It was in an odd place. There was a lot of cross talk with people in the company. Then I was dealing with another guy and he didn't have all of the details from the first guy. They need to pass down their communication to each other. They showed up at my house twice instead of going to the other location.

The contractors showed up right on time - the leader was very professional and informative. They clearly could have spent all day on my lot because we have a lot of work that needs to be done but, for right now, I just wanted a couple of major spots fixed. They got to work right away and I ran back to work. When I got home later that day, I found that they had expertly fixed exactly as we talked about. It was great. I would definitely recommend them!

Contractor arrived smoking a cigarette. Not even a question as to whether that might or might not be acceptable on this job. Didn't know how to position his truck to get to the job. Didn't bring the contract papers with him. Despite me sending pictures of the job, the installer/reparirman had not seen them and had no idea what he was getting into, said after arriving that he couldn't do it without a boom truck. The siding had been installed without a boom truck and repaired years before without a boom truck. At that point I'd had enough, and asked them to leave.

You have said it perfectly, when you have said "ended up doing nothing". We did not work for you. You would think that someone would save an F grade for a company that provided them with bad work or did something horrible. As soon as they instructed you they could not do the job safely without proper equipment you became upset. We have to follow OSHA guidelines and use proper equipment. I am positive you have left negative reviews for many businesses. I am sure we were fortunate to not actually work for you. It is an unfortunate that businesses have to deal with grievances for individuals they don't actually work for. It is amazing to me what some will write and click send, without any regard for the impact of small businesses and the employees they are responsible for. I only hope this doesn't prevent us from serving others. We are a great company that does great work. We go to great lengths to provide amazing customer service and quality.

We purchased Angie's List offer for dry rot repair. The company painting manager/supervisor Jay was extremely responsive and arranged the work to accomodate our schedule. Two workers arrived on time. Noah was in charge and impressed me by going over the project details carefully and professionally. He kept me informed throughout the day. They were able to save the original wooden facia, saving us at least $600 to have a special piece milled. They protected our plants and other property, and they totally cleaned up the work area. Because they were not qualified to provide the specialized work to line the gutter with metal, they recommended contacting another company to complete the work. Because rain was forecast, they secured a cover over this section of gutter until the lining can be installed. The work was completed in one day and the repair looks great.
Description of Work: Repaired dry rotted section on wooden gutter on our front porch. This gutter is integral to the architectural detail on our 1917 vintage home.

Workman showed up right on time. We reviewed the area of the house that was showing some signs of dry rot. The workman pointed out other areas that needed attention. He asked if I wanted whole sections of siding replaced and I indicated I was only interested in replacing those areas with the dry rot. Since he did not have any materials for the repair with him, he asked if I knew of a Parr Lumber store near my house. I told him there was one nearby. He started work then left for approximately 2 hours, presumably to find the materials. When he returned, he continued work on replacing 5 small sections totaling roughly 12 feet. While painting the replaced areas, I noticed two areas missed within the same location where caulking was applied but the siding was not replaced. When I discussed this with the company, they said they would come out and do the extra work. I questioned why this was not fixed with the original job as discussed and asked for someone to come look at the work that was completed. They declined to come out and review the job. Since they had already charged me for 7 hours labor and $120 for materials, I was not interested in having them return and charge me for more work that should have been fixed correctly the first time. Will not use the company again or recommend them.

Everybody has a bad day, and that's true for companies, too. I ran a small contracting business for several years, and I know it happens. Some jobs just go wrong. What matters, in the long run, is how you leave your customer feeling. The job I hired SFW to do was to replace some rotted wood around an old, double-hung window in our house. They did that, and the work they did looks very solid and well-finished. It looks good, and I feel confident that it is good quality work and will stand up to the weather for years to come. But what should have taken just a day to fix stretched out from late spring through the entire summer, and included multiple scheduling screw-ups, a "repaired" window that would no longer close, billing issues, flaring tempers and a knot in my stomach that didn't go away. Today is the first day of autumn, and today my window can close again and all the dry-rot is fixed, and the knot is gone, and believe it or not I would hire them again. And that's because Bryan knows the secret about it all being about how you leave your customer feeling. Apparently, the power of Angie's LIst is not to be underestimated. After posting their "deal" here, SFW was inundated by a quantity of business that threw them into emergency mode. This kind of thing can be devastating to a business not prepared for such volume. To their credit, they did get their feet under them again. So today at the job site, three and a half months after this simple job was begun, Bryan made sure the job was finished correctly and that we were happy. Then he took the time to explain to me what had happened and I understood how a company with such a great Angie's List rating could be so disappointing to work with. He went further, though, in acknowledging the ways in which we had been let down and our job mishandled. He took full responsibility for it, and I mean, he really, personally took full responsibility for it. At this point, I was already happier about the whole thing. It was a relief to have it acknowledged. Then he tore up my check, and that really surprised me. It showed me that, for this company, "It's all about the customer service" is not just PR. The quality of the work and their reputation have never been an issue, but now I have renewed respect for and confidence in this guy and SFW Construction. Thank you, Bryan.

Description of Work: Replace dry rot cedar siding.
I had purchased the Angie's List deal for $149 for 4 hours of wood rot repair. I purchased the deal in June, and the work was performed in August (they had about a 4-week waiting list, and I had other conflicts). In early August, they called out of the blue and asked if they could start work in about an hour. I was about to leave for work; I scrambled and arranged to stay home for another hour to meet the workmen and get them started. Then they called back and said that they would be at the earlier job longer than expected, so instead we scheduled work to start the following morning. On the first morning of work (August 11), the crew (Scott and Brent) arrived promptly at 7:30am. I showed them the three windows that had wood rot issues. After assessing the situation, I agreed to add a fourth window to the repair job. Scott called me a few hours later and indicated that the work would be more complicated than expected, since the wood frames had been installed incorrectly on top of the siding. To do the work right, he needed to remove part of the siding before installing the window frames. At the end of the day, Scott showed me the work that had been completed: all 4 window frames had been removed, three wood frames had been installed and 2 had been caulked. Scott and Brent returned promptly at 7:30am the next day (August 12) to complete the work (install 1 window frame, caulk 2 window frames). On the morning of the second day, I showed Scott some damage that had been caused on the interior of the house (dry wall nails had pushed through and cracked paint in the bedroom, and a small hole had appeared in an interior window frame in the kitchen; Scott spackled these spots. I also noted cracking around the kitchen window frame where it abutted a tile backsplash which I later caulked). On the exterior of the house, I inquired about several small holes that had been created above one of the windows; Scott said he would patch the holes. However, that evening as I assessed the completed work, I discovered that the holes had not been filled; since rain was expected soon, I rushed to a hardware store to purchase spackle so that I could fill and then prime the holes prior to the rain. On Friday, August 14, I received an invoice for the project, which included 16.75 hours for the first day's work and 13.5 hours for the second day. I asked for additional information or documentation about the hours charged the second day, since it was more than than I had expected based on the remaining work. The accountant, Tanya, contacted Scott who indicated that the work on the remaining window took longer than expected. She credited two labor hours and removed the debris removal fee from the invoice. The following Thursday, August 20, I mailed the check; on the same day, I was mailed a "Notice of Right to a Lien." I contacted SFW Construction to confirm that my payment had been received and that a lien would not be filed. Overall, I feel that the quality of the work was very good, but I have concerns about the total hours that I was charged and I was surprised by the lien notice.

OK. I found a bit of dry rot over my front door and went on Angies list. I left a message for SFW, asking for an estimate. Their guy called back and said they didn't give estimates because the work was unpredictable. He gave me their rate, $65.00/HR per employee plus .20 markup on supplies. He said they typically sent out 2 guys. I said lemme get some estimates, but other outfits failed to call back so I went back to SFW and they sent out the 2 guys. Fact, the lead Guy, Scott, called me a day early, said they'd either had a cancellation or finished a job early(!), I can't recall which, anyway, could they come out, start early? Well, of course. So they showed up within the half-hour, and I showed them the bit of rot over the door, plus a damaged bit of wood on the patio. Scott walked the house, pointed out several potential problems, and I was figureing, aw dang, here comes the sales pitch, but he just explained the issues and got to work on the dry rot. Brent, the Jr. on the team, went to removing the shingles VERY CAREFULLY so they could be replaced, while Scott went to listing everything they'd need to buy to replace the damaged wood. (this was on a Thursday.) Friday came with a prediction of rain, so I definitely wanted that roof covered before the rains came, but they were working on the patio, where Scott had identified a lot more trouble than I'd reported, (one post needed replacement, another space which never had a post, needed one installed to prevent further sagging. So they were hard at it there. However Scott said he knew it might rain and they wouldn't take off till the roof was finished, and they did not leave till it was. I pointed out a place where the shingles were misshapped and he repaired that area. Scott had found several shortcomings in the work done by previous "carpenters", so the work on the patio went well over my original request, but he was careful to point out exactly what needed doing on each issue, and why. So I'm confident SFW was not inventing work. We discussed an issue with some guttering on the patio and Scott fashioned a drain that would carry rainwater into my fishpond, very creative. They worked till 4PM , quitting time, Monday but left some mess, which they came on Tuesday and cleaned up well. Brian, their estimator, had given me a quote for replacing the siding, and I asked him about the Angie's list discount, since I hadn't actually purchased their services thru The List, and he said, well since I'd found them at Angies, he'd make sure I got the discount when all was said and done. Their billing person e-mailed me once saying she'd sent a bill which was incorrect, and I should ignore it. How many providers ever tell you to ignore a bill? I asked about the Angie's list credit, and Tanya, the billing person, said she'd have to talk to Brian, but later said she couldn't get hold of him so she'd just give the credit, and emailed me a correct bill with the discount. So I said I'd write them up good on Angies List, even though I hadn't gone through them in the first place.

Horrible!!!!! We got the four hours of siding repair "deal" through Angie's List. When I scheduled the contractors I told them we would have to approve anything over the initial 4 hours. They said they always did that. On July 28 two men showed up and we showed them the two issues we were concerned about. They started working and I went to work. Never did anyone from SFW call me to ask our permission to perform any work over the 4 hours. The next day I got this via email: Hello Annette, The following is an update of labor hours and material purchased for your project as of Tuesday, July 28. Labor Hours 21.5 @ $65/hr. $1397.50 Material Purchased Parr Lumber #6655309 $112.80 Lakeside Lumber #10450711 $165.08 Should you have any questions, please contact me. Thank you, Tanya BaccaySFW Construction LLC I immediately replied that it was an outrageous bill. Reminded them that the men were at our house for a total of 6.5 hours at the most!!!! I offered to pay a more reasonable sum, but they never replied. Today I got a NOTICE of RIGHT to LIEN on my property from SFW. I am requesting Angie's List for help in this rip off.

This is an amazing company. They rescued me in a desperate situation when rodents had made a hole in my garage siding due to errors in original construction long ago and were building nests in the garage. The first crew closed the hole in the garage. The second crew removed my siding, replaced insulation ,sheathing, and siding. They poured a foundation to fill a hole that shouldn't have been there. The siding job was beautifully done. The crew left my property in immaculate condition. I will hire them anytime I need help! This is the kind of professional service that is rare in 2014.

Steve, the owner, was able to meet with me almost immediately after my initial phone call. He measured the two-story house assessing painting needs for this home that was built in 1956 (lead paint issues needed to be taken into consideration). After his review, he wrote up a preliminary contract that detailed all the painting and clean up needs for the job expensing out each item. After discussing my wants versus his recommendations, he drew up a new finalized contract with a payment schedule based on the completion points of the job. While the gel sealant was an expensive part of the painting job (Steve recommended this for older homes with cracks in the wood siding), I decided it would help seal the cracks and provide a more finished look. Also I decided, per his recommendation, a 2nd coat of paint with a 25 year warranty that definitely added a deeper sheen to the paint color upon completion. His crew came out quite readily despite having other jobs on their list (I was so thankful to catch the last few days of nice Fall weather for this project). They worked quickly and methodically, power washing the house, securing plastic to the windows and doors for protection and carefully placing tarps over the plants. Even though they worked quickly, I noticed that safety was a very important point and Jeff, the lead, made sure that everything was being done properly and within safety parameters. The fellows were very nice and answered any questions that I had throughout the process. They even helped to have one door opening so that I could take my dog outside during the process. When the painting was complete and all screens/storm windows, etc. were installed, Jeff went over the final 'punch list' of items such as areas that needed more touch-up or maybe some screens that needed readjusting. The company was very thorough to ensure that I was completely satisfied with their work. They did an amazing job and Steve, the owner, would alert me via email or phone when the crew was scheduled to come out which helped me adjust my schedule accordingly. The house looks absolutely fabulous and the crew did an awesome job in a very short amount of time. I will definitely use this company again for any roofing needs, as well, in the future since they were all so dependable and professional. High marks to everyone for a job well done!!!!

Professional company and honest owner. ?Steve had the desire to do the right thing to protect my investment, like take all windows out and place water proofing material in properly and replace the windows (our home is 20 years old). ?I wasn't sure that would be necessary and asked if he would do the work without doing every window, just the ones where there was evidence of a problem, but he said no he could not warranty his work. ?So, although I think he would have been a person I could have worked with and would do a great job, I didn't care for the inflexibility. ?There was no room for negotiations. ?I'm not a fan of replacing something that is working if I don't have to. ?In the end, the cost of the siding work was above our budget and we still had to add painting to the price.

I started out by getting quotes from contractors for a small shop to be built. I was shocked at how expensive many of the quotes came back, however SFW gave me multiple options which allowed me to get exactly what I wanted within my budget. I was very pleased from the first day they came out, they kept my yard clean and tidy, took time to ask questions and protect plants while building the shop. Not only did they do a great job building the shop, but Steve also took the time to explain the difference between materials and the pros and cons of using one or the other. I believe I avoided making mistakes in how I wanted the shop to be built because Steve took the time to educate me about how new construction is done and what will hold up over the long run. I also had them install French doors from my dining room to lead out to where my shop is located, which added light to the dining room but also makes it great as I can hop outside quickly during the winter, or leave my doors open in the spring and summer to bring in fresh air. My relationship has grown with Steve and his crew, as I had been meaning to do some additional work around my house but just do not have the time to complete some of the projects I would normally tackle. I had been meaning to update my bathroom, and Steve took the time to assess the layout of the bathroom when he found dry rot under the toilet and shower. I had them come back out and they ended up gutting the entire bathroom and remodeled a outdated 1960's bathroom into a beautiful modern look. I have travertine floors, a mahogany counter/cabinet with new sink, new toilet, and a new shower/bath that is practical for my kids but also beautiful enough to please my wife. The before and after difference is as stark as night and day. After the other projects were completed I also had our house painted, which looks fantastic and my wife pointed out that they took the time to put drop cloths and masking everywhere so we didn't have paint drips or spray marks on our foundation or plants. They also took the time to properly prep for paint by pressure washing, caulking and sanding my cedar shakes. I wanted to point that out as well, as my neighbor paid some painting company about 20% more for his house to get painted but they didn't caulk and prep and not even a year later he had paint bubbles and cracks. SFW Construction takes the time to do things right the first time, and they also walked us through the options so we could better understand what to do and how to maintain it afterwards. So after all this work I finally bit the bullet and had my roof done as well which was again very clean, quick, and it looks fantastic. My previous roof had 2 layers and most of the plywood had to be replaced which wasn't in his original bid (which was the 2nd lowest out of 4) and he only charged for a few hours and for the plywood itself, when I know it took his guys more than a couple hours to replace almost all of the roof's plywood and trim. My parents, neighbors and friends have all commented on how big of a difference the remodel has made. My wife and I were originally planning on selling as soon as the market rebounded a little, but we are thinking we are going to stay now that we are enjoying our home. I always thought you had to fix up your home to get someone to buy it for a higher price, but Steve has helped me realize that with minimal maintenance and work done correctly the first time you can create a home that literally will last your lifetime. Our home actually feels like a home and I wish we would have had the work done sooner. I cannot even begin to explain how great Steve and his crew are, taking time to cover plants, move things out of the way, cleanup, prepare, and focus on the quality of their work. Their attention to detail is impressive, not to mention the extra things they did like filling up my Doberman's water bowl or explaining how their tools work to my two young children. I encourage anyone to call or email me if you would like to know more about SFW Construction, I wasn't thrilled about paying for a membership to Angie's List but finding the right person to come into my home and perform work is important, I hope you find my long and wordy review helpful! A+++++ all the way, Steve is a rarity among contractors and I cannot speak highly enough of the integrity and care that ALL of the employees at SFW Construction took to go above and beyond the call of duty to make sure I got the best materials, best craftsmanship, and the best customer service possible.

I also had my dining room window removed and new French doors installed, which have built in blinds in the glass which makes cleaning very easy. Bathroom gut and remodel, down to the bare wood with a new drywall, a travertine floor, sink, bath tub/shower, and toilet. Also exterior paint (multiple coats) and trim work. After all of that work I had a new roof installed that came with a 50 year warranty.

It took a little longer than expected but that was because things came up that no one could predict. They paid careful attention to preparing the work site so it would affect as little of the rest of the house as possible. The workers were all extremely prompt and polite. The finished product has exceeded our expectations.
Description of Work: SFW gutted our master bath, and built it back from the bottom up. They did new siding, new windows, framing, drywall, tile work, light installation etc and coordinated cabinets, counters and plumbing.

Thanks for the honest review, [member name removed]. It's always tough to predict how long these things will take before getting into it, but this was a great project and we are so happy that you are pleased with the final product!
We love SFW Construction! We have had several contractors out over the years to repair leaky windows and to caulk problem areas. We just had heavy, heavy rains which would typically leak, but for the first time in 13 years, not one of our problem areas leaked! The caulking was done with great care using high quality caulk. We couldn't be more pleased. The painting is excellent and was performed according to the manufacturer's specifications to insure the full life of the paint. Previous paint jobs would show wear on trim after the first heavy rains, but our trim paint looks freshly painted after several days of heavy rain. The removal of our old door was done with great care and none of the interior floor tiles were damaged in the process. The new door was installed and all the detail work completed i.e. putty on the nail holes, caulk, touch-up paint, etc... Our fence looks amazing! Not only were the boards prepared properly, but they were sprayed with stain and then the stain was rolled in so it looks very uniform and the stain saturated the boards for great protection. Several things stand out about SFW Construction that insure we will continue to be a repeat customer: Outstanding work ethic-- these guys work hard and do it right the first time Attention to detail-- they work to do the very best job possible NOT bare minimum to make it acceptable. They do not cut corners or do shabby work. Very neat-- This is very important to us. We've had several work crews out that leave a big mess (fast food containers, empty supplies, etc...) behind them. SFW Construction cleaned up each and every day they were on site. Respectful-- The crew was professional while being personable, well-mannered, and respectful of our home and our family. We would highly recommend SFW Construction to anyone who wants high quality work completed correctly the first time.

SFW construction came out to give me a bid on exterior work on my house. He worked with my budget in mind and even came in under budget with out even asking him to. They even performed some stuff that was not even asked of them without and additional cost. The job took less time than anticipated and was performed very professially. There was never a mess for me to clean up at the end of each work day and the job site was very neat and clean. They removed windows to prevent laeking that was installed in correctly by a previous contractor with out any question. The work was exceptional and I will be highing this contractor in the near future to build my house in 2 month. I feel totally comfortable putting them in charge of any job no matter how big or small it may be.

Overall, I was extremely impressed with the attention to detail and the quality of work completed. I could not have asked for a better job! As a result, I recommended SFW to my boss. My boss used SFW Construction to paint her home, and she was equally pleased with SFW construction.
Description of Work: SFW Construction was contracted to come pressure wash, prep, and paint my home. All work was completed with the utmost care. Windows and doorways were carefully masked, and drop cloths were used to protect my plants from damage. SFW Construction maintained a really clean worksite, tidying everything up before leaving each day. There was no overspray, all trim lines were impeccable, and the end result was flawless.
