We loved the design and plant selections made by the project manager, Sheressa. We were given a timeframe but when it came to the day they did the work, there was no notification that they'd be here. They just showed up in the morning. We never saw our project manager during the work. There were three workers, and they seemed like they were in a hurry to finish our project in one day, which seemed unreasonable to me. I did have a glimpse of what they were doing when I stopped by at lunch. It all looked to be going smoothly. I asked if Sheressa would be here and got an ambiguous response from one of the workers. When I got home from work, they had finished and already left. We discovered that the concrete was not done as we had asked, was extremely crooked along the side of the house (as if someone had drunkenly drew as squiggly line), and the edging didn't line up on each side of the front steps. It was also cracking & crumbling within days. We called and had Sheressa come look at the finished work. She took photos, acknowledged that the concrete was done wrong, and arranged to have it re-poured. Again, the workers showed up without notification. I stopped home during my lunch hour to find them re-pouring the concrete INCORRECTLY! I had to stop them and explain that I wanted the edging parallel to the house. They had to move all the forms that they had built and partially poured. Phong, the branch manager, then came by to check up on the work and make sure we were satisfied. Things seemed great until a few weeks later, when we noticed that all the grass in the parking strip was growing up through the bark mulch. I called to complain and Phong apologized and said they would fix it. One guy showed up and plucked grass for 2 hours and sprinkled something that was supposed to inhibit the grass from growing back. Within a week, it was all back again. Frustrated and not wanting to deal with them anymore, I started clearing off all the mulch myself, digging out the sod and grass roots (which they were supposed to have done in the first place). It has taken weeks of my time and hard labor. Not to mention extra costs to rent a truck, dispose of the dirt at a waste facility, and buy more bark mulch....Needless to say, we will NEVER be hiring this company again!
Description of Work: We had the areas around the house and the entire parking strip landscaped. The areas around the house included a concrete edging and a small stone walkway from the front steps to the back gate. The parking strip (which is about 6 feet wide by 75 feet long) was initially grass with two small trees we had already planted. We had them leave the trees and wanted all the grass removed and replaced with drought-resistant plants, mulch, and some decorative boulders. The pricing was very reasonable and they were able to do the work within a few weeks of us signing the papers.

Response from GREEN THUMB
In regard to the issues raised by the client I think is obvious we stand behind our work and have addressed her concerns promptly. The concrete was done incorrectly and it was re-done appropriately. The location was moved by the client not because the crew placed it in the wrong place. The area, which is the focus of this complaint, growing weeds is not uncommon. Any area not under routine and regular care would grow weeds and grasses, especially when left for several weeks without maintenance as she indicated above. The soil was not removed and replaced and therefore any of the indigenous weeds and grasses would still remain and when watered would grow. I believe the client had an unrealistic expectation of the final product regarding the ongoing maintenance requirement. She signed off our contract and paid the balance due when all work was complete to her satisfaction. The added work performed by the client, in which she is seeking compensation for, would have modified the original means and methods of the project and would have adjusted the price higher in the first place.

They're OK.

We were generally happy with the results, with the exception that we had very specifically asked that the moss in a large planting bed be left as is since we had been cultivating it for 3 years. Sadly, the crew removed all of the moss. We did call regarding the bark nuggets not having been distributed evenly and leaving some areas not covered. The sales person Phil did come out so we could show him the problem, yet when the crew came out to correct the situation, my husband had to closely supervise so the work was done as we wished. I didn't discover the moss problem until a couple of weeks later as the weather was inclement and I had been ill and not able to inspect the job in detail. When I did see that all the moss was gone, I sent a pleasant e-mail to Phil to let him know my concern, but did tell him that, over all, we were pleased with the outcome as the yard does look very nice now. I haven't gotten any response to my e-mail. I might consider hiring this company in the future, but with a clear caveat that the work be well supervised, or at least assurance that the sales staff closely supervise and communicate with the crew.
Description of Work: We have a large backyard. They installed 5 yards of bark nuggets, cleaned beds, raked and removed debris (leaves etc), pruned shrubs.

They were prompt and I liked the end product. They worked really, really hard. The designer wanted to do everything by email and it became really difficult to make minor changes and I couldn't really do it because it wasn't timely and I couldn't get a message back right away. The communication with the designer was my biggest frustration and it was lacking. In the end I got 99 percent of what I wanted to get and the value was fine.
