Very professional from the time their representative came to see what I needed in the way of a system. Able Heating and Cooling took care of all the permits needed and even contracting out the electrician for the wiring. The personell who came to install the units were very friendly, professional, and took the time to show me all about the unit and how to clean and set the temps. I would very much refer to them to anyone looking for the same system to call Able Heating and Cooling.

I called the company at 7:30 a.m. and begged for a service call (it was really getting cold). I had called a couple other places, but they couldn't respond for days or weeks. Able said that they were booked for the day but could surely find some time during the day to head someone my way. Sure enough, a few hours later I got my first call promising a service tech would be by for sure in the afternoon. A half-hour later I got a second call that the tech was leaving NE Portland and would be there shortly. He did indeed show up and after grousing a little bit about how old my furnace was, got on the floor and replaced the bad part in about ten minutes. His work was professional and speedy. What a pleasant business transaction. Prompt, courteous service from very polite people. I thought the price was very fair and I appreciated an "Angie's List" discount. Guess where I'll go buy that new furnace?

We were happy with the excellent service provided and the way that the staff at Able stayed in contact with us until the problem of the inconsistent operation of the furnace was solved. The furnace is working fine now and we are glad because of the cold weather that we are facing now in the Tigard area. We were able to use a Angie's list coupon offered by the contractor which reduced our cost.
Description of Work: Based on a error code on the furnace it was found that a gas valve needed replacing. The Able tech replaced the valve.

.Armondo show up a few minutes early, introduced himself, put on plastic booties to protect my carpet and went upstairs to the furnace and got right to work. He took about 30 minutes to clean and check the unit. He said everything was working well.He was so friendly and nice, it was a pleasure to have him in my home. I will have Able check the AC in the Spring. I am very happy with the service I received!

Professional salesman: met with four contractors and Abel had the simplest, most straightforward pricing structure (the other contractors had so many different charges and credits I had to run everything through an Excel spreadsheet for comparison purposes). Abel provided the highest rated, after looking all over online, highest efficiency gas furnace for the price. In less than an hour he had walked me through all my options, no pressure. He gave a clear explanation of the state and Federal tax credits. Three days later I had a new heating system. No discount for cash payment but you can charge the entire job to your credit card and collect miles, points, etc. Allows you to choose new programmable thermostat with Wi-Fi capability, touch screen and so on (recommend the Venstar -- very intuitive). After installation, Abel doesn't charge you until two weeks later, to assure your happy with their work, and after passing City inspection. Installation: Arrived at 8:30 a.m. and had a gas furnace installed before 2:00 p.m. Checked if the existing AC worked with new system. Very professional staff; didn't make a mess in the garage and gave a quick primer on how to use the new thermostat.

Kelly's team - from the office staff to the installers - provided an extraordinary level of customer service that is rarely found today. I called Able for help the day before our big heatwave....when I ran my AC, the fan in the furnace sounded like it was coming apart. James told me they were booked for the next 3 weeks. I was in a panic and told him I would have to call another company. James said no way, he would see what he could do and get back to me. Long story short, they got someone to my home right away, diagnosed the problem - the furnace was on it's last leg - and made arrangements to keep me cool while they ordered the new furnace...a portable AC was delivered and installed. Jill stayed in contact with me. The day of installation, they were prompt, professional, polite, funny, hare-working and they wore booties over their shoes in my 'please remove your shoes' home. The portable AC was removed as soon as the new furnace was working. Mike, who came a week after installation to deliver and explain my tax credits and collect the balance had everything in order to make it a very easy process when it comes time to file my taxes. Finally, an error was made that turned out in my favor. Able handled it in the most gracious way possible! This is truely an amazing company...I encourage you to put Able Heating #1 on your list.

Over a weekend, I went into the garage and noticed a loud buzzing noise coming from our furnace unit. When I investigated it, the noise was clearly coming from the blower assembly. Being a DIY guy, I cut the power to the furnace, and got out my tools. I was able to determine that power WAS going to the blower, but that the blower was seized (i.e. attempting to turn the blower wheel by hand showed that it was difficult to turn, indicating bad bearings). I disassembled the furnace to the point of pulling out the blower motor. (It was a Trane XL80, very easy to service). It only involved removing the flue, the control board, two more screws securing the blower assembly and *voila*, the blower assembly slides right out! Yep, it was seized all right. Problem is, it's Sunday and I am working the next day, Monday. Another problem is that my Internet research shows that the Trane XL80 uses a proprietary blower motor! What?? Sure, they could have used a generic one, but NO, Trane needs to make this one all fancy, with lots of extra wires and connectors. It costs a pretty penny, too, given that it's not anything terribly special (e.g. a 1/3 HP electric motor with 4 speeds). At any rate, it was clear there was no way I could source such a motor on a Sunday afternoon, so I waited and called Able Heating and Cooling 1st thing Monday morning. I spoke to the lady who answered the phone and explained that I needed the blower motor replaced or to buy a part from them and do it myself. She handed the phone to the owner, Kelly. Kelly was courteous and professional. He spent a few minutes asking me HOW I knew that the blower motor was dead, etc. (e.g. Did you check to see it was getting power? Did you check to see if the blower wheel would turn by hand?) After spending a little bit of time telling him exactly what I did, he confirmed that my diagnosis sounded correct. I told him that I was a DIY guy on a tight budget, and that I had a choice: 1) Buy a part from him and do it myself. 2) His team could come in and do the install for me. I explained that I had the system apart, and I gave him the serial and model numbers for the XL80. The choice would be made based on how much cash it would cost me out of pocket, and how much time and hassle it would be. Obviously, it would be less hassle if his team completed the repair I had started. Now, I know that some contractors refuse to walk into a homeowner-started repair job, as there is little to confirm that the homeowner didn't just botch the job and create MORE work for the contractor. After I talked to Kelly, two things happened: 1) Kelly decided that I had correctly diagnosed the job, and he decided to take the risk to complete the job for me. 2) He gave me a fair price for doing so. (He even mentioned - "Well, if you are right, you've saved me a diagnostic call and a 2nd trip to pick up the blower motor." I agreed to his team doing the work. Turns out they had a cancellation that AM, so within 2 hours, Kelly had a tech out at the house, and within 3 hours, the repair was DONE! I am terribly impressed, and the speed, professionalism, and reasonableness was just top-notch all around. If your experience is like mine, you will be very happy with Kelly and his team! A+ (P.S. I docked them 1 point on quality since the technician left the wires that he cut out of the old blower lying all over the floor and didn't clean up after himself. Other than that, it all works well and was well-installed.)

We obtained several estimates uisng Angie's List and chose to work with Able Heating and Cooling despite the fact that their cost was slightly higher. This decision was based upon the demonstrated integrity of their Estimator, Mike. He took the time to ask the questions that led him to help us select the exact fit for our needs. He explained all of our options; their pros and cons and the reasons behind those factors. The installation was completed as scheduled and at the projected cost. The installer was pleasant, efficient, and cleaned up after himself. We are very satisfied customers, will call Able Heating again should the need arise and would not hesitate to reccomend their services to anyone with HVAC needs.

Able personnel surveyed the job site prior to working up a proposal. As a part of this they sat down with my wife and daughter to explain to them the factors they thought important in specifying the details of a final proposal. Example: an AC unit that might not be adequate in Arizona, would perform just fine here in the Pacific Northwest. (A competing firm did not take the time to discuss the potential details of thier proposal.) We went with Able's final proposal and a Trane AC unit was installed. The installation crew arrived with the unit and all the supplies and equipment they needed. Later in the day, a third man arrived who was the electrition for the job. It took most of the day to run all the lines, connect the unit and get it up and running. As far as I could tell everything went as planned, there did not appear to be any delays in the work and no apparent do-overs. At the end of the day the unit was running and my daughter had a cool house. What could be better? We were also pleasantly surprized that the AC unit ran so quietly, if we can be permited a small plug for the Trane equipment. Our personnel experience with AC units has been they can be a bit loud. In the end, the installation crew cleaned uip the work site and took all material with them when they left. They did a good job. We are glad we had them go the job. Thanks again. .

Mike the salesman was very nice to work with and timely in quoting the work. The installation crew were very professional and great to work with. Unfortunately they had to crawl around in a tight attic space during our hot weather we've been having, but they got it done! They are helpful with getting all of the rebates and tax credits that our high efficiency system qualifies for. We got three bids and they were in the middle. We decided to go with Able after we found the low bidder to be harder to get scheduled and didn't get a good feel from our dealings with that company. I'm glad we decided to go with Able, it went very smooth. I would highly recommend Able and would use them again!
Description of Work: Our 1913 craftsman had no existing ductwork serving the upstairs. Able installed a Mitsubishi ducted split system at the 2nd floor. The completely new system included installing an air handler in the attic, heat pump w/ pad in the backyard, new line set, new electrical wiring to equipment, all new ductwork serving new five registers, and wireless thermostat. They had to cut the existing ceiling attic access opening larger to fit the air handler up into the attic, and even repaired the trim work at the attic hatch to my surprise.

First off let me say if you hire this company, request Leland for your tech..... Very nice guy! He was fast and seemed well skilled in what he was doing. Explained everything and very easy to work with. I hired Service Now, another Angies list provider to diagnose and fix my AC, and after missed appointments and rude dispatchers I fired Service Now and went with Able! So I went on Angies list and found Able Heating and Cooling and dealt with Jill in the office. Jills is very nice and pleasant to talk with. She performed and operated as I would like a provider to do so. She kept me well informed and scheduled Leland out within 2 days with the correct motor to my home and the work was done very quickly and properly Able has earned my business and I plan on letting all my neighbors to use them for any ac and heat needs..... PS plus they were much cheaper then Service Now without the hassle and rudeness. Now I am enjoying my cool house..... THANKS TO JILL AND LELAND the job got done I am very satisfied with the work and service. In closing you cant go wrong with this provider based on this project.

We called mid-day on a Monday because our air conditioning wasn't working. The work was scheduled for the next day, and the repair person showed up on time. After diagnosing the problem, he had to go get a new motor. He quickly returned and installed it very quickly. The scheduling staff were also very pleasant and responsive. After I wrote my initial, very positive review, we discovered that our air conditioner still wasn't cooling properly. So, we called Able back and they once again were prompt in their responsiveness and showed up as scheduled. However, the problem turned out to be that the air conditioning pump unit was unplugged -- a simple fix. Which has made us wonder -- why didn't the repair person find this the first time? We believe the carpet installers we had in our condo several weeks before we discovered the air conditioning wasn't working had inadvertently unplugged the unit. It seems that the first thing the repairman should have checked was whether the pump was plugged in. He also didn't check thoroughly after he installed the new motor whether the air was cooling properly or not.

Response from Able Heating & Cooling LLC
This customer had given us straight A's on their original review. The customer is concerned that we unnecessarily changed the fan motor on the air conditioner. I'm very sorry they feel taken advantage of; our company just doesn't operate that way. We work hard for straight A's! Our technician, Leland, demonstrated to the customer the "seized" fan motor. When he completed the repair, the unit was cooling to 51 degrees outlet temperature (in other words, it was cooling in the home). Air conditioners on the roof (where this customer's was located) do not have plug-ins to check. There was, however, a condensate pump in the closet with their furnace. The properly working A/C had filled the condensate pump some hours later, and shut off as a result of the pump being unplugged - these pumps are wired to stop power to prevent the pump from overflowing. Apparently, the carpet cleaners had unplugged the condensate pump and plugged in a lamp instead. We returned once we received their call that the a/c was not cooling like it should, and we quickly diagnosed the problem - we did not charge for the service call. The owner of Able Heating & Cooling has reached out to this customer to offer remedies and our sincerest apology.

Technician was very professional and competent. Work was completed in about an hour. It's been about a year since the heat pump was serviced and we have had no problems with heating or cooling and our electric bills are lower than they were the year before. Also, the heat pump runs less in both hot and cold weather.

Technician arrived about 30 minutes early, but called 15 minutes before arrival so we were prepared. I explained to him that our A/C was working for the most part, but seemed to be pushing less air year over year. It was unable to cool the house to below 76 degrees when it was 90 outside. He quickly warned me that this was likely normal and that there probably wasn't much he could do. I informed him that the unit had no issues with 100 degree days when it was installed and he said that units get less efficient over time. I was skeptical of this vague and broad statement, but I'm not a professional. He inspected the unit and asked if I changed the filter. I informed him that we change it every 30 days and showed him where the filter was located behind the return air grill. He then pointed out that there was another filter inside the furnace itself. It had not been changed in 6 years since the unit was installed as we were not informed of it's existence. He opened the rest of the unit up and we agreed that it needed cleaning in a bad way. He brought down his shop vac and cleaning wipes. I brought down my air compressor which he also used to aid in the cleaning process. In the mean time, my wife went to the store to get a new filter for the furnace. The cleaning job was satisfactory, but I expressed my concern that the evaporator coils were likely also very dirty. He said that he wasn't too concerned about it and that I could have them inspected during a regular maintenance visit. I asked if he could take a look and he said he didn't have time. This was my only frustration as when I called for service originally I stated that I though my evaporator coils were likely clogged. Nonetheless, they were the only company that could come out in two days. Everyone else was 4-5 days out so it's hard to complain. :) Overall, the tech was very friendly and seemed knowledgeable. He only charged me for the trip ($44) and 30 minutes of labor ($44). This was very reasonable in my opinion and I will definitely be calling them back to do a regular maintenance visit. On his way out, he did recommend that i get my ducts cleaned (by another company) to improve air quality, etc. However, my ducts don't look all that dirty to me and online research suggests that there is much debate on the value of duct cleaning. He didn't provide any specific reasons why my ducts needed cleaning, but seemed really keen on a particular company to do it.

Mr. Wilhite (the owner of Able) was very professional. He came to our home, on a Sunday, despite being swamped as many units were breaking in this 90 degree heat wave. He had the part needed in his van and he replaced it quickly. He did not charge us an arm and a leg for service on a Sunday. They try to see as many people in one day as they can, instead of just scheduling X number of appointments each day, so calling Able is a good bet for quick service. He even allowed us to use the Angie's List coupon he has up right now. Thank you, Mr. Wilhite!
