SFW installed a second story window in my house. The man doing the work (Foster) arrived on time 7:30 a.m. and his assistant Ryan arrived at 8:00 a.m. my husband and I had the window and most of the frame out, we did this from the inside and a new custom window on hand ready to install. My husband is 80 years old and I did not feel comfortable having him on the ladder. This is how dumb I am: I actually thought that when a company charges 200.00 plus per hour for two men to install a window theyâ  d do it in a timely fashion. They arrived with every tool in the book even a table saw and wood pieces in the truck. The window was in by 10:30. But he needed a piece of wood. They went to a lumber yard and it took two men 2.5 hours to get this piece of wood so the 2x4 and a few ancillary odds and ends cost us around 450.00. When they returned there was only the outer frame to install, a drip cap, and sill. In the end I was billed for 16.5 hours to install a window the total bill was 2293.00. Donâ  t get me wrong I am happy to have the window in and the men did a good job in the end but in my opinion this should not have taken two men 8 hours plus, this was a morning project at best. All along the way the people I dealt with were very nice. This appeared to have been an upsell opportunity for SFW and they can say anything they want but this was not efficient by any means. I did learn two valuable lessons; never assume a high hourly wage is a sign of efficiently and always get an estimate!!

The workers are doing good work on the project. They do not work with any kind of urgency and are taking 3 times as long to complete the job as what their sales person had proposed when I engaged them. They over-charge for the hours worked. They will claim 8 hours when they are on site for 6 hours. You have to pay close attention to how they bill and what they bill their customers for. For instance, they will bring an over-sized trailer for hauling away a few pieces of waste that can fit in a small cars trunk at a rate of $140/day. They also slap on a 20% handling fee for picking up what is already expensive lumber. They do not seem to care about doing what is right for their customer on the business side. Again, the work that they they have done thus far has been good. The sales person estimated the work would take 3 - 4 days. 4 days into the project and they are not 1/2 way finished. The company seems to more about gouging their customers at every step and not doing what is right. I am happy to be proven wrong if they come back and finish the job in a reasonable time frame. Thus far, I would not recommend using them.

I never get back to them because they did not deliver what they promised. I hired them for repairing a part of my siding (cedar shingles) which was the root cause of the water leaking. Then visited the wall on the first day and they said they can fix only that part of the wall. When they removed the shingles of that part of siding, they said they cannot replace the cedar shingles and they have to remove the entire wall and re-install all the cedar shingles from top to bottom. They claimed it is just faster to remove all the way to the ceiling and redo everything, which was not true at all. That ended up to more than $10000 and it doubled the time of the project. Only a few feet of the wall needed a repair but they killed the whole wall. The top part of the wall was in a good shape and all the plywoods backing the shingles were good as well. I did not expect that much cost and was not ready for paying that quickly. Then they stopped working because I had only one day delay in paying the balance which quickly raised above $5000. After I paid the balance, they returned to work, but they did not deduct the off-time in the next bill. Every day, they charged about 16 or 16.75 hours of work for two men, but in reality they worked about 10-12 hours effectively. They were supposed to spend 30min for launch but their launch time was never less than 45min. Very inefficient workers. Horrible experience when you realize you have no choice but keep paying unacceptable bills just to finish the project in the middle of winter.

Have had nothing but exceptional service from SFW. Whether it be via phone with the office staff Jordan, Phillip, Dave et.al., or in-person estimate from Jay Reynolds for exterior house paint or with Angel and his carpentry crew for repairs on the garage. They are professional and knowledgeable. I would recommend them.

I am not knocking the quality of work that SFW performed or the communication, clean up, and the general demeanor of those doing the job. I will warn that the process is incredibly expensive by the hour. I signed on expecting to pay $78 per hour for labor. What I did not expect was to pay the same rate for every delivery driver, assistant, etc. What started out as a window dry rot repair was stretched into a 3 day deal of 46 labor hours for a total of $3500 of just labor cost. Be cautious about scope creep. Materials will also be at or above full retail, and they will mark it up another 20% after that... before having the $78/hour driver delivered it.

Excellent experience. SFW crew was very professional. They explained the water damage they found and how it would be repaired. No half-way measures or just cosmetics....they did it right! Very pleased with the clean-up and end result. We will definitely hire them for other home maintenance projects.

Last spring we decided to paint our 26 year old house. In preparation, we found our house needed repairs for water damage to the soffits due to leaking gutters. After calling a number of contractors we decided to use SFW Construction because they had experience in dry rot repair. Two experienced employees, a carpenter and sider, came to our house to repair the damage to the soffits, rafter tails and some siding. We were impressed by the quality and how thorough they were in uncovering the damage and making repairs. They arrived everyday, on time, informed us about what they were doing, kept us informed, answered our questions, and kept the worksite clean. After their work, we had the house painted and installed new gutters. The house looks like new. Thank you SFW Construction.

SFW s no bid, no contract methodology results in a uneven playing field for the consumer and what is equivalent to an open checkbook for the business. Bills only included supplier invoice copies upon request. We had to request the invoice backup each time we were invoiced. Never have we been directly billed for garbage bags, a saw horse, and even paper towels, as a separate, stand-alone cost at a price that was nothing short of absurd. All materials are billed at a 20% mark-up, example one tube of caulk $7.74 plus 20% mark-up. Billable labor hours for unskilled labor, driving are at the same rate as siding repair and replacement hours. Skilled labor is billable at the same rate, regardless of the skill level and efficiency from a more experienced workforce down to assistant. The same job could be accomplished in distinctly different time frames based on skill level. There is no reason for SFW to not draw out a job for whatever reason they deem necessary, as there is no estimate or commitment to job length, costs, labor, etc. I specifically asked in writing for a complete audit on this project against similar work to determine inequity in job completion costs. While I did receive phone and email communications, none addressed these cost concerns. Replacing siding on one side of our house with very limited need for wood replacement, due to rot, became the largest contacting cost we have experienced for any of the three homes we have owned including much larger and more complex bids and contracts. I can state emphatically that through the lessons learned from a no-bid process, we will never engage with SFW or any other contractor who structures their business model in such a way that incentivize the contractor at the expense of the consumer. I not only do not recommend SFW, but will go beyond that in communicating to the general public and consumer protection agencies regarding the allowability of SFW s blank check approach. While the quality of the work appears to be acceptable - the cost to arrive at the desired destination is without fairness or limits. We recognize that we relinquished our rights when we agreed to such a one sided arrangement despite being forewarned with the original PDF and required email acknowledgement of receipt. SFW practices could easily be described as predatory and less than forthright. The good news is we are working with a new and improved contractor to finish the repairs and paint we had originally hoped we could have accomplished with SFW. We accepted bids, evaluated them and entered into a jointly beneficial contracting process that has elevated our path to completion moving forward.

I used this company to do some work largely because out of 10 contractors in the Portland area I contacted, they could start the work in a timely fashion (3 weeks instead of 8 months to a year for others I talked to), they were licensed and insured, got pretty good reviews and had no complaints from the better business bureau. They repaired some water damage and replaced some dry rotted siding and painted the work. They weren't the cheapest, but I wanted to get the work done before fall. They were professional and did a great job that included having to re-frame a sliding glass door into a screened porch, replacing flashing and siding. They also fixed a couple of vents that got painted shut in a timely fashion. I was completely satisfied with the work they did. The real test will come when the rainy season starts this fall though. One note I would mention is that they work on an hourly basis which makes their estimates pretty much a guess, especially with water damage and siding which can be tough to see exactly how much work there is to be done until the siding is actually off. That being said, they worked pretty quickly and it didn't appear to me that they were just trying to pad the bill. The one thing they could have done better was explain their billing process. They sent me a bill every few days, rather that one bill at the end or a deposit at the beginning, for the work that was done for the preceding days. I didn't have a problem with their method, but it was confusing at first. Overall, if you are willing to wait potentially months or up to a year, you might be able to find someone to do the same job cheaper, but if you need work done in a timely fashion, I would completely use these guys again for home repairs.

SFW was great at scheduling the work and communicated every step of the process. The morning they showed up, we went through the job and my expectations. Throughout the day, they showed me the issues they uncovered and asked for my approval for their proposed resolution. They took pictures of each phase and shared those with me. They did a great job and I would hire them again.

Fantastic Company. They are very knowledgeable, professional and do quality work. They explained the entire process to me and kept me informed as the work progressed. I had a siding repair and replacement project. Their scheduling is excellent. The tools and supplies trailer arrived 30 minutes before the crew and work started immediately upon the crews arrival and start time. The foreman and assistant were excellent workers and answered all my questions. They also did the painting and installation of shutters I purchased. The work required a period of 2 & 1/2 days. The company provided a daily update on cost and and labor hours. I would highly recommend SFW Construction. Pricing is also excellent. They supplied their material mark-up percentage and suppliers. No hidden secrets. I located the company on the internet as they advertised a coupon for their services.

SFW Construction is a highly professional, and more importantly, trustworthy company. Over the years we have interviewed and hired other companies to fix issues in our house and have been less than satisfied with the completed work. This was not the case with SFW Construction. SFW Constructions craftsman (those that did the work) was always professional, patient and courteous. They kept the indoor work area clean and protected the surrounding areas from damage. The craftsman kept a photo journal of all the work they did, from identifying the root cause to final fix. They explained each step of the fix, associated costs and pros/cons of alternate solutions. SFW Construction office staff showed a high level of responsiveness and respect. We enjoyed working with all of you. We would definitely use this company again and would recommend you and your company without reservation.

SFW recently came out to replace some warped vinyl siding at my house. There was a bit of a delay in finding the right material, but once they found it the work was prompt and looks fantastic. I had a couple of other contractors bid on the job but they said they couldn't precisely match the siding, or I would have to buy an entire box, but there was no such issue with SFW. We did have a bit of confusion on the billing, but SFW handled it very professionally and I came away very happy with the service I got from them.
