They removed old nasty windows and installed nice new Milgard. My main concern was that the interior trim and walls remain the same and they were able to that. The price listed on this review was before rebates, after rebates about $8300.00

We found Johnson Home Improvement through Yelp and contacted them based on the number of positive reviews. This was their busy season and we had to schedule an estimate about a week in advance but we understood that summer is busy season. The estimator is also the owner of the company and we found him to be informative and pleasant. He came on a Wednesday and explained that because they were so busy we would not see the estimate until Friday or at the latest Monday. By the end of the day Monday we had not seen the estimate and on Tuesday we called several times without answer and then emailed the company. We received a return email from a receptionist (who was very pleasant each time we interacted) informing us that we would receive an estimate later in the day which we did. The estimate was more than the two we had received before it, but was still in line with what we expected the project could cost. Our plan was to obtain 1-2 more estimates (5-8 total) compare them carefully and make our choice. We wrote back to the owner and explained that estimates we had already received were lower and that one company agreed to some trim work that was not covered in the Johnson estimate. We sent a copy of the other estimate to show that our claim was accurate. The owner/estimator wrote back and informed us that once they write an estimate they do not negotiate prices and we respected his position. We asked if they would consider including the small amount of additional trim work specified in the other estimate and they agreed. At this point all signs pointed to using Johnson Home Improvement- good reviews, thus far positive experiences with owner and price that was slightly higher than others but close enough that we were satisfied. The next day I emailed the company back informing them of the status of our project- that we had one more estimate that had been scheduled in advance and that afterwards we would make our selection. We understand that estimates and communication take time and we wanted the company to know where we stood. The next morning we received an email from the owner which said “When I agreed to your request regarding the additional work at my expense, I assumed we were moving forward with your window project. Considering that is not the case, I am going to withdraw my proposal at this time.” Quite confused, I called the company (no answer) and followed up with an email which stated, “We have attempted, in each case with good intentions to clarify the price and scope of the window project estimates provided by you and each contractor. When spending over 10,000 dollars, it makes sense to know precisely what each company offers and what they don’t offer so we can make the best choice… I am having trouble understanding how [asking about additional trim work] indicated to you that we had selected Johnson for our project and I apologize if the confusion was on my end. After we received the final estimate we planned to make our selection… Does this mean that Johnson is not interested in this project?” I followed up with another phone message a day later but never heard back from anyone at Johnson Home Improvement. There are a lot of positive reviews for this company online and in general we really try to give folks the benefit of the doubt, but our experience with Johnson Home Improvement was confusing and in the end, disappointing. Communication is challenging- we made 8-10 calls over the course of 2 weeks and only had a person answer once. Emails were not answered promptly (although except for the last one, they were answered). After the “withdraw my proposal” email, and subsequent misunderstanding, we did not have any calls or emails returned. We communicated honestly and in good faith and it just feels like it should not be this hard to spend over 10,000 dollars.

These people are the best! This job was a pleasure from start to finish. Glenn, the owner, was very knowledgeable, thoughtful, and flexible in informing me of the options from Milgard and in helping me sort out what made sense. Laura, the office manager, somehow coped with the outrageously rainy Oregon winter and spring to get me scheduled at a time where we actually had almost a week of dry, sunny weather. The champion, in my opinion, was Darrell, the installer who singlehandedly managed the entire project. In my 50+ years of adulthood, I haven't met a more knowledgeable, reliable, honest, thoughtful, or dedicated craftsman. He was exceptional at fully protecting the property, the new windows, and himself in inclement weather--although he never let it stop him--and he was meticulous in his work. At the end of each work day, the house looked as if there had been no construction activity at all. He was very thoughtful in protecting the yard foliage, he tolerated my many squirrel friends who pestered him for peanuts, and he worked around my work schedule in my home office. His workmanship was unfailingly excellent, and he went above and beyond to ensure that I was happy with the installation. In my opinion, Milgard windows, with their lifetime guarantee, are the best, and Glenn Johnson and his crew are perfectly matched to that high standard. I couldn't recommend them more highly.

We bought a 1929 house, which needs some work. Two original casement windows leaked air and dirt. Two upper story windows had been replaced with double hung windows at some point, but were also leaky, whistling on windy days. These four windows were assessed by three companies. Johnson's was the most professional evaluation. Glenn was considerate of the house's style , as well as cost and maintenance issues, and made suggestions, and explained why. Due to my impression, I chose to go with the cheapest estimate, which was Johnson Home Improvement. I am glad that I did. The windows are installed, and look great, and work just fine. The men who installed the windows were courteous and careful, and did a great job of cleaning up. I will hire these people again as more windows will need to be replaced over the next few years.

Positive window replacement except for one large window - very difficult. Other companies did not want to do. Jeff & crew completed and it was perfect. They were on time, cleaned up great.

We could not be more pleased with the service & products provided by Johnson Home Improvement. From the initial bid & measurements to complete removal of old windows & installation of the new ones, they were fantastic. The windows we had replaced were single pane, aluminum frame and original to the house when it was built in 1957. They did an excellent job including new interior & exterior trim & paint as needed. In addition, they clearly explained what each step entailed along the way. Being 34 weeks pregnant with a toddler (and a big dog) at home, I really appreciated knowing exactly what to expect each day. Nothing but pleasant, professional, and without complaint for these guys. Would absolutely recommend them to anyone!

This was the second set of windows Johnson Home Improvement has completed replacement for me. This time was as impeccable as the last from top to bottom, a very professional job.

I wish I could give them an A+++ on this job. To start with Glen was amazing, patient and it is obvious his priority is customer satisfaction and quality work, not making the most money. Glen came out several times to make sure I had the right windows for the job and that the job was done right. Jeff was kind and detailed in his work. He always had a great attitude and wanted to make sure the work was to my satisfaction. I would recommend this company to all my friends and neighbors. I will use them again if I need any doors changed out. This is the only project on my house that went well and I believe it was their attention to details.

They did a great job! Cleaned up all the scraps and paint chips. Kept us updated on the progress. When they painted the trim, they took the time to mask the area off so no paint mistakes.

Several of our second story vinyl windows were bowed. They are about 20 years old and otherwise in good condition. We received 4 difference bids for this work. The 3 other bids all recommended a complete replacement of the 11 windows. The owner of Johnson Home Improvement was the only one who recognized the flaw this particular window had and suggested installing new vent sashes with cam locks. These vent sashes were significantly stronger than the ones that came with the original windows. His team installed these new parts and the windows look like new. It has been 6 months since the windows were repaired and the quality of the work remains the same. We really appreciate the simple solution provided by Johnson Home Improvement because it saved us significant amount of money.

This company was great to work with. I would say the best contractor I?ve worked with in the Portland area. Glenn Johnson came out to price the job. He was really nice and fair . He made great recommendations - things the other two bidding on the job did not consider. He recommended areas where I could cut cost and where it made sense to upgrade. The upgrades ended up saving me money because I get a better rebate from the Energy Trust. Jeff and Levi a wonderful father/son team did the work. Jeff is a master carpenter ? he enlarged the openings by 1 foot in height for two of my bedrooms. I am so glad I did that ? it looks amazing!! More light and gives my house a new house feel. Jeff and Levi were extremely professional, very competent, and pleasant to have around. They arrived on time every day and worked really hard. They were very respectful of my property and very neat. People you can trust in your home. They worked during the heatwave we were having ? but didn?t let it slow the job down. Everyone I interacted with at Johnson Home Improvement was great. Glenn has had people working for him for a long time (Jeff @20 years) , (Arlene office manager @10 years. He speaks very highly of his employees and now I know why. They know their stuff. Every single one of them great to work with. I paid the balance at the completion of the job and immediately ? within 2 days ? received a package that contained the Energy Trust application filled out and all the supporting paperwork. All I needed to do was sign and send in. This company is a pleasure to work with. If you are thinking of replacing your windows and glass doors ? I highly recommend them. I interviewed 3 companies and went with them and I?m glad I did.

We had a previous experience with Johnson Home Improvement and were very satisfied with the quality of their work. This project was also completed with the same high attention to detail. We are very pleased with their professional quality work. Peter is especially good to work with.

This could possibly be the best company that I have ever had the pleasure to work with. Glenn Johnson came to my home to do the measurements, make suggestions to help save money and provide me with an estimate. I had complete confidence in this man. And the pricing was extremely competitive. Once I accepted their bid, Jeff and Levi (wonderful father/son team) came to do the installation. They made sure that they completed a room each day they were here. And when they were done, they washed all of the windows, vacuumed, and totally cleaned up the garage, which was used as their working station. They were so pleasant to have around the house - respectful, cheerful and so competent. And these Milgard windows are amazing! My house is very old and it was a struggle just to open and close the old windows. These windows are beautiful and they are so easy to open and close. My energy bills are even lower! I would highly recommend this company if you are in the market to replace your windows.

He is great and they are super. He came out and measured not once, not twice, but three times. We only had one issue and they came right back out. Prices were much better than other companies I contacted

I called this company for an estimate on having 2 living room windows replaced. I wanted to go with larger windows. Glen came out and was on time and very professional. He was very forthright about the cost of doing this: he told me that we would need both permits and drawings submitted, plus the cost of having all the construction and siding repair and dry wall repair. It was VERY helpful to have this honest information! One of the windows was stuck and I was unable to open it. Glen actually pulled out the top half of the window while we were talking, put back the offending piece ( a balancer?) and replaced the window, and voila, it works! He told me that they are Milgard windows and in fact still under warranty, and don't need to be replaced. I can't say enough about the quality of this company, and I would hire them in a heartbeat, if it turned out that I did need new windows. He also gave me helpful advice regarding our French doors. If there was a grade above "A", I would give them that.

They did a pretty good job, and were very helpful. They were also flexible with coming up for a time to complete the work. Their quality of work is really good, and I would recommend them to anyone.

Installers were great. They were punctual, neat, professional & gave detailed explanations to any questions. Highly recommend this company. Office staff is very helpful.

Purchased a new (to us) house that had a number of original windows from the 50s. Had the standard few companies out to do quotes and talk about options. One of my prime concerns was minimizing sound transmission facing the front street. Every other company that came out and quoted immediately suggested triple pane. Every piece of research I did including information straight from window manufacturers suggested thicker glass on double panes was a superior sound break compared to triple pane glass. When I asked Glenn he was the only one that proposed double pane over triple pane. From the time Glenn (the owner) came out and did a walk around and measure to prepare there quote I was thoroughly impressed. He didn't give me any pressured sales tactics - he asked me for my business and walked through why he was a good option without speaking ill of any competitors or promising things he couldn't deliver. Their price point came back right in line (on the low side) of all of my options and their quote included highend Milgard Tuscany windows vs less known options from other companies - a clear value proposition winner. Glenn returned again to confirm his window measurements after we agreed to have them perform the work - he thoroughly walked through options like casing sizing (bullnose vs rounded) and explained how a few things would come out because of some existing window separations. Through the whole process he was always easy to talk to, helpful and beyond friendly. We waited a bit for windows and an install time. Their office manager was always easily reached and happy to answer scheduling questions. An earlier install time came up and she called & emailed me to see if it would work - it was perfect timing. Install day finally comes (only six paragraphs later!) and two friendly gentleman arrive at 9am and got to work. I left for work and when I returned about 5PM I couldn't tell they had been there - absolutely spotless inside and out from the windows they had replaced - all that was left were beautiful new windows - WOW! What an improvement! The next day they returned and installed the last two larger windows (one was 11.5ft across and with the thick glass a total monster) - these are the two that Glenn had explained about some edges showing from a divider being removed - results were better than he had described and the windows look like they've always been there - beyond flawless installation. Through the whole process there was strong communication - something I really appreciate from a service provider. The small things really added up too - we didn't just get an envelope with a quote from them - we received a packet with references, information about the proposed windows, their warranty, etc. After completion we received another packet with warranty information, a completed EnergyTrust rebate mailer and care and cleaning instructions. These folks are the rare ones that under promise and over deliver in every way. I can't say enough good things about them or recommend them enough. When I need windows again they will be the only number I call.

Glenn Johnson, the owner, came out to do the measuring and price quote in August. We came to find out that he does that for every project. He was knowledgeable about Milgard Windows, which is what we chose before getting estimates. Glenn was very straightforward. I did not feel pressured to purchase something I didn't want. After the visit, they were prompt in submitting their bid. We were happy with the price, which was much more reasonable than the others. Their schedule was so booked that we had to wait until September for installation. They sent one man to do the job who was friendly, skilled, and efficient. We are pleased with the windows and can finally let fresh air into our rec room. Our other windows were the drafty originals and stuck shut.
