Able Heating & Cooling LLC

Our TRANE furnace was 25 years old and had a cracked heat exchanger and some rusted burners and needed replacing. We had bids from several companies and decided on Able Heating & Cooling. Kelly, the owner of Able Heating and Cooling, personally came out and gave us a bid on a new TRANE high efficiency furnace. He was fantastic to work with. He fully outlined and explained exactly what we needed, provided several options and didn't try to over sell us. He explained that Able Heating & Cooling is a customer service oriented company and how important it was that their customers happy. We did not have to put any money down for the furnace or installation and we were to use the furnace for several weeks. They wanted us 100% satisfied with the furnace and the installation, before they would collect payment. Kelly also got us rebates from TRANE and residential tax credits for our income tax. Able Heating & Cooling always called to confirm any appointments and then arrived on time. Their communication was excellent. Installation was performed as scheduled. There were a couple of minor cosmetic issues from the installation that we told Kelly about several days after the furnace was installed. Kelly sent his installation team back out and they took care of the cosmetic issues. Kelly personally came back out to make the final inspection. We are 100% pleased with our new furnace and the outstanding customer service we've received. We will definitely use Able Heating and Cooling again when we need any type of HVAC services. ps. Several months later, we had a skunk sneak into our garage, and you guessed it. It sprayed close to our furnace. Uggh! We called Able Heating & Cooling to ask about what we could do since the entire house smelled so bad. They were amazing! They came out the very same day and installed an Air Scrubber unit. Not only did it help with getting rid of the skunk smell much sooner, it's also helping eliminate other airborne pollutants.

He did a great job. He was so punctual and he got it done. He spent a lot of time trying to get it in and so I would give him a very high grade. I would absolutely use him again. He had to work quite a bit to get the fan in place and he was very patient with it. He probably had to spend a little more time than he needed to but he did get it done. He was very good. This was my first experience with them and I would come back to them again.

They are an outstanding company and did an outstanding job. I got different bids from different people, and I choose them mainly because of the write up's they got on Angie's List. They came out and did a one year free check up on it. They replaced an item that I didn't know was faulty.

I was able to get an appointment really quickly which was wonderful since the heat was off. The office staff was knowledgable and kind. Our service tech Armando, showed up on time and worked really hard for us. He did a good job explaining the problem and addressing my concerns. Having the furnace quit working is like getting a speeding ticket... you think, oh no, I can't afford this... I don't have time for this..., but I have no choice, I gotta take of this. Able made the whole process about as painless as it possibly could have been. Thanks so much!

Went well. I was able to select a high efficiency gas furnace in my budget. I wasn't pressured into more options and a more expensive unit and they worked with me on the price. The quality of the install was first class with great attention to detail. I didn't have to pay anything until after a week of the install and use to make sure I was happy with how everything was working. The size of the furnace for our house seems perfect and is keeping us warm with a lower gas bill.

They were very friendly and easy to work with. I paid for $88 for my inspection and $350 for my drain pan to be replaced. I was happy with them.

Made several calls, but Able was able (npi) to work us into the schedule in the morning. A good thing, as the interior temperature was already down to 50 degrees. Scheduler was very helpful and courteous - made suggestions as to easy fixes we could try ourselves in the meantime. Was very clear about what to expect for costs as well. We were called shortly after that to let us know that Nick would be arriving - which he did right on schedule. He diagnosed the problem, replaced the failed part, and discussed briefly a couple of options to consider in working with an older furnace like ours. He was efficient, professional and a nice man to boot. Highly recommended. Here's hoping for a nice Holiday bonus for Nick :)

It went really well. I actually purchased the wrong deal on Angies List for my oil furnace, and everyone at the office was very cooperative in helping me get that deal refunded and switched over to what I needed. The technician showed up on time, worked very quickly, was professional, left the place clean and spotless. I will definitely use again!

I called Able Heating & Cooling LLC on a Friday evening and someone picked up right away. I let them know the issue and they said they could have someone over in 30 minutes to fix our furnace! I was so happy because we really didn't want to spend the weekend shivering. Kelly arrived and was able diagnose that we needed a new switch board. Luckily he had one with him that would work for our model. We appreciated his friendliness, professionalism and quality of work. He even took the time to answer all our questions and provide us with recommendations on how to make everything run more efficiently. The price was about what we would have to pay to get a new switch board and we used Angie's service call coupon to help with the overall cost. We would definitely have Kelly back again for any heating issues we may have in the future!

Armando is very customer friendly and knows what he is doing. I will Ask for him again and highly recommend this person and this company.

The "tune-up" was completed on time, on budget. I elected to perform the repair work myself to reduce costs.

My husband and I are in the process of renovating a house, and based on Angie's List reviews, I called Able to get a quote on a new HVAC system and new/modified duct work. My husband and I arranged to take off work early on 7/8/16 to meet with Greg Grimshaw, Able's Sales rep, to discuss the project. Greg was quite pleasant and spent over an hour discussing the project with us. He told us before leaving that, despite the warm weather, Able was not very booked with projects at that time. He anticipated being able to run the load calculations and to get us a proposal the following week; he told us that they were booked about 2 weeks out for installations. The following Tuesday evening I scanned and forwarded houseplans to Greg so that he could calculate the proposed HVAC system, as we'd agreed. I confirmed with his office at the end of the week that the plans had been received. I didn't receive a proposal that week, as he'd told me I would, but since the weather had turned hot and I expected that he was busy, I gave him an additional 2 weeks before following up with him (end of July). At that time he told me that he was halfway through the calculations and that he would have the bid to me within a couple of days. Two weeks later I still had not received the quote so I called the office and spoke to Michael, who told me he'd follow up on the proposal. Two weeks later (end of August) I still had not heard anything so I called again and spoke with the office manager. I explained to her that we had read wonderful reviews about Able, and had had a good meeting with Greg, so we had really wanted to get an estimate from them, but still didn't have a proposal after almost two months. I told her that I was trying to reach the owner, Kelly, in order to find out the status of the quote. She assured me that she would follow up. A week later, on 9/7, two months after our initial appt, I received a phone call from Greg Grimshaw. He stated that he was sorry that he had "stringed us along", that Able "didn't have the personnel to do the duct work", that they were "short handed" and that he wanted to "just pass that message along" [that they wouldn't be bidding on the job]. My understanding from other HVAC companies is that there is a much higher profit margin on replacement of a/c and furnace units than there is on duct work, so I understand that a company, if busy, might choose not to bid on a project that entails duct work redesign (even if they state on their website that they provide that service, as Able does). I do not, however, understand a company being so unprofessional as to, in their words, "string a customer along" for two months.

Armando came out to our home on a very short notice to fix a leaking furnace that was flooding our garage. He was so helpful and did a fantastic job! I will use this company forever! thank you

One of the best service calls I have experienced. Call was on time. Service scope was adjusted to add the air conditioning service 30 minutes in advance of the service arrival .Extra service was priced very reasonably. The service rep. was very pleasant to work with. He explained the servicing. Good knowledge transfer. The booking office was very pleasant. I am glad I chose a local vendor. They are worthy of our support..

Fantastic! Armando is superb. He is incredibly knowledgeable, very friendly, honest, and professional. I had a lot of questions about my air conditioner and furnace (since I am new to running my home), and Armando thoroughly explained everything to me. He is exceptional! My system is now working much more efficiently and the output of air is far improved. He obviously has a very high work ethic and cares about the quality of his work and his clients. My parents used his services as well and they were extremely pleased.

Excellent! Able Heating and Cooling provided a quality service and was able to provide the technical expertise I expect from a contractor. The installation was performed in a professional and tidy manner and they provided supplemental training to make sure we clearly understood how to operate and program the thermostat. Able Heating and Cooling also performed a follow up visit to verify everything was performing as expected and answer any questions we may have had after using the system for a couple of weeks.

This is a long-overdue report on heating and air conditioning service and repair that Able has provided to us over the years. We are totally happy with their work. They are consistent in timely arrivals, cost-effective services (both regular servicing and the occasional repair), professional competence. clear explanations, courtesy and competitive pricing. We highly recommend Able.

My house is different. Our furnace was built in the attic crawlspace below the vaulted ceiling roof accessible only from a ladder and through a small trap door. Everything about the installation was non-standard and difficult because of the house design. Fortunately the owner of the company checked everything and was able to run the refrigerant lines up and over the scissor truss ceiling and down the outside of our two story house to the side. The competition to this company said it could not be done this way, but they were wrong! Able was slightly more expensive, by less than $200, but well worth the difference in cost. The Able crew was professional and answered all the questions, the inspection went okay afterwards with only a minor fix (that I didn't pay for). I would and have recommended them to friends.

it went very well. They told me that they would arrive around 9:00 AM and finish by 4:00 PM. Incredibly, they were finished by 4 PM exactly. They answered all of my questions and showed me how to work the thermostat controls. The owner, Kelly, came back after the county had approved the installation. He helped me program the thermostat whereby I can control the temperature settings by my computer, tablet and smart phone. Additionally, he explained how the system worked as opposed to the old heat pump and furnace. With this new system, you do not need to constantly changing the temperature settings. If you are thinking about installing a new heating and air-conditioning system, I highly recommend this company. With all of the credits that you will receive, it is not as expensive as you might think. Trane offers a 72 month financing at no interest. My monthly payment is about $167 per month. Great experience all around.

AC on our heat pump was no longer cooling; just blowing warm air. Someone from Able came at very short notice, and not only found and fixed the issue promptly, but also brought us outside to show us what had happened and to see the new parts they used.

The estimator was very professional. I got other estimates, but no one else gave me such detailed information about the product, including several choices as to what features I wanted to include. Also, no one else gave me a complete breakdown of the Energy Trust, state, and possible federal, tax credits that would be available on each system. It took me over two months to make up my mind, and when I called and said I wanted to use Able, they were great. Because it was so hot, they were, of course, at least 10 days out on installation, but they got to me about when they said they would. The work was done in a day, and the clean-up was perfect. They also installed a new thermostat that can be connected to my wireless system so I can control the thermostat from wherever I may be. After the system had been installed for several weeks, they came out to check that it was working properly for me, and to answer any questions I might have. They also did all the paperwork for the $850 Energy Trust credit so that I could sign that over to them and have that amount immediately taken off my bill. The system is great. It works beautifully and is absolutely silent, which is amazing in and of itself. Great system, great service.

Air conditioning installed as requested. Representative came out to our home to provide us with an estimate quickly, and was very responsive via email. Took approximately 3 weeks for air conditioning to be installed, which was on par with other companies in the area- when the weather was hot. Prices were reasonable, and our many questions were answered. Overall, however, we were not happy about certain unexpected aspects of the experience. Specifically- some holes (and extremely poor patch work) were cut into a abutting walls in our garage in order to route electrical wiring through the crawl space. The areas of the crawl space were accessible, and so we were not sure why these holes were cut, and how anyone with any amount of experience could do such a poor job patching up the holes. It is possible the electrician did this shoddy work- but Able ultimately contracted this work. We expressed our disappointment about this seemingly unnecessary eyesore to the Able representative, but it was not received with much concern, and we never heard any follow up. If I could upload a picture, I would. Our goal in getting an air conditioner was to cool rooms upstairs that easily reached 80 degrees during the summer. This was not achieved with our $5000 purchase, and when we expressed this to the Able representative, we were told that we would need to schedule a service appointment- for a cost that was not specified. We suspect there are other factors that should have been considered and reviewed before purchasing an air conditioner to help cool our house (such as adequate, functioning duct work), and this was not brought to our attention. We are now calling on a company to assess our duct work and to service our furnace, but we will not be calling on Able again.

Armando came out to give us an estimate to have central a/c installed in our new home. He was very thorough and explained everything he was looking for. He gave us a quote which was quite comparable to other quotes we received. Able scheduled us for install of central air 3 days later, which was unheard of in the summer heat wave Portland has been experiencing. The techs who installed the unit were kind, professional and competent. Everything, including permits, was included in the price and was completed in one day. Amazing unit that is high quality and so quiet you can't even hear it! I am so impressed!
