This was a great experience. Installing the gas for the kitchen was a little tricky because the line had to go between two finished floors. The crew was great and was able to get it accomplished. They were courteous, prompt, and professional. They protected my floors from foot traffic and potential damage. At the same time a gas line was to be installed under a deck being constructed. Unfortunately the two gas lines couldn't be installed the same day due to the deck being behind schedule. Bill and his crew came back out two days later and quickly finished off the outside gas line. I really appreciated their flexibility in being able to work with the deck installers and me to get the gas line installation done in a timely manner. I plan to have them back out to install the as cooktop as well as the gas firepit. This was a very easy and enjoyable experience. I would highly recommend Evergreen.

Evergreen was recommended by the vendor for the gas insert. Evergreen came out and measured my fireplace checking that the unit I picked out would fit before I purchased the new gas insert. They also directly communicated with vendor to adjust the parts I needed saving me money. I purchased the unit from the vendor and Evergreen picked it up and brought it to my house. They removed and disposed of the old unit. They installed new intake and exhaust tubing in the chimney. The new insert was installed pending inspection. They scheduled the inspection and were able to finish the installation as soon as the inspection was done. They were able to work with my schedule and get this done quickly.

I have an older gas insert stand alone fireplace. It has always been difficult to light the pilot. The valve knob froze up, and the pilot light went out. I attempted several times to re-light it myself. I cleaned the parts and tried again without success. Placed call to Evergreen and they were very professional and courteous. They were able to come out in a few days to possibly a week from the time I called. This was impressive since we are having quite the cold spell in Portland, and they are more than likely extremely busy. The repair person was able to get the unit lit, and gave me some pointers on how to maintain it. I was very pleased with the service, and would definitely use them again.

I called about a gas fire place that was malfunctioning. They charged me $150 for a service call and the tech simply told me the fire place was dirty and needed to be cleaned. He did nothing because he does not "clean." I vacuumed out the fire place and realized the problem was not the cleanliness, but the plumbing needed adjusting. I called back and asked if they could come out again and fix the problem. I also complained about the $150 and they agreed to apply the $150 towards fixing the plumbing. When the tech showed up to do the job, he said that they were no longer going to honor my$150 credit because "they don't work for free." Instead of trying to work something out, he said the office would send me my money back and that they he refused to work for me.

We had contacted NW Natural Gas before moving into our new house and arranged for the purchase of the two gas inserts (Quadrafire) and a new gas cooktop (DCS). NW Natural does not do the installs so they recommended Evergreen Gas. I contacted Evergreen and scheduled an appointment. Bill showed up right on time and we walked through the house to look at what was needed. I also mentioned to him that the furnace did not appear to be turned on and so he offered to take a look and turn it on for me. He opened the front panel and did a visual inspection where he spotted a crack in the burner and said that is probably why the furnace was turned off. He said it was something they could fix but it was an older unit and not very efficient so I asked him for a quote to replace it. He sent me two quotes that evening, one to install the fireplaces and cooktop ($1800) and the other for a new furnace ($5000). I called him back right away and gave him the go ahead on both and asked how soon they could do the furnace as it was starting to get cool in the evenings. He told me that they would put the furnace in priority and ended up scheduling it early the next week. The fireplaces and cooktop would wait until after we returned from a scheduled trip. Bill arrived right on schedule with three other employees (and electricians) and they got right to work. They laid down tarps on all of our floors so they did not track any mess. Bill had the electricians do the wiring for the furnace and also had them run power to the fireboxes for the inserts, saving me the cost of a second service call for the electrical. The Evergreen crew got busy removing the old furnace and then started installing the new one. The installation only took a few hours and that included running a new vent pipe through the roof. When they were done I had a brand new furnace and thermostat and warmth in the house. The crew cleaned up everything and hauled it away. Another crew member showed up and spent some time with me setting up the thermostat and explaining how everything worked. The inspector showed up the next morning and signed off on the work. We are back from our trip so today they were back to install the fireplaces and cooktop. Once again they showed all kinds of professionalism, everything from spreading tarps to letting me know that they were going on break. I like to watch the progress of work and ask questions and they were not the least bit bothered explaining the details of the install. They completed as much as they could, cleaned up and called for the inspection (tomorrow morning). As soon as the inspector passes the work then they will be back to install the face plates and do their finish work.

Business owner Bill patiently waited until I was able to secure my funding for this project. When I voiced concern about needing to make my dollars stretch, he found ways to save costs, including cutting out a day's worth of labor. We have never experienced a crew that worked so efficiently while delivering their promise to get the job done in three days vs. four. To meet that promise, crew members were literally running at times. Yet, when we asked that photos be taken of the crawl space and attic areas that we were unable to access, it was done without hesitation--even though the work was already finished in those areas. That meant, opening up the crawl space and crawling on one's belly through spider webs and dust for a fourth time. That act elevates "good service" to a whole new level. Moreover, the crew was respectful, courteous, and eager to please. Even the crawl space photo request was done willingly and with a smile. I would recommend Bill and his team to anyone. I feel like those three days have cemented a long-term relationship for any servicing needed on our heating/cooling system. I wish they did other work as well, I'd hire them for everything!

Bill provided us with a quote on dec 17th. I liked that he not only provided a quote for his work (fire place installation - $950) he also provided a quote for the work L&K Electric did (electrical/gas line work - $250). He than worked with NW Natural to determine when the gas fireplace was available and arranged for pick up. He got the permit, did all the prep work for installation and coordinated his work with with L&K Electric. Bill came by while the inspector was here the next day and finished installation. All the work was done within 2 days which I thought was very quick. It was a pleasure working with Bill.

We had already bought a woodstove insert and scheduled the installation for a couple of weeks away when suddenly our furnace went on the fritz. Evergreen came out to check the furnace. It was hosed. The weather was about to do the Arctic freeze, so they scheduled our woodstove installation for the next morning, due to a cancellation. Our installers were courteous, professional and efficient. The woodstove works great!

In short, Bill Belden and Gabriel of Evergreen Gas did a superb job on all of the tasks, and went well beyond the expected service in several ways. Their professionalism, courtesy and quality work are unmatched in our experience with heating/AC contractors in Portland. Bill responded on the day we requested a quote and was the lowest bid. They kept us alerted as to the time they would arrive each day and were always punctual. Unlike many of our experiences with home contractors, they finished ahead of schedule and did not sacrifice quality on any task. They deconstructed our furnace and ductwork the first day and left the basement work site in good (usable) condition. Because the old 'can' for our gas furnace was not in good condition, Bill went back to his shop to build a new one (not in our contract) at no extra charge. The second day they started installing the AC unit which involved siting it outside on a pad, running the line set, drain system and several other tasks. We were amazed at how efficient Bill and Gabriel were in finishing. On the third day, they finished the furnace, AC and water heater work and waited for the plumbing and electrical work to be completed. On the fourth day, Bill completed testing the systems thoroughly, and did another job that was not in his contract. The system is now working perfectly in high 90s heat and we are very grateful. Finally, we should note that when you work with Bill and Evergreen Gas, you know that you will be treated honestly and fairly, a rare combination in home contracting. We give Bill, Gabriel and Evergreen Gas our highest recommendation!!!

They picked up the insert at NW Natural, brought it to my home and installed it. All work well done, on time, and correct. Arranged for the permit and inspection.

It went very well. The City Inspector said it was a very professional job and he was very impressed.

These folks never disappoint! The owner is on the job, extremely competent and never sloppy. They're on time, charge what they quote and do really nice work. I especially appreciate the fact that they're personable and can explain things (such as the process for approvals and inspections) in a way that's easy to understand. I'd bring them back again... but I'm out of fireplaces!

Bill worked us into his very busy holiday schedule at the last minute for which we were very appreciative. He and his associate arrived at the arranged time and did a terrific job even when encountering the unexpected (the stove we were replacing was old, heavy and difficult to remove and the vent connection posed problems that they resolved in a timely fashion). They also carted the old stove away at no additional charge. Both installers were pleasant, professional, and extremely careful to not make a mess when removing the sooty old stove. Bill returned after the inspection, completed the installation, and gave us instructions on how to use and care for our new firestove. The whole process was positive from start to finish.
