Able Heating & Cooling LLC

I got bids from 3 different companies. Able Heating & Cooling gave us the best bid originally. We wanted a high efficiency furnace, as you get the rebate and the tax credit for it. One of the companies that we had called didn?t have the product to do a high efficiency furnace for us. The other company originally gave us the bid, but not on the high efficiency furnace. Then, when they found out that they can get a high efficiency furnace, they gave us another bid which was lower than Able Heating & Cooling. I then spoke to Able Heating & Cooling to inform them about the bid that I got and then they gave us another bid. However, we not only got a better furnace from them, but they also installed it. They were very prompt and professional. They cleaned up after themselves. I really appreciated the fact that they were willing to rebid. They finally gave us a bid which was lower than the other bids. The quality of their work was fine and we are going to use their services again in the future.

Installation team showed up on time. Had the entire thing done in about two hours. It was a little more effort, but ran the new venting out of the side of the house rather than breaching the roof (I liked this option better). Also installed and programmed a new electronic thermostat. Took their shoes off when entering the house!

Again, I am very pleased with Able Heating and Cooling. On the first call, I was paid a visit by the new owner of the company, in person, to discuss the options to create a 'hybrid' heating situation. I wondered if the oil furnace they replaced only a few years earlier was compatible with adding a heat pump, and it turns out it was - great! Kelley gave me 5 different system options, ranging in price from $4000 to $6000, we chose one at $5500, and he sweetened the pot with an extended warranty. They won the bid. The install date was chosen, and the VERY experienced team of installers (all had done this type of work for at least 15 years) got to work. Everything went according to plan, and by mid-afternoon the system was installed, tested, working, and except for the unit outside and the new thermostat you would never know they were there. Pat headed up the team, explained all the new features, programmed the thermostat for us. Done deal.

The experience was excellent. We had three bids. I called Able on a Saturday and thought I would get an answering machine. I got a real person. They made an appointment for Sunday. I was impressed that he would come on a Sunday. We had some questions that had arisen from the first two bids regarding the proper sizing of the furnace. He was able to answer them.

Around 9:30 pm on a Friday night I noticed the temperature in the living room of my two story home was close to 80 degrees. It should have been around 74 degrees. After reading on-line of possible causes I turned off A/C unit for 30 minutes and turned it back on. I had no response from A/C unit. I called a local dealer for Carrier A/C units who offers emergency service at 10:15 pm. Saturday morning around 7:00 am I contacted the same local dealer again, and was informed pages were sent without response. Therefore, I contacted Able Heating & Cooling who came to my rescue. I contacted Able Heating because I used them for a repair call just the previous year for my furnace. I was happy with them last year and they proved to be reliable once again. Within 15 minutes my non-working A/C unit was back up and running.

I called on 4/28 9 A.M to inquire about cost and availability for just routine maintenance for my furnace and AC. The guy I talked to said he had an opening the next day, 4/29 at 11 A.M. He also told me that it would cost $129.95 to do the service for the AC and if I had both the AC and furnace done, it would be $169.95. So I signed up for it. The next day, I leave work at 10:30 to get home by 10:50 just in time for my appointment. Next thing I know, I have a message on my home phone from them, at 10:22 A.M, calling to confirm my appointment, and asked for me to call them back and make sure it is still on. So I call them back (this was around 10:55), figuring that they would still be on their way since I just made the appointment the day before, but the lady I talked to (Lori I think is her name) said she sent the technician over to another job because she did not hear back from me! She said she did not want to waste gas, and she had other people who had no heat in their house and mine was simply a furnace tune-up, basically making it sound like I was a very unimportant customer. I was of course livid, and explain to her that why would I cancel an appointment I made just a day earlier? And what kind of time window is that? Less than 30 minutes response time, or else your appointment is canceled?!? And on top of that, she calls less than 40 minutes before the appointment time?!? She then says that she can send someone over around 12 noon, maybe 12:15 or so, or she can reschedule me on another day. Since I already took off work, I did not want to have to do this another day, so I said fine, give me a call to confirm that. I asked to be given a discount for my inconvenience, and she says she can offer me a $5 discount that they usually reserve for seniors. So I wait and wait, and finally she calls at 12:30 P.M, and says the tech is finally done, do I still want him to come by? Since I already waited for an hour and a half, I was like sure. The tech doesn't show up till 1:15 P.M. The tech was pleasant and he was fine; the service done was fine (basically vacuumed my furnace and washed my filters and checked my freon on my AC; that's it really). He gives me the invoice, and the bill says 184: 189 - $5 for my "discount". I point it out to the tech, he corrects it, so I think all is ok. I check my statement this morning, and sure enough, I get charged $184. I call them back, and I get the same lady on the phone. I asked her why I was charged $184, and she goes that's how much our service is. I explain to her that I was quoted $169.95, so it should be $164 and she says that is not correct, check our phone book ad. And then she goes, I don't have time for this, I have other people on the line with no heat, and then hangs up on me! You would think she would feel somewhat apologetic for making me wait 3 HOURS for my appt; instead she claims that I got a "great deal". Will never use them again.

I called. They came. They fixed. I paid. Everyone happy. It was very cut and dried deal. I looked at the list and since Able Heating is nearby and had good ratings, I chose them. Office staff and the tech both were pleasant and helpful. Tech told me the price of the switch before hand so I knew what I was getting into.

Paul provided a quote and the unit was installed within 2 weeks. I had priced the furnace a year earlier over the phone from nearly 10 vendors but waited until this year to install. He is very reasonable. The installers are quick, clean, and informative. The only part of the process that left a little to be desired was that it took a little while to receive my paperwork after the work was complete. Now that it has been a few months we have had a chance to digest the work and the furnace is running quite well.

Overall the experience was great, very professional all work was done as promised.

Very well. No complaints. Paul provided an education in heating and cooling, patiently explained all the options for condensors and recommended the most reliable as opposed to the most expensive. The actual installation went off without a hitch and the installers were very nice, new their business and kept me abreast of what was happening throughout the course of the installation.

Paul told us all about the Rheem furnace and how it differed from most on the market. He showed us why we didn't need a heat pump (which at first we wanted) as well as a new furnace. His price was much lower than any other mfgrs' bids, even with their rebates if we had waited until spring to install. Richard and Art came on time each day, did their work thoroughly and professionally, took off their shoes each time they came into the house. The furnace was installed in one day. Richard showed us how to use the new programmable thermostat. When the pump that removes excess water from the furnace sounded strange, Pat came by quickly and replaced it with a new pump. The only problem came with the paperwork. We kept getting the wrong paperwork, wrong model numbers, and the wrong figures (full price vs equipment and labor) for rebates from the state. It took several phone calls for resolution. Office staff is now learning what Oregon and Energy Trust require.

Excellent!!! Turns out it is a good thing to call highly rated service folk in your neighborhood. When he heard my address he realized I lived close to him and he made me his first stop. Quick, professional, and fair.

Was told I was not going to be charged labor to replace the computer since problem was discovered at time of first service, but ended up being charged $35 for the service call. I guess that's less than a normal service call, but more than I was promised. They were original company that installed the furnace and AC unit 7 years ago, and they did an overall good job. Permits, someone brought that up, and I don't know that I ever saw one. It would be a good thing if they were more up to date on this one.

The estimate was reasonable and was $2,500 less than the other estimate we obtained for comparable products. We had to wait over three weeks to get the furnace and A/C installed but it was during their busy season in June and July. The two installers were punctual and professional. The A/C was installed about a week before the extremely hot weather in July and it worked great. We just started using the new energy efficient furnace this week and it is very quiet. We are happy with Able and would use their services again.

Overall the work happened on time and quality of work looked satisfactory. The problem came when I asked for permit. For some reason they were not willing to call-in the required inspection even after calling at least 4 times. They had taken the permit, so that was not the problem. I ended up calling the city and got the inspection done, which was extremely easy process.

Paul was loud, rude and pushy. Very unprofessional attitude.

It was the day before Portland was to experience one of the hottest weekends on record. My air conditioner did not work! I left a page with ABLE the night before and was called early the next morning. The repair man was here by noon and the problem was resolved. Yes, it was only the fuses but I could have had a long hottttttt couple of days. I appreciated the quick service. I called the company who installed the unit but they were not available until Saturday at double the cost. I highly recommend.

On Saturday during the heat wave they responded within 1 hour of our calling. Pat fixed the A/c in a few minutes. We are satisfied and will continue to use them.

This company knows what they are doing. I had called several other companies, and they wouldn't even put me on their schedule until 3-5 days. Able Heating not only said they would try and have someone out today or first thing in the morning. They had a repairman at my house within two hours on day, I know, must have been very busy because of this heat wave. Great service. He was in and out so quickly. He was very knowledgeable and pretty much had figured out what was wrong during our initial conversation, and before he even looked at the unit. Highly recommend this company. And, they were extremely reasonable, only $90.00 for the service call and the replacement parts.

The repairman was courteous and punctual. The furnace was slow to heat still, so we called the gas company to take a look. They immediately cut off the gas supply, telling us that the furnace was unsafe. Apparently the switch which was installed by-passed safety features. Another company repaired the furnace. It was a bit expensive, but I would have preferred to have Able charge whatever it took to fix it safely.

Overall experience was favorable. Although we had to wait over a weekend to get the work done, it was agreed that it was not a major issue. The installers showed up on time, were efficient and knowledgeable, and cleaned up well after themselves. The quality of the work was good. The furnace was sized by looking at the old furnace and using experience- no measurements were taken or calculations performed to make sure it was correctly sized for the house and insulation levels. The furnace and thermostat are working well so far ( 1 week), with no obvious sign that it is too small or too large, so I have no issue with the size of unit that was installed. (Experience does count!) I would certainly call them again in the future.

They were just right on the money. You didn't have to look over their shoulder. Everything they did rapidly and well.
