so you could share an existing monitor, mouse, & keyboard with your laptop & new PC. This piece of equipment is not confusing. You plug the stuff in and it works. There is only one way to plug it in so I'm not sure what you mean by confusion. The printer is the same. I've installed a 1000 printers in the last 24 years. does it work or doesn't it? I tested it along with everything else like I always do before I left. The problem here seems to be a communication problem/personality conflict. I'm sorry that you the reader has had to read all this but I am upset as you can tell and my reputation is very important to me. I hope that you'll still consider using my services. Thanks.

Amazing experience in customer service. Marvin came to the house on Friday afternoon. One of the symptoms was a "diskcheck" process that keep starting, then stalling. Marvin was able to get to the cause of the what was driving the check disk process, which was a potentially failing 3rd drive, which held my media files. Once he had gotten the system to work, then he used the checkdisk process to check all 3 hard drives, and each time the 3rd drive showed an issue. So we discussed what was happening. It appeared the the malware was only resident in memory, and since I never click on any of the buttons, it was unable to transfer to my system. So no malware infection, as it appears that when I shut off the power strip, it then caused the malware resident in memory to be erased. Regarding the hard drive, Marvin advised that given the check disk stalling at the same place, it was likely that the 3rd drive was failing. So he gave me an estimate to replace the 3rd drive and I could then drop off system at his home the following we if I so desired to proceed. At that point Marvin told me the bill for the house call was only $30.00, as there had been no malware to address, and the only work done was working through the check disk issues. The following week, I dropped my computer off to have the 3rd drive replaced. A couple days later Marvin called me and said when he used is duplicating system to copy all 3 drives, it was not finding any thing wrong with the 3rd drive. He advise he would check further and let me know. We got a call on Friday that the system was ready. When my wife picked it up she was told there was no charges to be paid and "nothing was replaced". It's amazing, Marvin could have replace the drive, charged me for the new drive and the installation and we would never have known the difference. The 3rd drive is working just fine. So Marvin worked on my computer twice, once at my place, once at his home and he would only accept payment for work done...a total of 30 dollars. I can really understand why Marvin has so many customers who have bought multiple systems or had multiple service engagements completed. The man is professional, ethical and knows his stuff. This was the second hard drive that went bad. I feel that Dell uses much more inferior hardware when replacement is necessary. Marvin responded immediately when I sent him an e-mail. He quoted me his rates and honored the coupon I obtained off Angies List. Also, I got a new customer discount. Marvin went over and above when he ran into much more extensive problems. He spent more time than the 1 hour that was to cost $75.00. In any other shop my bill would have been close to $500.00 but he honored his original quote of 1 hour. His abilities and ethics are without equall. I got my laptop back within 3 days which is great for as busy as he is. I would recommend Softservepcs to anyone needing computer service in the Portland Metro area. Thanks Marvin, you're the man!
Description of Work: My Dell laptop which is only about 2 years old had a hard drive meltdown. Marvin replaced it with a much more reliable drive and basically rebuilt it. He was able to clone my files off the old drive and reload them which was fantastic. He cleaned up the registry and got it running much faster.

Marvin (owner & technical wizard) of Softserve PC's did an excellent job of cleaning up and tuning up my computer to improve its performance. Softserve PC's built my computer seven years ago and it is still performing well; however the graphics card was old enough that it did not support some of the new applications I was using. Marvin recommended and installed a newer graphics card and my system now performs extremely well. He selected a graphics card that was appropriate for my usage to minimize the cost of the new component. My family has had Marvin build at least three computers for us over the past 12 years and they all have been excellent machines. He also has performed our periodic maintenance and tuneups for our machines. We feel that he is an excellent value as he only does the work necessary to make the computer run well and does not try to sell any extra items. We have found him to be very responsive, always on time, and very quick and efficient. He truly cares about the quality of his work and is like a craftsman.

Softserve PC's Inc did a good job. I had interaction with them two weeks ago. I used a coupon that I got. I like the fact that they wouldn't charge unless the work was done. It was an okay experience and I have very difficult problem but I don't' feel like I solved them and he was pretty frustrated when he left too. I don't want to give him bad marks for that, on the other hand I can't say my issues were solved. The price was excellent.

I'm not sure exactly how to respond... I've never gotten a B grade on Angie's List before.. As I remember I spent 2 service calls & over 3 hours fixing your network problems and yet I get dinged for the printer problem?.. A 15 year old network printer connected via parallel port to an 8 year old laptop connected to the network via a USB wireless adapter. No I could not get it to work despite my best efforts. If your router wasn't buried behind the drawers of your custom made desk I would have hooked it up correctly for you and would have got it to work. I also did not charge you for the trying but none the less, I stand by my original advice which is to replace the printer with a new wireless model ($109.00 - HP - Costco). I charged you 1 hour total for all the problems I did fix and with your coupon you've spent a total of $49.00. I will be sending you a refund immediately for for all your trouble. A deal’s a deal, I guarantee my work and you’re right, I did not fix your printer issue. Next time though would you please let me know when I write the bill instead of on a public forum like Angie's List? I would appreciate it. Thanks. Marvin @ SSPC's

They have done 6 complete different system upgrades for us over the years. Three desktops and three laptops. They are wonderful. All of the PC's work great after he works on them. If you run into any issues, he will access your computer online if you give him permission, and fix the issue. They are very fair financially. They are usually out to our home within three days. We have alot of trust in them, and they do no work on Apples. I have used them for about 15 years.

Marvin was a little too talkative but full of knowledge! Overall, it went well with the only hitch being parts not coming in as expected so the install of the new computer was a little delayed.
Description of Work: Marvin came to our house and evaluated our computer and the problems we have been experiencing. After showing me the problem we determined that a new computer was needed and he provided specifications on the basic computer he builds and sells. After a couple of days of research, we had him build and install the computer. He copied our files from the old hard drive to the new computer, installed it, and reinstalled various software programs. The computer was ready to use immediately.

Description of Work: My computer had several glitches and needed to be synchronized with wireless. Work was done in home and results were terrific.

I started out by purchasing a special deal of one hour's worth of service for $49. What I got was so much more. Marvin really opened my eyes about our old eMachine. He did his best to make some headway with it on that first visit but it was definitely on it's last legs and simply not worth salvaging. I do believe that if anyone could have extended it's life, it would have been Marvin, but my husband and I decided that after 11 years, it was finally time to upgrade. Marvin came back out and picked up our old one, took it home with him, transferred all the data and programs into a newer rebuilt HP he had and then promptly had us back in business again just two days later with a newer, faster machine. He did all the labor, coming to the house three times, and also shared so much valuable information with me I almost checked off the computer training box as well. He's extremely knowledgeable and takes the time to really explain things to you. Let me tell you, you don't find a bargain like this very often. I appreciate the time he took, the expertise he has and the absolute professionalism he exhibits. You can't go wrong by calling Marvin, and I will definitely let my friends and family know about him As far as any future repair or machine needs, I'm glad to know who to call. Never again to step foot into a big box computer store. Thanks again Marvin!
