Services we offer

Waterproof Basements and Crawl Spaces using Basement Systems products, Air Sanitizing, Air Purifying, & Mold Proofing.

Services we don't offer

We do not put fiberglass insulation in crawlspaces. Science shows that fiberglass that is open to the elements, such as in a crawlspace, absorbs the water, causing it to hold moisture against the wood, leading to mold and mildew. We will not install this as it causes home integrity issues in the long run.

They did a great job. There was a bit of debris left (roots and dirt) near the house and I had to ask them to clean dirt off the house. They didn't call for a locate for the digging they did ( it was pretty shallow) which I think they should have done. But the work seemed very good.

I was happy with the work while it was occurring and have had no flooding since then. Of course, the proof will be when we break another rain record. I liked that there were several options for me as the customer. I did the demo work which saved me a lot of money and repaired my own wall.

The team at John's Waterproofing was professional and punctual. I was satisfied with the whole process, from the bid to the actual work. They installed a sump pump system in my basement with an 80' trench along the wall. It was needed since my basement was taking on 150 gallons/day during the worst of last winter. The main reason I used John's was that my friend has used them for his house in SE Portland and raved about them. When the crew of 3 guys came in, they worked almost non-stop and completed the project in one-day. I was happy with the result and would hire them again (but I won't have to since they guarantee their work for life). Also, I did my own demo work to prepare the wall and will repair it on my own. This allowed me to save a lot of money. I thought they did a good job mitigating the dust, but there was still some dust left over. To me this is completely reasonable. Anytime you do demolition and construction, there will be some dust, but it was well contained.

The worst company ever. It ended up costing me eight thousand and more to fix there mistake. They took no responsibility in their work. When they came to see the flooding, they wanted to charge me for coming out to see the work they had done. They did accomplish a few things. What they did was so bad. They came in and they came in with a back hoe. The guy did not know how to use it. They ripped up my sprinkler system. Never fixed it. Destroyed my lawn. They were suppose to drain water away from the house, instead they drained water towards the house, which caused the flood in my house. Which would have never happened. Took no responsibility for that happening, none what so ever. Pretty crazy. Terrible. I have no warranty. If you use their services, you better read the contract. There is no warranty. Buyer beware. There is a lot of people that are suing them. The company I hired to fix it, mostly fixes their work.

they raised the price of the quote by $300, then when it was time to pay, they sent me a bill for $550 more. They took a 3 day job and made it most of a month, i had to give my tenants rent relief. They called more than once to "come and finish" and did not show up. I would not EVER recommend them, and will do what ever i can to make sure who ever wants to use them knows the risks, and uses terrafirma instead.

It went great. The work they did looks very good and clean. They found that some of our exterior drain pipes were full of roots and they replaced those at what seemed like a very reasonable additional cost. We had one issue we had a question about and they sent two guys out right away to look at it. The only problem we really had was that they didn't call for a locate for where they were going to dig and actually didn't seem familiar with the need to do that.

The French drain is working well but the rest is marginal. We have some water intrusion in an area that was supposed to be waterproofed, we do not have the molding installation for the downstairs flooring that was promised, and the dehumidifier has not rid the house of the mold smell, as was promised by Kevin, the sales guy. In addition the crew, and sales person, never noticed that the dehumidiifier and sump pump were installed in an area without an electric outlet, resulting in yet another expensive job to add to the $14,000 bill from JW. Also the billing practices with this job were shaky at best - just now, five months after the job was fully paid for, we received a mysterious bill for roughly $350 supposedly for some error that was recently discovered! So overall most of the job got done satisfactorily but it was a far cry from the exemplary work and service I received from John's several years ago when our encapsulation system was installed. I can only give an overall rating of OK since I know there must be better out there.

We first called TerraFirma but the salesman said we could dig out the entire exterior, add a membrane, drains etc for about $24,000. When I pressed for other ideas he seemed unenthusiastic. I said I would think about it and he never contacted me again. We then tried another company who was at least amendable to other approaches and gave me a quote of $12,000 for a sump pump and interior perimeter drains. Then we called John's Waterproofing and Peter came out. Peter was awesome. He had a whole suite of things that could help out in the basement and really listened and discussed our options. We weren't going for a dead dry basement that we could finish, we just wanted to get it dry and lower the humidity. So Peter and I went through all the things and came up with a plan together. In the end we had a sump pump, perimeter drains in the basement and crawlspace, cleanspace barrier throughout the crawl and brightspace paneling on the walls of the basement to stop humidity coming in from the walls. We also had piping installed below ground outside in which to run the gutters out to the street. All of that for only $8000. Once agreed the crews came right on schedule and finished the work ahead of time. I've waited to give a review to see the system in action. For the past week it has been raining steadily. However in our basement is nothing but dry dust.
Description of Work: Our house is at the low point along several blocks and so our half basement/half crawl have always had problems with water intrusion. When its not raining the basement has been humid and damp feeling, when its raining the basement has had puddles of standing water. That has also caused the house to feel damp. We needed to dry out the basement and run water from the roof away from the house.

When I signed the contract with John's, they estimated it would take 6 weeks to provide the service. As I explained the urgency, they were able to switch a few things around and get us serviced within two days! The team was very professional and responsive. Thanks John's! You really helped us
Description of Work: We had a musty/moldy smell coming from our crawlspace. My wife's allergies were off the charts and she was in constant misery. We asked John's Waterproofing to come in, clean up the garbage, mold, animal excrement, etc. We also wanted the space sealed so that the problem didn't return.

My appointment was on Friday, 10/28/2016 at 3pm. No one ever showed or called. When I called the office, they told me I had cancelled appointment? (I waited 3weeks to get appointment because they were so booked out and I really need the work done, so I didn't cancel). Assuming they had appointments confused, the office said they would look into it and call me back. I never heard back from them, nor did they ask me if I wanted to reschedule. Very strange way to treat first time customers.

Tremendously disappointing by these guys. With so many great Angies List reviews, I expected the service would be great. Instead, it was terrible. 1) They told me my initial visit would be with their general manager, and an employee in training. I specifically said I wanted an experienced estimator who could answer engineering questions, and they assured me the general manager would attend the meeting. Instead, the trainee showed up alone. I asked him how much training he had, he said "6 weeks" I asked him about his previous career and he said, "car salesman." He said the GM was too busy and wouldn't be coming, and I told him that was not okay with me. 2) He came back a few hours later with a more experienced estimator. Guy was nice, took measurements, answered questions. I specifically asked for a line-item quote, because we discussed several different system components. He said that was no problem and he would line item the quote. Then when they emailed me the quote, it had no line items, and for somebody asking for $22,000, it was incredibly light on details overall. I emailed back a list of questions, and instead of answering them, they scheduled another meeting. I said fine. 3) The day before the meeting, they called and asked to reschedule. I told them my schedule would not allow for that, and they said no problem, they would be there. 4) The next day we had our meeting set for 2 PM. I took time off work to come home and meet with them. 2 PM, then 2:15, then 2:30 with no call, no show. I called the office and was told, "Eric is never late!" no apology, nothing, just "Eric is never late!" The office then rescheduled me for a week later. I decided to just cancel and go with a more reliable company. In my experience, a company that can't even show up to a sales meeting, certainly wont show up and do a good job after they have my money.

After the inspection the inspector spoke with my wife but insisted on revealing his findings only in person. There was no convenient time for us to meet. She requested a report be emailed. We never received the report. I called again several weeks later, getting only voicemail and again requested an email report. No inspection report was ever sent to us. We have no idea of the findings, nor any explanation why they insist on person-to-person report. They have not been responsive to our requests. Fortunately, we are not out any expenses, but their dubious business practice would make me very hesitant to ever enlist their services.

I was disappointed to hear that it would be 1 month's time before someone could be available. I set the appointment. Two days before my appointment I get a call from their scheduler. Unprofessionally she asked if I could reschedule for an earlier time in the day. I stated I couldn't due to my work schedule. Over talking me, she said "fine" and the conversation was over. The day prior to my appointment she calls back to confirm the day/time. I agreed that the originally scheduled day and time works best for me. On the big day, I get a call from Kevin the tech who would be visiting my house. He left a message asking if I could meet earlier in the day and to call him if that was possible. I didn't call him back, since I was working, and expected him to appear at my house on-time at our regularly scheduled time. He never showed! I was frustrated that this company couldn't commit to a day and time that we set 1 month in advance. At 8pm in the evening, I got a call from the tech and he never apologized for not arriving. He put the blame on me, stating that I didn't call him earlier in the day to reschedule. I thought this was very unprofessional. Overall, I had a poor first impression with this company.

He is a friendly chatty fellow, and really liked my dogs. I had to steer him away from talking about my dogs to talk about my water intrusion problem. He was knowledgable about the recommended interior perimeter drainage system. He came out on a Tuesday. I asked would I receive the estimate by eod Friday, and he assured me he'd write it up that night or the next day, so I was expecting it no later than Thursday. On Friday I still had not received the estimate, so I called him, and told him I wanted to make a decision over the weekend, so could he send me the estimate by eod Friday as promised. He mentioned how busy he was, but yes could probably do it. Well, no estimate received on Friday, or Saturday, or ever. No follow up phone call or anything. I guess they weren't interested in my business

It took nearly 2 weeks to get someone out to my house, but the gentleman arrived early, was courtesy and of the 5 businesses I called they are the only ones that called back. He seemed experienced and knowledgeable. We had some miscommunication however, and about about a week later the same gentleman and his manager came out. They looked at my basement and the outside spaces and sat down with me and walked me through their whole product. At all times they were very polite and informative. I would absolutely work with them if the price had been closer to what I had in hand. I was not aware that really what they were offering was a whole system and there isn't a good way to do only part of the system or do the install in pieces. I am only having issues in one place right now, so completely doing my basement felt like a little much at this point. Furthermore, their focus is not on keeping water out, but rather managing it once it gets in. The high price point/scope of the work combined with a financial setback that made going beyond the amount I had already saved not really an option are what stopped me. They were great to work with across the board. A year or two from now with more money and potentially more moisture issues I will probably be giving them a call.
Description of Work: I had someone come out and look at my basement in the hopes of getting a quote and an idea of the scope of work that needed to be done.I have about 5,000 in hand to spend on solving some humidity in my basement and patch a crack or two in the foundation.

It was fine. The initial installation they did the year prior was very good. Both times the technicians and installers were professional; did good work and were very pleasant. The only negative was in trying to make arrangements for the installation initially. We left voice mails and weren't getting call-backs. That was worrisome. Our contractor referred us to them, and since we trusted him, we decided to follow though. The installers were great, I just never did understand the communication issue with the front desk.

John's Water Proofing has been out to my house twice in the last couple of years to give me quotes for remedying water issues in the crawlspace. The first sales person insisted on installing a high tech type clean room and the second on at least tearing all of my vapor barrier and insulation out and replacing it. While I can't dispute that both of these solutions likely would have been "good" for the crawlspace they were both totally unnecessary and overkill for the issue at hand (I have done a lot of research and met with several potential providers). Also, I never did receive the promised written quotes from either of the sales reps even after emailing and calling the company to follow up. I am highly disappointed.

The plan was to dig a trench in the crawl below the level of the foundation to catch any water in the crawl and send it to a sump pump instead of allowing it to find its way under/through the foundation concrete. The problem is, when the delivery crew showed up, they didn't dig the trench deep enough and water could still get under the trench and reach the foundation. When I found water in the same spot a week later, I called to have someone come back and figure out what happened. This is when I got the full "run-around." A different estimator came out and agreed that the crew didn't dig deep enough, and that he and another crew member would be back in a week to dig the trench deeper. At this point I was annoyed that it didn't happen right the first time, but pleased with the company's willingness to fix the problem. Two days later, the two guys returned to complete the fix. However, after 1/2 hour, they stated that the amount of dirt they needed to excavate was too much and they'd need a crew of 4 to come back at another time (they couldn't have seen this the last 2 visits???). The crew chief said I'd be getting a call in a day or so from the scheduler to set a date for the crew to come. A week later, after not getting any calls, I called John's. The scheduler stated that they needed to send another estimator out to look at the space. I pushed back saying that multiple people have already been out and the next step according to the last guy was to schedule the new crew. I was sick of having to clear my schedule for people to look at the same thing over and over. The Production Manager was the next person to come out. He stated that they couldn't dig deeper because of a foundation issue and there wasn't more they could do. He then had the nerve to try to sell me other services to fix the problem! If digging the trench to the needed depth wasn't feasible from the beginning, why was it quoted initially? Why was the work performed and completed? I understand if some of their people are incompetent (multiple estimators and a crew chief), but that they don't right the wrong when they screw up is borderline criminal. I will never use this company again and if anyone asks me for a recommendation, my only one will be to not use John's Waterproofing. That is $6500 I will never see again.
Description of Work: John's Waterproofing was called to come out and assess a wet area of carpet in my finished basement. After a long discussion with the estimator, we determined the best course of action was to waterproof the crawl space since the carpet area in question was near the wall to the crawl space.

We will not install this as it causes home integrity issues in the long run.
