Called Able on 8/5/15 to schedule an appointment to have our HVAC cleaned and serviced ASAP. Andrea was amazing at fitting me into the schedule due to this being required as a condition of the sale of our home. Armando came out 8/7/15 to service and clean the units. He was great - friendly, helpful and knowledgable. No up-selling or attempts to make money in an unethical way like we experienced with other companies in the area. Great overall experience.

Revised opinion - The company contacted me on 8/3/15 wanting to get the details of what happened. I explained what happened and the person I spoke with was very very sorry. She mentioned she had someone in the area and could get someone over right away. At this point I had already scheduled another company so didn't need them. She offered for me to speak with the owner and I declined. On 8/4/15 the owner contacted me and again accepted responsibility and was extremely sorry. As compensataion he offered to pay for the service call of the other provider (of course I took him up on it). I am extremely appreciative of the steps Able took to rectify the situation. We have used Able in the past and have always been very satisfied with their service. After all the attempts to make the situation right I am revising my previous opinion. I will gladly use Able in the future.
Description of Work: NOTHING!!! Contacted them at 10 am on 8/1/15 asked for service to look at my AC. I asked for service that day if possible. The girl I spoke with said they were in my area (Beaverton) and that she couldn't set an exact time but would call before they came over. I called back at 3 pm to see when they would come and she said that she had scheduled me for Monday. I told her no that she had said they were in my area and would by today, she told me that they had been called away from my area for an other call but that she would contact them to came by. At this point I asked her when the office closed and she told me "when all the clients are served". I'm giving this company an F because I wasn't served nor was I ever contacted on Saturday. So upset with this company!!!!

We are not typically open on Saturdays, but as a result of the 90+ degree weather we asked our technicians to dedicate their weekend to emergency "No A/C" calls. We had one technician that was not able to work, and two other technicians that worked from 9am to 8pm that evening. We are very sorry that this customer was not able to get their a/c repaired on Saturday - unfortunately, we just couldn't get to everyone. We are very sorry, and hope that we can make it up to this customer.

I was impressed with this company upon my first phone interaction. My A/C broke down during this record heat wave like so many other people. I called other companies who were all booked a couple weeks out or did not service Forest Grove. One wanted to charge extra for coming to Forest Grove, but was also booked a couple weeks out. I called ABLE and the gentleman on the phone didn't just schedule me, but had a conversation with me and trying to help me troubleshoot the A/C just in case it was something I could fix on my own. He ran through a list of possibilities with me and after trying a few things from my side, it was clear I needed to have it diagnosed and likely serviced. He also gave me advice about my A/C that I had not known before so I can take better care of it in the future. For example, I didn't know that residential units were designed for a 20 degree weather differential. Very helpful to know this! At that point, they were able to schedule me within a week. I wasn't expecting that considering I was aware of the current high demand for services. It was $88 to for them to come out and diagnose the issue. Still cheaper than other places I've called. The ABLE repairman was about 15 minutes delayed, but the company called me and let me know he was on his way. Great communication! He did was only briefly delayed and went straight to work diagnosing and quickly repaired the run capacitor in a flash. I had cool air the same day. I'll use this company again in the future for my HVAC needs and also recommend them to people I know. They were nice to try and help me on the phone to do simple fixes and they didn't have to. In fact, I've never had any company try and do that before and was grateful that they'd consider wanting to help save me money if possible. That's something you don't see everyday in a profit-driven world anymore.

A chronology of events is perhaps helpful. Wednesday, June 17. Called Able. Considerable amount of water was leaking from furnace. Dispatched Leland. Leland says it?s either a blocked drain pipe, or the blower motor is going out. Cleared the drain pipe to coil. Thursday, June 25. Getting worse. Called again for help. Friday, June 26, sent Leland again. Now says that the pan is cracked and we need a new one. Also, water might be damaging the control board, and possibly blower motor. Said that someone might be able to come out to fix it over the weekend, but Monday at the latest. Said it could be at least $3,000 to replace the parts. Temperature that day: 95 degrees. 6/27: 92 degrees. No word from Able. 6/28: 85 degrees. No word from Able. 6/29: Contacted Able to get update. Spoke to receptionist, said the person I needed to speak with was out of the office; did not know when he?d return. Possibly that afternoon. Told her that really wasn?t an acceptable answer, as I needed to know what was going on in terms of schedule, cost, etc. She connected me to Jill. Jill indicated we?d hear back by the next day with an estimate and a game plan. I sent a message through Angie's list confirming my conversation with Jill and highlighting the issues we were facing. Able: Competitor: 6/29: 90 degrees. No word. 6/30: 92 degrees. No word. 7/1: 95 degrees. No word. 7/2: 97 degrees. No word. 7/3: 95 degrees. No word. On recommendation of friend, called Competitor. Tech came out right away, Friday at 7pm. Said that cause of pan crack is furnace. Even if We replaced the pan, it would happen again due to furnace issues. Would check on parts availability, but recommended possibly replacing entire system. 7/4: 95 degrees. No word. 7/5: 96 degrees. No word. 7/6: 93 degrees. No word. Confirmed parts were at least 2 to 3 weeks out. We contacted another contractor who agreed with Competitor: the system was beyond its useful life. Could spend money on parts, but it would go out again. Gave us bid on entire new system ? furnace, coil and compressor. Scheduled installation for July 16-17. 7/7: 88 degrees. No word. 7/8: 91 degrees. No word. 7/9: 87 degrees. No word. 7/10: 81 degrees. No word. 7/11: 73 degrees. No word. 7/12: 83 degrees. No word. 7/13: 82 degrees. No word. 7/14: 84 degrees. No word. 7/15: 83 degrees. No word. 7/16: 80 degrees. No word. Began installation of system. 7/17: 88 degrees. No word. Completed installation of system. done on time, and under budget. 7/18: 97 degrees. No word. 7/19: 97 degrees. No word. 7/20: Jill from Able called and left a voicemail saying that a part was in, and that I should call to schedule. I had no idea Able was ordering any parts, as no one from Able contacted me since 6/26 to discuss what parts were needed. Days elapsed since my last contact with Able: 21. Of those days, 20 were above 80 degrees and 11 were above 90 degrees. During that time, during that heat spell, I didn?t even receive a courtesy call, message or e-mail telling me that Able was slammed, the part was hard to get, etc. Nothing. Zip. Nada. Zilch. ? and then, 3 weeks later, Able calls me to try and schedule replacement of a part that, if replaced, would only be a temporary fix. Needless to say, we're not happy with Able.
Description of Work: Misdiagnosed problem, which was a cracked coil pan. The pretty much ignored us for 3 weeks during a record heatwave.

Unfortunately, this customer fell victim to one of the longest hot spells we’ve seen in 40 years. We have been operating at a company capacity that is twice our size just to keep up with demand; but that is no excuse. Amidst the craziness we tried very hard to get the replacement coil in a timely fashion, and we were promised to be contacted once the coil came in - but you are entirely correct, it took way too long, and we left you out of the loop in that regard. I'm glad you were able to find another contractor to perform the work faster, and ultimately get a new system installed that will provide you piece of mind and relief. We are genuinely sorry for letting you down, and hope that we can make it right.

It was hot and I know they were swamped. The technician was friendly, efficient and had us up and running in short time. Outstanding customer service!!
Description of Work: A/C unit went out on one of the hottest days of the year and when I was expecting our 2nd baby the very next day! Although they were fully booked, they had a cancellation and were able to come out the next day to replace the blown capacitor.

I initially chose this contractor because they were a Angie's List super service award winner for several years. Initially, I received good service as they confirmed the time when they would be out and the rep was very punctual for the appointment. The rep provided quotes and explained the various quote options and prices. The rep promptly gave us quotes via e-mail. I had some additional questions about the quotes and e-mailed those to the rep. The rep responded promptly, but I had a couple of additional questions and e-mailed those to him. I did not hear back from him for over a week and sent him another e-mail to give him a chance to respond. I never heard back from the company and it has been about a month since my last correspondence. Since there has been no follow-up by the rep or the company, I assume they were not interested in my business or were just too busy (this is a busy time of the year for this type of company). I did notice that the rep that came to our house did not really do a thorough inspection of our system and whether we had the right size of equipment to cool and heat the house. When I had asked about that, he said that for the size of our house, he thought it was about right. When I had another company give us a quote, he told us otherwise and mentioned that our duct work upstairs was not delivering enough air to adequately cool the house. The Able rep did not look at our duct work or ask any questions about it. Based on my experience, I am not sure how Able earned an Angie's List super service award. As they say, "you do not get a second chance to make a first impression." My first experience with Able was not a good one and, as a result, I cannot recommend this company based on my experience.

Early morning before we left for work we found one of our bedrooms full of smoke and called the fire department, after the fire department determined the smoke was coming from our gas furnace, we called our trusted HVAC team at Able Heating and Cooling they dispatched a technician immediately. The technician arrived within 1/2 Hour and inspected the entire system, changed the filter and informed us of what the problem was - excessive dust and soot as we have a wood stove we burn in the winter at times - and how to ensure it doesn't happen again replacing the filter every three months instead of every six. Highly recommend this company we have been using them for the last 5 years for all of our heating and cooling equipment.
Description of Work: Inspected furnace after fire department was called for excessive smoke coming from heat vents.

We noticed our AC wasn't running correctly a few weeks ago. We called Able Heating on the afternoon of 6/1/2015. They said they could have someone come look at it between 9:30-10:30am the next day (6/2/2015). On 6/2/2015 I got a call from Able Heating letting me know the tech was about 30-40 minutes from our house and would be there about 9:45. The tech showed up about 9:40. We briefly talked about the problem. He asked us to turn the cooling on and then we went outside and looked at the AC unit. Right away he said its most likely the capacitor in the AC unit. He turned everything off outside, and replaced the capacitor. Everything worked just fine after that - very happy with the phone call and service they provided.
Description of Work: Diagnosed AC unit that wasn't running correctly, it would just click when trying to run. Replaced capacitor on outside AC unit.

The blower motor on the furnace went out and he came by the same day we called! Lucky for us he had a blower motor. It was a very cold day and with no heat, it would have been miserable with no heat. We appreciate his prompt call back and he actually showed up earlier than the appointment time.

This is a professional outfit and I am very pleased with the work performed. The owner completed a very thorough initial inspection to produce the bid/quote and walked me through the various units/options available and the difference at each level. No pressure to commit after we finished either. The crew showed up right on time for the install, we're courteous and got right to work. My particular job required the raising of my furnace; rather than see that as an issue/pain I could tell the crew was focused on getting it right. Simply put they hit on all the important factors and I highly recommend them and would use them again.

Came out to service our original 1986 furnace and recommended since we were selling the house to replace it - safer all around, would be a stumbling point due to being out of code, and would provide us with the tax credit instead of the next owners. They were able to schedule for the next day - team came, was polite and worked hard. They were unable to fix all of the code details the service man said they could and they split a board in our siding putting in a drain pipe. We contacted the office team the next day and they got out a service person right away to finish up all code updates (to both our new furnace and water heater system, which was not brand new) and repaired the boarding siding with caulking. Quick and wanted to make things right - appreciated your help taking a stressful situation and having it go pretty smoothly in a short period of time!

Everyone in the company was professional and listened to what we wanted. The owner and installers both took pride in their products and services. We never felt pressured to buy anything and they worked with us to provide the quality we were looking for and in our budget. We have been working with a lot of contractors lately, and I wish all contractors I have hired had this amount of knowledge and investment in their products. I honestly cannot say enough good things. This was a big investment for us and I have never felt more comfortable with our decision.

I called company on Feb 5, 2015 to get an estimate for a vent pipe repair. The owner and I had a good conversation and he informed me of potential future problems with my furnace. He asked me to text him a pic of the vent pipe needing repair and he would respond with quote the same day. I climbed on roof in the rain, took pic and texted. A few days later I had not received a quote so I called back. He said he had got busy the day of our conversation and it slipped his mind but he received the pic and would send me estimate in next day or two. That was about two weeks ago and I haven't heard from him since nor have I received a quote.

My furnace igniter went out again. At least I was pretty sure that's what it is. It's a good furnace, only 8 years old, but the igniter has gone out on it a few times. Two of these times were under warranty. Able Heating and A/C was recommended by a coworker, so I called them at 7:15 am. I left a message for them telling them what I tought the problem was and I also gave them the make, model number, and serial number of my furnace. They called me back at 8:30 and said they could be there in 1/2 hour. The serviceman's name was Leland. He did a snappy job. He had the part on his truck. Replaced it. Made sure it worked after the replacement, and was on his way in about 1 hour. I recommend Able Heating and A/C.

Description of Work: When we put a second floor addition on our house Able installed the new mini split ductless system. We dealt with many contractors on this project and in one way or another were disappointed with most. Able was the exception. Although I had some issues with Able mid-way through our project, Kelly went above and beyond to address my concerns and provide excellent service. They also recommended exhaust vent covers, which we had them install. It was an overall excellent experience with them.
Description of Work: They performed a furnace tune-up and indoor air quality test on our Rheem unit They also addressed air flow design issues and leaking condensation where the condensation reservoir was cracked and they replaced this part at an additional cost.

The fan in our furnace was out of balance and was scraping the side of the plenum. We called several H&C service companies, left messages - none returned our calls. Able was next on our list, they promised to send a technician in about 3 hours. Nick arrived on the dot, immediately knew what to do, repaired the fan for minimal charge. We are completely satisfied.

I am very impressed with how quickly Able Heating & Cooling was able to bid and complete the work I needed done. This was working around the holidays and I was under time pressure to complete the work before closing a sale of the home. Their technician was also able to comfortably share the work space with carpenters replacing some siding and trim and cleaning moss from the roof.
Description of Work: One of the repairs needed to complete the sale of a rental house was to replace the chimney for the gas furnace. They sent a technician out the day I called to examine the problem. They called with a bid quickly, working around the holidays, and completed the work three days later. My regular HVAC company said they could not even work up a bid until eight days after we actually had the work completed.

Armando went above and beyond a standard service/maintenance call because he was able to diagnose some vent issues we have been having and, in general, educate us (as first-time/new homeowners) about how the system works and how to maintain it. We discussed installing an attic fan, which will help when it gets really hot in the summer. When I asked about air purifying systems he went to his truck to retrieve some informative pamphlets. Above all, I had complete confidence that he is an expert, that he is honest, and that he is professional and friendly. When it comes time to have the central air system serviced in the spring, I will be sure to call Able Heating & Cooling.
