Martin and Sherry are completely incompetent. Sherry is unresponsive, and unorganized. They didn't have any contingency plans (which the rep who quoted us said there would be), and Martin was extremely rude and unhelpful when they mixed our move up with another move, telling us the day before move day that they wouldn't have a truck for us. I can quote Martin as saying "I don't care what [the guy who quoted us] said" when I asked about the guaranteed pick-up day in the contract. We heard later that they even acknowledged their error to other members of the move team, but they never contacted us to correct it or apologize. If the driver hadn't gone out of his way (driver doesn't work for Lile) to deal with everything we would have had a serious scheduling issue and probably lost tens of thousands of dollars paying another company to quickly move us. Save your money and sanity by not working with these people, they were essentially a complete detriment to the move process with other people having to pick up their tremendous slack.

Response from Lile North American Portland
Hi [Member Name Removed], I am sorry the move did not go as well as planned. As we have explained in your reviews on Yelp and Google, there were some obvious extenuating circumstances that you have left out. Martin and Sherry both have numerous years in the moving industry. Both with Lile and with other moving companies. Calling them "completely incompetent" isn't fair or justified since your move was scheduled during a winter storm in the Portland and Columbia Gorge area. Both I-84 was closed due to a landslide, and US-26 was experiencing extreme weather from a snow storm. They were concerned about the safety of their crew to load your belongings if the truck driver could not make it to your house. Thank you for reaching out to us. You can contact our Tualatin or Corporate offices if you have any additional questions or feedback.

We met with Mike Shell from Lile. We asked Unipack to help coordinate our move to Hawaii and they arranged the contact with Lile. Mike came to the house and was very professional and provided us an estimate and options for moving our household goods. I would work with him again.

Description of Work: Lile pcked up my storage household goods anda stored them securely for over one year. Further they moved my remaining goods to a new home in the interim. Then finally rfeturned my stored items back to my ne home upon request. My service experience with Lile was stellar in every way. As a Certified Business Coach I teach the meaning of Customer Service and my experiences with Lile replicates the highest of my ratings for Customer Services provided. I had a really great experience with Lile Moving & Storage. Their moving consultant, David Valencia, came out to my house and went over everything I was going to move. He was very thorough, explained the whole move process to me, and gave me several estimates because I asked for a couple of options. On the day of my move their crew showed up right on time at 8:00am. Both fellows were neatly dressed in uniforms and were very friendly and courteous. The move out of my house went quite quickly. Most items were already packed, but I had them pack up my most fragile items since I thought they would do a better job than me. I was very happy with how they packed up my glassware and china. The boxes were neatly packed and not a single item was broken. When we arrived at my condo, several people had parked in the areas that were designated as ?no parking? even though I had put out parking permits and caution tape early that morning. This was a problem because there wasn?t a place to park the moving truck. We finally got a spot for the truck, but there wasn?t room to put down the ramp so for the first hour, the crew had to hand pass the items to each other. They worked quickly, and eventually a car moved and we dropped the ramp. From that point, the move went really well. They placed items in my condo as well as the basement storage area. I really appreciated that they rearranged my furniture a couple of times until I liked the layout. I also appreciated that they covered all the carpets and walls so nothing would get damaged. They were very polite and didn?t take a break the entire time they were there. Overall, I had a very positive experience with Lile. I thought they were very professional and would recommend them highly.
Description of Work: Lile moved me from my 3 bedroom house (2 stories plus basement and garage) into a condo in SE Portland. They provided moving services plus packing of my most fragile items – antique china and glassware as well as some furniture. Everything was delivered without any damage. Fantastic experience!

Description of Work: My dad was moving from his house to a retirement facility. There were front-load washer and dryers and some other items we cannot move ourselves. The original salesperson said it would be no problem and should take no more than 3 hours. The workers came out and said that they didn’t have the equipment to move the washer and dryer. The worker offered to go home and pick up the special bolts to secure the washer/dryer in Tigard, but that would be on my time and with my money. I called the salesperson as the movers said they would come back and move it on their own and just charge $150 under the table. The salesperson said that would probably be the best option as they are subcontracting these men out. I said ok, fine. They came back a week later to finish the move and they seemed hardworking. I asked where the special bolt was that they needed previously as I only saw them using foam to secure the washer and dryer in place. They said oh, well we don’t need that on this. I called back the company and salesperson and they finally agreed to refund one hour of their time. I said this is crazy as it cost an extra $150. I feel like I had no choice in the matter and was forced to accept the under-the-table option. They never admitted to wrong-doing, just that there was a problem. If I hadn’t been there, I don’t know how they would’ve treated my father during the move.

Response from Lile North American Portland
Please accept our sincerest apologies for the frustration experienced by the customer during his move. It is Lile’s goal to provide our customers and their families with a seamless move from beginning to end. Due to a miscommunication the crew did not have the specific washer service kit necessary to move the washer safely when they arrived. Our crew arranged with the customer’s son, Ken, to acquire the appropriate kit and to come back out and finish the move. Upon research they learned that the washer required a foam kit, not the typical bolt kit used by the majority of washer models. They purchased the kit and completed the move of the customer’s washer and dryer. The total amount estimated for the move came to $351.75. The total collected (including $150.00 for move of washer and dryer) came to $384.50. As a gesture of goodwill we will issue a check to the customer for the difference of $32.75. This situation has been brought to the attention of the Lile’s Regional Vice President and steps have been taken to ensure that this does not occur in the future.

We are very unhappy with the way this move has been managed by this company. It is difficult to separate the pickup of goods from the storage or from the delivery of the goods so the entire company is subject to this evaluation. In our opinion, there was a *lack of coordination in evaluating our needs/desires for the move, *our furniture was returned covered in dust, *lack of responsiveness to communications, *little to no acceptance of responsibility, and *abuse of staff (by not keeping sufficient folks to unload in timely manner and not using tools (e.g., appliance dollies) to assist staff. We chose this company having been told by their representative when giving us the estimate that ?pods? could be used, transported to their facility and then delivered to our new home. We thought this to be a good idea since our goods would only have to be handled twice rather than four times (loaded to truck, moved into storage, reloaded to truck, unloaded at new residence). We later learned this was not possible due to the constraints of our driveway at our home in Corvallis. A truck arrived the morning of August 24, with four staff to pack our belongings (we lived in this home for 17 yrs so there was a lot of stuff). The movers worked with humor, diligence, and coordination to pack the goods to the truck. Later in the day they were skeptical if they could fit everything to the truck they brought so asked for a second truck to be dispatched. Luckily, everything fit (without an inch to spare). However, about 30 minutes after the truck left, the 2nd truck arrived. Apparently, word had not reached the second driver not to come. Maybe this should have been an indication of the troubles (lack of communication and service) to come. The movers arrived with two trucks to our home in Portland on November 3, 2009. One truck was a flatbed with crates while the other truck had our goods inside. There were either three or four people unloading the container truck first. What I recall is that the larger furniture was unloaded from the truck (bedroom, living, dining room furniture, including our spinet piano). Once the truck was unloaded, it left leaving just two people to unload rest of goods from the flatbed truck with the wooden crates. On the positive side, all goods that were picked up in our old home were delivered to our Portland home. As they brought things off the truck, we were to mark things off the inventory list. This is a pretty chaotic process trying to keep up with the unloading and the calling out of inventory numbers. The two men worked until close to six in the evening so it was a very long day. In retrospect we should have slowed the process down to take time to look more closely as things were brought inside. It did not appear to us that they left enough staff to adequately unload the goods in a timely manner. Towards the end of the day, we were feeling badly for the two staff left. At the end of the day, we were asked to sign the inventory list and then handed a phone to respond to a survey of service. At this point, we were tired enough just to want the day to end and to get everyone out so we could leave. Again, in retrospect, we should have not accepted without a more thorough review of the goods delivered. A representative from the moving company (Bruce) called a couple days later asking about our move. I did appreciate the follow- through from the company. I told him that we were not very happy with the move overall at this point and we were still discovering problems. We did ask that some empty boxes be picked up. As I recall, I had to call back about a week later because there had been no response to our request for box pickup. I did then receive a call back with a commitment to pick up the boxes which did occur the same day. As we started unpacking on November 4th, we started finding problems. On November 20, I e-mailed Bruce with a preliminary list of issues/problems. We discovered our freezer that had been working in Corvallis no longer was, our bedroom furniture was scratched and a piece broken from the nightstand foot, drawers on dresser no longer worked as smoothly, and there were rubmarks on leather recliner. That further a small chest of drawers that had sewing and craft materials was not packed as promised (with shrinkwrap) to prevent loss/disorganization (I could have packed it all in a box). I also noted that generally everything that came from the truck (not in crates) was covered in a thick layer of dust. No response was received from my e-mail of November 20. On December 2, 2009, I again e-mailed Bruce with a follow up asking for confirmation of receipt of earlier e-mail and asking what next step would be. I also indicated that the appliance repair person we had called about the freezer indicated the compressor was out. I indicated to Bruce that the repairman indicated that freezers should always be kept upright during a move or while stored. We were making the assumption that indeed that did occur and the freezer had met its natural life and would not be seeking any compensation for damages. On December 7th, I received an e-mail reply that a claim form would be forthcoming. We forwarded a claim on January 12, 2010 to Lile International. On that claim, we conservatively asked for compensation for: nightstand repair $100; headboard repair $25; leather recliner repair $25. We did submit photos of the headboard and nightstand damage. A letter from the Claims Adjuster dated January 15, 2010 (finally a quick response) indicating that they would not process the claim until all storage fees were paid. We responded on February 4, 2010, with a check for amount due ($248.85) Further, we asked why it had not been collected upon delivery of goods, why they had not charged our credit card (we thought we had previously given authorization), and, if nothing else, why we had NEVER been invoiced for the remaining storage fees in order to pay. By this time, we had decided that we could not repair the nightstand ourselves; that it would require a professional to make sufficiently whole in looks and structure. The estimate was $275. When sending the check for storage I forwarded the information for the amended claim and the furniture repair firm estimate. We have since paid $260 for the repair. A response was prepared on February 10th (we received on February 18th) with a check in the amount of $25.00 for damage to leather recliner. Our claim for the nightstand and headboard was disallowed because we did not make notation as the furniture was delivered. Why liability was accepted for the recliner is a mystery. (Note: When we pulled out the nightstand to further investigate our options for repair, we saw a significant scratch on side. I noted this on amended claim without going back to original inventory list. In letter of February 10th from Claims Adjuster, we were referred to that inventory list which does show a scratch was noted. I would suggest the scratch was put on nightstand while they were breaking down bed. We purchased this bedroom set while living in the house we moved from, it was sitting in same place for number of years and only moved briefly for cleaning and painting of wall. I don't see how it could have been scratched to that degree by any action undertaken by us prior to the move). We have been professionally moved three previous times. We understand that things happen, scratches occur, things are damaged. What we have never experienced was the degree of ineptitude on the part of this moving and storage company.
Description of Work: We moved about 100 miles to Portland, OR. We were going to rent while looking for a home to purchase so we were looking for moving services as well as storage of goods until the move into our permanent residence. For an estimate we contacted the Eugene, OR office. The Eugene staff also performed the pick up of our household goods on August 24, 2009. The goods were then transported to the Portland, OR area storage facility for storage of approximately two months. Our goods were delivered to our new residence on November 3, 2009 in Portland.

When moving, it is important that the customer check the move paperwork and verify the condition of items upon delivery. When processing a claim a carrier relies on the documentation available. In this case, the member signed the walk through paperwork specifically stating that they had checked their furniture at destination and found no apparent damage except as noted on the inventories. In the case of the nightstand and headboard, the damage claimed is such that it would be reasonable that they would have noticed it on the walk through and should have noted such on the paperwork prior to signing. The damage to the recliner was minor and not in an area that would have been reasonably noticed upon walk through. Thus the original settlement for the damage to the recliner at the amount claimed. In this situation we are offering a goodwill settlement to the member on the items in question based on the valuation in place of 60 cents per pound per article or amount claimed whichever is less. At the time of pickup of the shipment the member signed releasing their goods at a value not to exceed 60 cents per pound. This limits carrier liability for loss or damage to .60/lb per article or amount claimed whichever is less.

I had to get several estimates for my husbands company. My husbands company approved this company because they were the lowest bid. I had to keep calling them. No one would call me. When they came out for the estimate they told me I would have a coordinator to help me through the whole move. They told me they would be there on 9/17. They said it would take 10 to 12 days to get my things to Atlanta GA. They picked up the stuff on the 17th and that went fine. I never heard from my coordinator. No one would call or e-mail me back. On September 22nd I got a hold and he said he would call me back. I called back 2 days later and they told me they fired him. They gave me a new coordinator whom I did not know and had no experience with. She would not return my calls either. I finally got a hold of Karen on 9/28. She was trying to get a hold of the driver. I called on 10/1. I was told they went through to Florida without dropping off my things. The final delivery date was to be 10/5. That was the real exaggerated date. I was then told that my load would not be there till the 8th because they sent my driver somewhere else. Finally Bud, the driver called me on the 7th to tell me he would be there on the 8th and we set a time of 7:00. We were sitting waiting on the 8th and he did not show up. I called Portland and they told me. He finally showed up on the 10th. That was 24 days later. There were no phone calls, no coordination from the people. They promised to reimburse us for our inconveniences and we never heard form the. I am very unhappy.

The member's shipment was transported under North American Van Lines authority. Lile, an agent of North American, was the booking/origin agent. As such we provided services including communication between North American's driver and the member regarding the delivery of her shipment. The shipment had a delivery spread between 9/25/09 and 10/5/09 as outlined on their order for service. The goods were delivered and signed as received on 10/9/09. Upon notice that the shipment would be delivered late Lile provided the member with the information necessary for filing of her inconvenience/delay claim with North American. We understand her frustration and are making ourselves available to assist her with filing of her claim with North American Van Lines.

The movers were not given ANY of the information I provided the agent and coordinator with, including directions to my house. The movers did not bring any of the packing materials I had requested, causing a 2 hour delay. The movers were never notified that they inadvertently took my trash can full of trash which subsequently sat in their hot truck for 4 days. All the lack of communication was not the fault of the movers, but the fault of the agent and coordinator. The movers did not cover the carpet at the old house, causing black stains on a carpeted stair from the dolly. I then requested runners to be placed at the new house, but they only had enough runners to cover half of the carpeted areas(The agent had shown me lovely photos of how well protected my carpets would be). There were only 2 guys to load and unload our load. It took 8 hours for them to load, and we only brought half our furniture (about 11,000 lbs which is considered a small load).

The Lile estimator, David Valencia, explained the process in excellent detail and did a thorough walk-through and estimation. The total number of boxes he estimated matched almost exactly what we ended up packing. We packed all of our own boxes, but we had good access to sturdy, standard sized boxes. The moving van arrived within the time frame given. The moving team of 5 men were very pleasant and worked quickly and steadily. They covered the floors, carpet, banisters to prevent dings and dirt. They took just a couple of short coffee breaks in 7 hours. We labeled all of the boxes D1, D2 for downstairs rooms and U1, U2 for upstairs rooms and put signs on the doors of the rooms. They moved all items accurately and swiftly. Nothing was broken. There was one small ding on the front door. The job came in at $400 UNDER what they estimated. I highly recommend this company.
