I chose Marshalls based on reviews I read on Angies list and was not disappointed. The job included removal of a heavy old fireplace insert which was removed without any problems. The installation of the heat pump was completed in half a day, there was just one problem when one of the installers began drilling a hole through the foundation in the wrong location which then had to be filled, but other than that everything went well. The weatherization was done another day.
Description of Work: Ductless heat pump installed and weatherization.

Not happy with the overall experience of dealing with them
Description of Work: I filled out their online request that stated that they gave free estimates. Asked them to call afternoon because of working graveyard. They called in the morning instead and then sent someone out without confirming it with us. We weren't home. The person apparently looked at our heat pump and found one thing that needed repaired left a bill for $99 on the door for the "diagnostic testing" and also said that the part would be $129. After a day of calling and not getting the person that I wanted to talk to I finally got through to the service dept to tell them that I did not authorize anyone coming out and that I was under the impression that the estimates were free they agreed to take the $99 charge away but said that if someone did come out to replace the part it would be an additional $50 charge for the inspection.

We had five estimates and although Marshall's was not the lowest cost estimate, they were by far the most professional and comprehensive. This was a difficult installation. A "T" shaped house, with 4 plus bedrooms, 2650 square feet and they listened to our concerns, offered ideas to consider and didn't just try to "sell" us. They took some of our ideas, offered many of their own and were the most professional throughout the process. It took over a week to install and their installers were top notch. Cleaned up after themselves everyday and explained what was going to happen that day every morning when they arrived. After the installation was complete, their own quality check supervisor came over to do his own inspection and found a couple of items he wanted corrected that we were completely unaware of. The next morning the crew showed up and made the corrections. When the city's building inspector showed up a few days later, he remarked that it was an excellent installation. And that is really what you are buying; the quality of the installation. Marshall's exceeded our expectations.
Description of Work: Installed an energy efficient natural gas furnace and air conditioning, and instant hot water system in our 1969 built ceiling heat home. Also installed a set of gas logs in our living room fireplace. This was a big job, 4+ bedrooms, 2600 sq ft. They were here everyday for over a week. Absolutely professional installers, top notch, handled all the details with the gas company, the permits, the electrical, the sheet metal fabrication, gas plumbing and installation, testing, everything. They don't cut any corners and upon final inspection, the city's building inspector remarked it was an excellent installation. It's been six months and we could not be happier. Saving over $100 a month on heating compared to last year. Except now we are warm and cozy. Highly recommended.

They did what they said, but I have some unhappiness. They gave a competitive price. I would advice anybody dealing with them to make sure that everything you understood and was agreed to is in writing in the contract and not just in verbal understanding. They were professional. The contract was based on the assumption that an electrical outlet did not exist and they would have to install it. It did indeed exist and I pointed it that it was in our home. He said that he will cut me a price break of $125. Then he said that the electrical contractor had problems and because of that his bill was a $125 more. So, he said that he won’t be able to give that money back. I spoke with one of the electrical contract employees on the job that had to come back and do some work to meet the code. He said that the job went very well and it was one of the easier ones. I got a feeling that I was just ripped because I didn’t have the estimator at the time of signing the contract changed the amount.

The work was difficult, because my furnace and water heater are in the attic which is accessed by a small ceiling hatch located in a tight little hallway. They had to remove the existing appliances and install the new through this limited space. Other work involved putting a gas line through my foundation under the house. All work was done professionally and carefully. My fears about damage were unfounded -- they repaired what little nicking they did to the hatch-way. The new equipment was secured neatly and carefully in the attic, and they even moved the attic light switch to a more convenient location. They cleaned up every scrap of debris at the end of each workday. The project manager was especially courteous and attentive to my concerns. About a month after installation, they came to check the operation of the air conditioner since they couldn't test it properly in the cool spring weather at the end of May. The equipment is working beautifully. Price wise, Marshall's bid came in $2000 less than a competitor, and they did not charge me the full amount of the estimate in the end.

They put the heat pump in as promised and I am happy with the product just not the after service.
Description of Work: This company was great to repond before they put the heat pump in. After it was in and I had a billing question they would not call me back. It took many calls for them to finally respond and I didn't think that the answer that I got was fair. I live in a condo and they said the reason they wouldn't honor a $100.00 coupon is that my condo board made them wait 30 days to install.I am talking I would call in the morning and be promised a return call by close of that day. Days later, no call. This was repeated over and over.

Overall, we were pleased. Our only problem was getting a return call to schedule the work in the first place. Our paperwork got sidetracked.
Description of Work: Installed a Sanyo ductless heat exchange system preapproved by EWEB. The cost does not reflect the rebates received. Marshall's was one of several bids we received. The work consisted of placing two units in exterior walls in 2 locations and connecting them to a unit installed on a concrete pad near the outside staircase leading from our back deck. The work was performed when scheduled and at the estimated price. The workmen were quiet, considerate, thorough, and walked us through the manual as we operated the heating and cooling options. They left the areas tidy and clean.

They gave me one estimate just for the cost the furnace, not including any information for adding an air conditioner. They didn't explain any future costs if I were to add the air conditioner later. The estimate they gave was good, but he didn't get me all the information that I needed. The estimate was emailed and there was a time frame that prevented me from asking for further estimates.

first meeting was with very polished professional-looking professional-sounding SALESMAN. part of his pitch was the federal tax credit which he explained as a $1500 credit to my tax return. I questioned this but he said that in his experience and as he understood it, the credit would be to my tax return. And as a result of that calculation, the price of a smaller heat pump would be the same to me as the price of the larger heat pump. I chose the larger. The $1500 tax credit turned out to be a credit to the tax owed. My tax was $500, so my credit was $500. so now I am slowing paying off a larger loan than was necessary. new ducting was installed under the house as part of this work. the old ducting had been partially destroyed by feral cats. when I asked Marshall's for a follow-up visit to confirm the new ducting was now secure and I would not have the same problem again, I received NO RESPONSE. I called and emailed. The women were nice. The men were RUDE RUDE RUDE. I will never go back to Marshall's nor recommend them to anyone.

They called back right away and made an appointment. They were prompt and did the work as promised. We were not at home when the work was done. I don't know exactly what they did, but they fixed the heat pump. They did not have to come out again as it was done properly in one visit. They assessed the problem initially. It was not something that required a second visit like ordering a part or something. I don't have anything to compare their price to.

I solicited 7 bids for this project and Marshall's was very competitive, although not the cheapest. I took approximately a month to receive all the bids and go over the details carefully. Marshall?s checked in with me once a week during this process, but was not at all pushy. When Harold came out, we talked about the challenges of putting a heating system in a house that wasn't designed for it. He spent about an hour walking through the house and taking measurements. Several days later he called, asking if he could bring the installer (the person actually doing the work) so they could look things over again. I was impressed by this thoroughness before presenting me with a bid. Once I accepted the bid, and signed the contract, we went over the contract carefully again. I had expressed concern about one area of the house getting enough heat, and Marshall's willingly added another supply register to the project at no additional cost. Marshall's was able to start the job a week later. The installer and I walked through the plan once more before work started, just to make sure we were all on the same page. The installer was willing to take the time to answer all my questions. The work started on Monday, and finished up Friday, exactly as they said it would. I never saw the workers because I was gone all day, but they cleaned up after themselves, and even moved their large amount of equipment to one side of the garage each afternoon so I could park my car in the garage. After the work was done, I was concerned about one heat duct taking up so much room in an upstairs closet (even though I had agreed to this ahead of time). Marshall?s said they would move the duct if I wanted it move, and at no additional cost. I decided not to have it moved after all, but the fact that they would have been so accommodating shows that customer service is a high priority for them. One of the final steps in having the system was installed was to blow insulation into the attic. At the last minute, I was able to arrange to have some recessed lights installed in the ceiling, and I called Marshall?s to see if they could delay the insullation work for a half day while the lights were being installed. They were willing to do this on very short notice, even though it required them to rearrange their other scheduled appointments that day. They put in a programmable thermostat that works beautifully. My house is exceptionally comfortable now. This system was eligible for some incentives through Eugene Water and Electric Board, and Marshall's took care of all the paperwork. Within a few weeks after completion of the project, I received additional paperwork in the mail to apply for state tax credits, along with very clear instructions on how to file the paperwork. A final inspection completed by EWEB went very smoothly, and both of those inspectors remarked a couple of times about what a nice ?clean install? the system was.
Description of Work: Marshall's installed a new ducted forced air heating system (with heat pump) in my 40 year old house which previous had ceiling heat as the only heat source.

Holes were left in the walls and I had to ask 4 times to replace. The slab for the outside blower unit was supposed to be replaced, but was not even after 4 attempts. This included 3 times of just putting 2x4's underneath it to try and make the unit level. Calls to the salesman (Gene) were ignored and his attitude was horrible. The unit was not configured correctly and had to be adjusted 6 months later. Their service department is different from new installations. I trust some of their service people, but you get no guarantee. I would never use them again for anything as they were among the worst at customer service.
