We obtained several bids for our window replacements. In two cases we dealt with sales representatives, in the case of BD Window and Door, we dealt with the owner and the installer in the form of Doug Jacobs. He really seemed to know what he was doing, and gave us the lowest bid – something that would normally make us a bit nervous, but in this case we made the right decision to go with Doug. He is a one-man shop that subs for a major window replacement company and he also does jobs on his own. He showed up on time to do the measurements and ordered the windows and sliding glass door for us. When they arrived everything fit perfectly. The quality of his installation was truly EXCEPTIONAL!! He removed all of the old window hardware (he did not just cut off the old flanges and leave them in place as some installers do), and he cut the window openings, perfectly with hand tools. When he had finished the cuts, he edged them by hand to make a perfect fit between the wooden window trim and the vinyl windows – no little spaces or gaps. All the windows fit perfectly and slide smoothly. We wanted the outside trim boards the same color as the house, so he painted the boards on all sides at home before he brought them over for installation. Finally, he helped us obtain a rebate from the local PUD for the window replacement. All in all, the window replacement job was perfect. I would recommend Doug and BD Window and Door to anyone in the Greater Portland Oregon area without reservation.
