They were excellent to work with throughout the process. Advice was good during the planning stages, and craftsmanship was excellent. We are very happy with our new windows. We highly recommend this company.

Even though the installation took place in very hot weather, Peter did a great job. I was pleased with his skill, attention to detail with the framing (outside and inside) and things I expected I would have to do myself. (e.g. removal and replacement of blinds and clean up)
Description of Work: I wanted to replace 8 windows and a patio door for my 1962 ranch style home. When I saw the ad that Laura created for "Home and Gardens" in the Oregonian, Glenn gave me a quote, Arlene let me see the windows at their showroom and I knew I was choosing the right product and the right company for the job.

The sales presentation was easy. We had tried to hire 2 other providers who both ended up telling us their insurers wouldn't let them do condos when someone lived below the unit. Johnson Home Improvement promised us a great installation with new double pane windows and they delivered. 2 days of installation and everything is clean and beautiful. 3 windows were installed in the living room bay. Both bedrooms also had large windows replaced.
Description of Work: My Mother needed windows in her 1985 construction condo in Beaverton. The old ones leaked air and were single pane. Johnson Home improvement replaced 3 rooms of windows in the condo.

This was a fabulous experience. A+ all the way around. Glen came out and did a great bid with some terrific suggestions. The bid was very reasonable. In fact, it was $70,000.00 less than our highest bid (that is not a typo!) and $3,500.00 less than another bid. We had seen the work done by Johnson's at our neighbors are were really impressed with them. The work was estimated to take 12 days and it was completed in 10.5. We had a fantastic installer, Darrell, who was a dream to work with. He installed each and every window from start to finish himself. My husband is an engineer who is picky and he was blown away by the quality work done on every window. Darrell was able to schedule installation around a home office. He installed every window at the back of the house to minimize noise while my husband was out of town for four days. He even completely finished the three windows in the office area so that he never had to disrupt my husband when he got back into town. Windows were installed, trim added and painted the custom color of my choice, blinds were removed and replaced daily. I didn't have to do anything. This was much different than other window installers we met with. Other companies made me responsible to remove blinds and replace them as well as to caulk the inside of the windows when they were finished. Not so with Johnson's. Choose them and you just wait to see beautiful new windows. I am so happy with the entire experience with Johnson's. They will even take care of doing the paperwork for my rebate for me. If you need windows you will not regret your choice if you choose Johnson's

This company provided us with the lower of the 2 bids we got for this big job (both companies were highly rated on Angie's list but we chose Johnson Home Improvement partly because we were really impressed with the owner Glenn's knowledge and experience). The owner came for the original consultation (the other company we looked at sent a salesperson) and he answered all our technical questions (he even knew that if we went with sculptured grids on double hung windows, we would lose the Energy Trust of Oregon credit because those windows would not meet the U-value requirements, which the salesperson from the other company didn't know). We also liked how Glenn described all the steps his guys take to install new windows (cutting the fiber cement siding, the inside trim, waterproofing, etc ...). The project took 2 installers (Jeff and Peter) a little over 8 business days to complete. They were EXTREMELY professional, polite and friendly. It felt like our house was treated as if it was theirs. They were particularly clean and attentive to detail. They were very careful with our landscaping, always removed their shoes when entering the house, removed downspouts and outdoor lighting that was close so it would not get damaged. At the end of each day, the cleaned inside (very little debris due to their method of installation) but also raked and leaf blew outside. They also, as part of the bid, remove and re-install all the blinds (even re-installed some better than the way they were installed originally). As of a week after completing the job, we are very satisfied with our choice of Milgard windows (but we did not look into other manufacturers since Milgard was recommended by our architect as a reputable company). A couple of windows have a little scratch on the glass. The installers discovered these when meticulously cleaning the installed windows inside and outside and told us that they will contact Milgard who should replace the glass under the lifetime warranty that comes with the Tuscany series. We truly enjoyed working with Johnson Home Improvement. We will absolutely recommend them for their professionalism, quality of work and attention to detail. It was a pleasure to see real craftsmen at work who take pride in what they do, and do it right.

He was timely but initially reserved and seemed moody. He offered to look at my door lock, which was also not working correctly. The person on the phone said that the "snib" had failed and that it was an easy fix. When I brought this up, the worker (the owner's brother) barked at me, stating that snib is not a word and that he had never heard of it, which made me upset. Then he asked to borrow my tools to look at the rollers on my door, which he argued was not even a Milgard door. All of the windows in my hour are Milgard, as indicated on the frames. The guy was condescending about my home and seemed irritated with me. He then proceeded to say that my door was so old that he doubted that there were parts available for it anymore. My house was built in 1995 and is supposed to have "lifetime" warranty windows, but only for the original owner. I had just bought the house a few months earlier. After continued negative communication about the ability to repair my sliding door, I asked whether he could go ahead and give me an estimate for complete replacement. He said that he could not as he was not a salesman. I was really taken aback at this point. And I really didn't like the idea of having my pristine cedar siding cut to remove the windows. I finally gave up and asked him to leave, as there was no point in further communication. Bottom line: I took time off work to meet with a guy who appeared to be inconvenienced by having to come on the service call. I felt that HE wasted MY time.
Description of Work: The owner's brother came to the house to get measurements for replacement glass for a sliding door because the thermal pane seal had failed.

Response from Johnson Home Improvement
It is unfortunate you feel this is the experience you had with our company. We conduct our business in a professional manner with integrity and honesty as can be seen by the years of Angie’s List reviews and six years of Super Service Awards earned. Peter came to your house to measure glass for your patio door which had a broken seal and to see if he could help with problems you were having with it. The door is about 20 years old, we did not install it and it is not under warranty, but we came to your home to take a look at it for you. This was on our time as a good will gesture, not a service call. It’s unfortunate that you felt Peter “wasted” your time. You stated it upset you when he asked to borrow your tools. Peter was going out to his truck to get a screwdriver, unless you had one handy. He did not recognize the handle on this door. He took a picture of the handle and sent it to our office to see if it could be replaced. There was no “arguing” as to if it was a Milgard door. He stated that with the age of the door, he didn’t know if parts would be available. He continued to work on the rollers of the door and to adjust the side of the door which made it operate much better for you. You stated “The guy was condescending about my home”. Peter does not know what you are referring to. Soon after he got there you began complaining of all the work you’ve had to do to the home, the cost, Milgard, how the house was built. He made no comments. After Peter repaired your sliding glass door, you wanted an estimate for the cost of replacing it. Peter does not do quotes; the owner, Glenn Johnson does quotes. As he could not give you a price, he offered to call Glenn right then and get a ballpark price. You declined. When Peter described how a new door would be installed, that an exterior cut in the siding would have to be made, you became upset while raising your voice and using profanities about having to cut into your cedar siding. At that point you said you were going to have to take more time off of work again to have someone else come out. Peter was ready to leave and headed for the door. At no time did you ask him to leave your home. Through all of this, Peter did not raise his voice, argue, condescend, or feel inconvenienced. Peter is a professional with over 30 years of experience. It is unfortunate to characterize these events in such an erroneous and inflammatory manner and depict him and our business in this way. We were called and scheduled to come to your home to help you out, free of charge.

Glen, Peter and Arlene were the BEST contracting people we have met in a long time. They were sincere, honest, punctual, and thorough. They were one of the few, if not only, people who would install a single window and did not require us to purchase multiple windows to get the job done. We only wanted our one window replaced because the original bathroom window did not open. They are good, honest people and we all know how tough it is to find such people in the world these days. They were all more than happy to share their vast knowledge about windows and we would definitely use them again.

First of all, we got bids from two different companies that work with Milgard windows. We wanted Milgard because half our windows were of that brand and we wanted to have a consistent look. Glenn of Johnson Home Improvement was so thorough in our initial meeting. He spent about an hour explaining the process of removal, why they remove and replace windows the way they do versus other contractors, gave us options about the types of windows available and what would work best for us. I felt very confident in his ability to perform well. His contractors were fantastic and very professional. They were clean, quiet and courteous. They were very careful with our home and furnishings. They did everything like Glenn said they would. Our finished product is amazing. We have an older home (late 1940s) and some of the window holes were not square. They added wood and sealed it up all nice and tight so you would never know from looking at it that it was not plumb. Great job and I would definitely hire again.

The initial visit from Glenn Johnson, the company owner, was timely, thorough, respectful, and very informative. The bid proposal was complete, punctual, very cost competitive, and reflected a completely professional approach to our project. The carpenter assigned to our project was prompt, friendly, and clearly competent with his approach to his work. The project was completed promptly, with no fuss, and with no disruption to our house use. The carpenter cleaned up his project area each and every day, leaving our house clean and tidy. He was also very informative about the use and care of our new windows and doors and the end of his installation. I would highly recommend Johnson Home Improvement to other folks interested in a cost effective, high quality job for their home.

From start to finish Johnson Home Improvement did an excellent job replacing our windows. Glenn, the owner came out and gave the estimate in a timely manner and explained exactly how the replacement process would work. A few weeks later, one of their window installers came out and replaced the two windows we needed. The windows are beautiful and were perfectly installed. There was no mess left at all and Johnson color matched the existing trim on our home just right. We will soon be using Johnson again to replace a sliding door that needs replacement. Great company to work with.
