My experience was great! There were two guys here doing the work and they were here for 10 hour to get the work done. They were super nice and they cleaned up well after themselves. They did not try to upsell me and I was the one that decided to do additional service. There was no hard sell.
Description of Work: I purchased a deal for $249 for gutter and roof maintenance package with algae treatment. They went ahead and did a whole roof clean to remove and treat moss so I paid additional. They cleaned my pool house roof as well.

The service turned out horribly. They were supposed to do minor repairs and give us an estimate on any other services for the roof. He suggested a new roof or a short term solution. They did not do any minor repairs and never followed up with the estimate. They called me by accident regarding the estimate and they still never followed up once I asked about it. One technician came out. He basically just told what we already knew about the roof. He did not do what he was supposed to and was not prepared for the job. I had no problem contacting the company or scheduling them out.

The inspector came out to inspect the roof and told me my options. I decided to go with the VIP package that included pressure wash. Was told I would get a call back but didn't call a call for about two weeks. I had to call him myself to schedule a date for the work. The inspector told me he didn't have my number but I gave it to them when I scheduled the inspection. On the scheduled work date, they were 40 minutes or so past the time frame that they gave me. There was no call to update my on my they are late. I had to call them twice. The workers came and told me they were in a meeting. If you know you're going to be in a meeting, at least call the customer to let them know you might be late. They estimated that the work would take about 4 hours so I went to work and told them to call me when they were done. Few hours past estimated time and didn't get any call. Had to call the workers and was told they were done couple hours ago. After receiving my invoice, I called in to pay but the person that handles it was out to lunch so I left my number for a call back. Two weeks goes by and still no call. Had to call them back myself and leave my credit card info for them to process the payment. Overall, the quality of the work is good. The thing they need to improve on is communication between their departments and with customers.

They recommended the most expensive option (pressure wash the roof) but I chose the most gentle option (air blowing with moss treatment). The service was performed on a pretty heavy rainy day and I was told the rain would activate the treatment (after I asked the workers when they took my check). I have pretty big roof but they didn't spend much time on it. It made me wonder if they really treated the whole roof. Ever since their treatment, I can still see green shiny moss exactly where they were on my roof. Their treatment did not do a thing. I finally called and asked them to come and take a look. It took them two days to respond after I called the 2nd time. They claimed their workers did what they were supposed to do and then advice me to purchase their most expensive option again. When I questioned the practice of pressure washing, this time they said the pressure wash is with minor pressure.

This was a promotional service offered and it took this company over two months to actually do the work. Originally they said that they would be including the detached garage, however, I had to call a second time and show proof that they had included it for them to return a second time to do a very minimum job for the garage. In my opinion, they oversold the "special" and were not able to perform. This experience has made me reluctant to purchase vouchers offered by Angies' list. Also, I found out that the "special" I purchased was actually more expensive than a different special offered by the same company for the same work.

We signed the contract April 16, 2014 and were told by the salesman/representative the work would take four days. The work was completed on August 8th, 2014 pending a walk-though. We were told a scheduler would contact us on the 17th or 18th a day or two after signing the contract. We heard from no one until I called the following week to inquire about a beginning date and was told Homemasters was backed up and didn't have a starting time for us. Work did finally begin on May 12th but once the work began there were problems when workers were smoking on the roof and either leaving used cigarettes on the roof that soon blew off into the fish pond or were tossed in to the neighbor's yard. A tool was dropped through one of the skylight openings and cracked a tile. Workers often didn't show up when they said they would or not at all and we never had any communication from the scheduler or Homemasters regarding this problem. At approximately six to eight weeks into the job I finally called the salesman/rep and left a message that we just couldn't get any information from anyone with respect to schedules. He, apparently, contacted the Asst. Manager who then stayed in contact with us but that didn't preclude more problems. Two workers showed up to remove the old upper deck and believed that consisted of just removing pallets when, in fact, they were supposed to be removing the old deck covering underneath. While awaiting confirmation from the office one "taped" off the cab of the truck and began jumping on the hood. I can't even fathom what he was doing other than goofing off and actually wondered if he was on something because his behavior was so bizarre. Once getting confirmation they were to begin tearing off the roof the two did so but only got a section removed. Nothing was put on to cover the deck which is above the living room. A storm passed through; we had water running down the canister lights, walls and ceiling in the living area. I called Homemasters and the answering service contacted Hector who came here at 10:00 at night to put down a tarp. It took him two hours of work. Homemasters now had interior repair work to deal with. In the interim, roof work was nearly completed but we had to wait for one of the skylights to either be repaired or reordered when it was damaged. One section of gutter was completely missed so another delay waiting for those people to be available. And, the fascia between the deck siding and the new flooring needed to be painted. There was reluctance on Homemasters part to do that but it was completely unfinished and so they conceded to doing the work for which we provided the paint. The upper deck didn't drain properly so more work had to be done to correct that problem. And, we have drain holes in three corners of the roof and upper deck that are now covered by free-standing grates which are of concern with respect to winds blowing them around and letting debris in or, worse blowing them entirely off the house. And there's one area that has been left unpainted from either removing the roof and/or gutters. The interior work was completed satisfactorily with us providing the paints for ceiling, wall and woodwork. I spoke with the salesman/rep today (Aug. 13) who wanted to schedule the final walk-through and I told him the earliest we could do it was Aug. 26th. He objected strenuously saying it wasn't right that Homemasters had completed the work and should be paid the remaining half immediately. We've had travel plans for months that wouldn't have interfered with this final act if Homemasters had done their job on time and without additional problems for which they were responsible.
Description of Work: Tore off old roof, upper deck and removed skylights. Then placed new roof, new upper deck and new skylights. Also power-washed and clear-coated a lower deck.

First someone came out to survey the work. When the workers actually came to do the job, they turned out to be kids who spent no more than 30 minutes on the roof. They explained that they had treated the mossy sections with a liquid that would kill the moss, and that the moss would slide off the roof in the first rain. We did see some moss on the ground and in the driveway later, but I would not call this a thorough or professional roof-cleaning. This was an Angie's List special, and although the price was great ($250) it sure turned out to be no bargain. I was very disappointed in both the provider and in Angie's List. I'm much less inclined to go for Angie's List specials in the future.

I went into the office and looked at the product itself to see how the covers are installed. The office wasn?t very good at explaining the product or showing demos. The office guys weren?t so helpful. I was in great doubt of the gutter cover but it worked so well during the thunderstorm, it was a very impressive product! I only had Homemasters install the covers on the front part of the house, but I am going to have them put the cover on the whole gutter system. The guy I worked with was really excellent. He was very experienced and knew a lot about it. He was great to work with.

Ultimately it turned out ok. The level of service was uneven. The person who initially came out was wonderful and very informative. It took them a lot time to get here. The estimate included cleaning my garage roof and gutters. Initially they only cleaned the house gutters. It took them a long time to come back to clean garage. They left equipment here. They sent a bill and I already paid before they sent the bill. Follow through was slow. They didn’t perform the service as contracted. I had to spend time and effort following up.

I set up a meeting for an estimate, which was scheduled right away. I paid a 50% deposit that day and was assured that I would be contacted soon to schedule the cleaning. However, the company didn't call me for over a week. They did call me yesterday, saying there was a last-minute cancellation for today. The scheduler was unaware of the addition of the power washing of the house, but it was certainly on the contract that I signed. I had to prompt him with questions about what to do to prepare for the cleaning, like what needed to be moved and how far away, which he should have on a check-list when contacting people for their appointments. The cleaners arrived on time and set to work. I arrived back home about 1.5 hours after they had begun. I could see that progress had been made, although only one man was working; the other was checking his phone while up on my roof. Shortly thereafter, they took an extended break, and then I believe they worked until the roof was done before breaking for lunch. There was a LOT of debris - the roof had not been cleaned in a few years, and never power-washed - and it extended out in all directions by over 10 feet. The second worker used a blower and broom to clean up after the roof was done. I could hear when they started power-washing the house, and it sounded very methodical. I was unconcerned until I heard water dripping in my living room and went to check it out. The front window sill was covered with water, which was still coming in, the curtains were wet, and there were puddles forming on the floor. I went to the door to let them know that water was coming in, and was met with a shrug. I shut the door, ran for towels, and the man went back to what he was doing. No more windows on that side of the house. With the towels in place, I realized I had better check the other windows, and sure enough, there was water on every sill upstairs and down, and if the curtains were down (as opposed to being pulled to the sides) they were damp at the sill level as if they had been sprayed. Thankfully, it wasn't as much water as in the living room, and I was grateful that the curtains were in place in my office, as my computer sits directly in front of the window. The power-washer guy managed to work water through my sliding glass door, the back door of the garage, under the front door and laundry room door, and even under the garage door. A little water I suppose may be expected, but I had had it by then, and it felt like he had simply been very careless. Maybe he was just being thorough. He blamed the water in the living room on two small cracks in the siding that are about 12 inches long, but it was much more water than that, and it doesn't explain how water came in through all the other windows too. In discussing this with the manager, who also blamed my windows before offering an apology or even commiserating and actually questioned whether they were really closed, I did admit that some of the windows were installed without the flanges and so maybe that contributed to the issue. But that doesn't explain the rest of the windows and doors, especially the sliding glass door. When the man was here for the estimate, he told me that I did not need to be home while the work was being done, but I am so glad I was, otherwise there would be a damage claim to be negotiated. To their credit, the workers did a very good job of cleaning up afterwards, and the house looks nice. The patio and driveway are spic-and-span. My organic vegetable garden now has some grit in it from the roof, and if I had known that debris would fall that far, I would have covered the beds. That could also be on the check list for the scheduler: cover anything you can't move within 15 feet of the house. I have mixed feelings writing this report, and I would be cautious in recommending this company without a big explanation. Overall, the finished work is very, very good. With more training, I am sure these cleaners could avoid driving water through windows and doors, and avoid responding to someone's urgent information with indifference. I felt that the service was somewhat over-priced to begin with, although they did knock off a couple hundred dollars from the estimate without blinking. I did check a few other companies on Angie's List for pricing and they were pretty much at the going rate. The work was done thoroughly, although I could have done without all the water inside, but there is no lasting damage that I can see (fingers crossed). The estimate was timely, but scheduling the work was not. Over all, as I said, the work quality was very good, with the exception of the now-redundant water issues. The responsiveness and professionalism was C- for the guy who shrugged (an A for the roof and an A for the overall appearance of the house, but a big F for the shrug), and B for the manager who called me back pretty darned quickly, but who also wasn't quick enough to apologize for what happened. To her credit, Rebecca - who answered the phone this afternoon when I called - immediately apologized, empathized and offered claims adjusting. Her reaction was very much appreciated, even though a claim will not be necessary. I hope. Rebecca receives an A overall.

Our large composite roof was a mess. Moss was everywhere and it was thick. Jose and Eli were thorough, courteous, and did an excellent clean up job. The roof looks great now. ***The hose for the cleaning equipment pulled a ceramic planted pot over and it broke and spilled. The crew cleaned it up, mended the pot with some duct tape and explained to me what happened. They were honest and upfront about it and the estimated replacement cost came out of the final invoice. The adjustment was more than fair. These guys are a class act.

The bid process went very smoothly. We told Doug that we wanted to replace the gutters and do some handyman work around the house before we painted. Doug said his company painted too but that the guy who does this was too busy. He was going to recommend another guy. He said that guy would call us back within a week. When we finally accepted the bid for the gutters and handyman work a week later, we reminded Doug that the painter guy had yet to call us. He told us that he was going to get in touch with him right after he hung up the phone. Needless to say, we never heard from the painter guy so we started interviewing other companies for the paint job. We took a check for 1/2 the amount to Homemasters on a Friday. They had time available to start the next Thursday. Since my husband and I are both retired, we wanted to be home when they did the work so we made arrangements to be at home on Thursday. We were totally surprised when both crews drove up around noon on Tuesday -- two days before the scheduled date. Luckily we were home to communicate some of the details of the job that were not communicated from Doug to the crews. Tony and his crew did the trim work around the garage door. I must say I was impressed as he solved a problem with bowing boards that previous contractors refused to touch. Great job Tony !! We explained to the gutter crew the problem we had with water accumulating in the gutters because they were tipped to one side from the house settling. The gutter guys did a great job leveling the gutters so they drained properly. Tony's crew was also responsible for replacing two barge boards. They took one barge to the shop so they could cut it to size and prime it before installing. A week later they came and installed one barge board but not the other. So, we called Doug to tell him the problem. But after three messages and no return phone call, we drove to Homemasters and talked with Jerry. Jerry was able to schedule Tony to come back to replace the second barge board the following week. We appreciate Jerry's willingness to help speed up this process so the painters could begin their work. Overall, the work Homemasters did was good with a few small bumps. In any job, we anticipate there would be some problems but it gets really annoying when calls are never returned.

Our existing gutters were rusted through and needed to be completely replaced. We contacted three companies for estimates. Homemasters quoted $1700 for total replacement of all gutters, which was the middle of the three bids we solicited. We went with them because they promised quality materials and punctual work, but did not spend two hours trying to sell us on a particular gutter system (as one different company did.) Their representative came out at the agreed-upon time and described the materials they would use. We asked about gutter guards to keep out debris. Their sales rep did not try to sell us an expensive product that we didn't need. He did explain what systems were good and bad for our particular house. We had them install new gutters and downspouts on the house and garage. We also had them install some new fascia boards to replace the water-damaged boards that were barely holding on the old gutters. It's been several months and the gutters still look good. We are satisfied with the quality. There were some minor difficulties with communication. I had asked about replacing a water-damaged soffit board, and the sales rep said this could be done. I was under the impression that this was part of what I'd ordered, but the workers who installed the gutters didn't have it on their work order. However, I wasn't charged for it either. Overall, a pretty positive experience. I would use them in the future.

The service went very well. They did an excellent job. I paid an additional fee to have them replace roof jacks and gutter flashing. I thought their pricing was reasonable. They were also very professional.
Description of Work: I purchased a deal for Roof Cleaning, Maintenance and More.

They did the roof and we are scheduled for a final walk through today. I had to pay a little extra for the roof since my roof is a little bigger than what the Big Deal allowed for. The workers did a great job! They got it done in a couple of days. There were a few nails and debris in bushes left behind. They did clean the gutters out which was nice. I would consider hiring them again, but I would get other estimates.
Description of Work: I purcahsed a $4,899 Big Deal for a New Architectural Roof with a Lifetime Warranty.

The salesman said 3 maybe 4 days, but it took 8 days as it went over a weekend although they did work on Saturday. They were a great work team as they made makeshift shelters over bushes and my gardens, and cleaned up every day after their work. The team was very kind and professional and really wanted to know how I felt about all the details. I would recommend them.
Description of Work: We had the original wood shingle roof replaced with a composition roof due to safety issues with potential fire. We had another 1,000 sq.ft of roof according to Homemasters from their 2,000 sq.ft. "deal", and we upgraded to a Presidential product, plus we had no plywood membrane as the roof was original from 1979, so the costs went up, expectedly.

We talked to four roofing companies when we started thinking about putting a new roof on our home. When we made our decision it was based on the discussion we had with the representative, Phil Clark. Phil was the only person who talked to us about ventilation. This was important to us as our home always runs hot and we felt there was a problem with how the structure was vented. We had waited about 6 months from the time of the bid to when we decided to have the job done. When I called Phil, he told me he was with a different company now, HomeMasters. Phil told me the company he had been with previously had decided to get out of the roofing part of construction. He also told me he had brought his crew with him to HomeMasters. I called the old company and talked with one of the owners. She confirmed that her company had decided to get out of the roofing business and gave Phil a very complimentary recommendation. I had some reservations about going with HomeMasters due to some poor ratings regarding a Roof Cleaning Groupon they had done a while ago. I didn't see any poor ratings regarding putting on a new roof though and decided to go with my gut and hire HomeMasters, Phil, and his crew. I have spent a lot of time on my roof these past 20 years and felt I had some plywood problems. I told Phil about them and he said he thought we would only need a handful of new sheets, but the crew would keep me updated. After talking with Phil and doing some online research, we decided to add Eave and Roof Vents to a full tear-off and re-shingle. I also upgraded the shingle to the CertainTeed Landmark Pro and went with Diamond Deck instead of felt (same price). The morning the crew was to start, they delivered a drop box in my driveway as agreed. Shortly thereafter the crew showed up led by the foreman Eugenio. They laid out tarps and covered my shrubs to catch debris. They had half the roof stripped by noon and showed me pictures of my plywood. As I had suspected, I had a major problem with de-lamination and disintegration of the plywood. None of it would even hold a nail. This came as no surprise to me, but I had them pull up some of the other side of the ridge and they found it to be worse yet. This meant the addition of 53 sheets of plywood needed to be installed at an additional cost of about $2500. I have a vaulted ceiling on one side of my home, and there was no space between the insulation and the plywood which I feel is the leading cause of my plywood issue. I had the crew install Styrofoam baffles between the insulation and the plywood to enable better ventilation (+$800). They also found I had only 6 inches of insulation in my attic space on the other side of my ridge and it was installed between the rafters against the plywood instead of between the ceiling joists. I had them drop the insulation down to the joists and they added another 10 inches of insulation (+350). They found my bathroom exhaust fan was not vented, so they vented it for me (no charge). The plywood over my garage was fine, but there was no exhaust vent, so I picked up a screened louvered vent at HD and installed it myself in about an hour. The drop box was picked up the next morning. The entire job took 3 days and they did a great job cleaning up. The crew worked hard and efficiently. I've been up in my attic crawl space and the insulation looks great. The day they finished, a coupon came out for $500 off a new roof; HomeMasters readily took $500 of my final price. In the end, I paid $3000 more than I anticipated, but I knew I had ventilation and plywood problems so I don't feel I was getting upsold. I am very happy with the end result and feel confident that I will never have to buy another roof for this home while I own it. I highly recommend Phil Clark's crew at HomeMasters.
Description of Work: *Note this review is for a NEW ROOF replacement, NOT GUTTER CLEANING. Full tear-off of 2 layers asphalt shingles. Replaced 53 sheets of plywood. Installed styrofoam baffles between rafters in vaulted ceiling because there was no space between insulation and plywood. Relocated old insulation in attic space that was installed incorrectly by original home builder. Added 10 inches new insulation in attic space to bring to 16 inch total thickness. Installed Certainteed eave ventilation (intake). Installed Certainteed roof ridge ventilation (exhaust). Installed Diamond Deck fabric underlayment. Installed Certainteed Landmark Pro Architectual Shingles Vented (at no charge) bathroom exhaust fan that was not properly vented. Thorough clean-up of all debris.
