Joshua Gordineer was hired by a temporary Construction Manager to apply an asphalt shingle roof to my home. The structure was a complete rebuild of our home following a total loss house fire in 2008. Josh showed up on a Saturday morning with his helper, and the job was completed in a single day. Initially, the roofing job looked great. However, as time went by, the job performed came under scrutiny. As I began to ask questions, first and foremost for a copy of the contract and bill, it was determined that Mr. Gordineer was not licensed with the CCB at the time he performed the work. I was never provided with any paperwork from the roofing job, and was actually threatened with construction Liens and physical harm when I asked the construction manager for the paperwork. Both the Construction Manager who hired Mr. Gordineer, and Mr. Gordineer himself were fined by the CCB for unlicensed work on my structure in October of 2009. Due to this unlicensed work, I was unable to file any CCB complaint against Mr. Gordineer for substandard work. The applications of the shingles themselves were not nailed in compliance with code. Where the building code states that roofing nails should protrude all the way through the underlying sheathing, this did not occur. The nails used were not long enough to penetrate as far as they needed. This allowed for areas to become loose, and the edging to pull back from the sheathing- allowing water underneath. As the water began to penetrate, the underlying sheathing was determined to be outside of building codes (and mfg specifications), as there were no ?gaps? allowing for the OSB to expand accommodating moisture. Without this ability, the sheathing began to buckle in areas, and there were areas where the sheathing began to disintegrate, as it could not expand. There were 2 skylights that were in place, and the roofing applied around these was not applied correctly. See Oregon licensed home inspection report in photos. At the gable ends, during the first winter following the application of the roof materials, winds blew the roofing away from the sheathing, creating more gaps between the sheathing and roof. There was insufficient attic venting installed, contributing to major buildups of condensation in the early summer months. This led to electrical breakers kicking in each afternoon where the temperature rose above 80 degrees. In Eugene, that was a lot of afternoons. When working with another construction company to repair the areas focused around the construction defects and areas that did not meet building code, it was determined that the entire roof required removal and replacement. As Mr Gordineer proved to be unlicensed during the job, the required 1 year warranty was not enforceable, and no actual bill or paperwork for the job (even after payment was made within 10 days of completion) was ever provided.
