Called Bill to fix our intermittently working AC. He showed up and said it needed a regular service and refrigerant. 2 days later, it started doing the same thing again, so I called him. He came over and told us it needed a new thermostat. I ordered one and when it arrived, he came by to install it. Again, 2 days later, the AC started working intermittently. I texted him telling him it wasn't working. He asked some questions and said he'll try to fit us in the next day (see photo of texts). In that text, he also said he was guessing at the problem... not sure why someone who has been doing this for 30 years, as he told me, would need to guess. So I waited until the next day, and I also texed him to let him know what the system was doing in order to help him with a diagnosis, even though he's the professional. I waited and waited. 5pm came around and he finally replied saying he had 3 other clients to get to but he'd try. After that, he never replied (see photo of texts). I continued to try to get an answer as to whether he was even going to show up at all. I was completely baffled that he couldn't even take 2 seconds to text back and tell me he couldn't come by. I even said I hated bothering him... as if that's what I wanted to spend my time doing. Meanwhile, our house was extremely hot, and I didn't know if I should try calling someone else and starting over. I hesitated because we paid this guy almost $400 to fix the problem, and it wasn't fixed. We were existing customers who still had the same problem. Should we not be a priority? Had he just replied and said he didn't know what the problem was and/or he wasn't coming back and offered even a small refund, I could've dealt with that and moved on. My husband insisted that Bill was one of those smooth talkers who just wants to take your money and be gone. I believe that now and remember him talking over me a lot while he was here, which bothered me. We even tried to contact him the next day. My thought was that something happened to him. He seemed so helpful and nice while he was here. Hard to believe people can act like that. The cherry on top was when my husband, who hates any and all confrontation, decided to call him a few days later to get some answers. Surprisingly, Bill answered. He acted like he didn't know who we were (I'm sure because he was caught off guard). Once he finally "remembered" us, he told my husband that I was pushy and I kept texting him. Seriously? I was trying to help the guy form a diagnosis because he couldn't do it on his own. He left us hanging on purpose, when we could have been calling another company to fix the issue. He then hung up on my husband! Who runs a business like that? Just awful. The other frustration for me is that I sent him a referral the day after his first visit, and he got paid on that one too. Bill didn't know what the problem was (with all of his expertise), left us to assume he was returning, and then blamed me? He was certainly happy to cash our checks though, just like my husband said. I'm disgusted by this man and more than upset that I sent him a good referral.

Bill arrived early and proceeded to check out the furnace. He checked out the system, tested it, figured out the codes that the unit was indicating. Performed a test sequence, made sure the pressure switch was operating, checked thermostat function, and had the system working within 30 minutes. He adjusted the flame to be more efficient and got everything working properly. He assured me that my 20+ year old furnace should still be good for quite some time. He is personable and his expertise got the job done quickly. He told me I was just a step or two from a successful DIY repair. But it was his knowledge that got the job finished correctly! He charged me an incredibly small fee for his service! I would highly recommend him and his company to anyone.
Description of Work: I tried a do it yourself repair on my Carrier gas furnace, which was not working. I installed a new control board which did not fix the problem. I followed instructions-YouTube videos etc. but could not get it to work.. I realized that I was out of my depth understanding the electronics. I called Bill ford from Metro on Sunday and he agreed to come by Monday morning at 9:30.

My furnace started making continuous sounds that were alarming in their volume and variety. I shut down the furnace and looked online for someone reliable, who charges fair prices and found Bill Ford at Metro Heating Cooling & Mechanical. He asked what type of sounds it was making, I responded, then he said, "Give me a couple of hours and I can be there." And he was, within two hours I would say. He went straight to work, and almost immediately diagnosed what was wrong. The circuit board had discoloration near one corner where it was not quite but almost short circuiting, and that location caused the gas valve to also begin to fail. He pulled out the ridiculously-difficult-to-reach filters (I hate the ordeal and don't clean them as often as I should) and hosed them off for me and replaced them, then pulled the circuit board and tested things to ensure he knew what needed to be replaced. He called the manufacturer of the items, a local company, then went to pick them up after quoting the repair price. Before I knew it, Bill was back and well into the process of getting my furnace back in shape. Even though it's older, he said it was doing great and has a lot of life left in it. At this point, I am much happier paying several hundred dollars to fix what is broken than spending thousands to replace it. One adjustment to the blower (it was set on its lowest setting for some reason), and my furnace is running like new again. I appreciate how quickly he could get here, even though it's not the middle of winter and it wasn't an emergency. I also appreciate his fair pricing. I especially appreciate his vast knowledge and skill, as well as his professionalism.
Description of Work: Replaced circuit board and gas valve assembly on 1992 Rheem gas furnace, dusted all surfaces inside unit, cleaned filters, adjusted blower output.
