When Dave came out a second time on 10/20/09 to install the new thermostat, he was unable to get it to work. In fact, after he installed it, nothing worked including the heating, cooling, and circulation system. He went downstairs into the basement for 1/2 hour; he came back inside the hoouse and contacted Affinity for help. He removed the new thermostat and reinstalled the old one. Changing back to the old thermostat had no effect; nothing worked. Dave said he was unable to return the thermostat to working order and that someone else would be out soon that might have better luck; he had no idea how long we would have to wait. This contractor spent a total of 2-1/2 hours at our home. WE WERE LEFT WITHOUT HEAT FOR FOUR DAYS. We eventually had others come in to repair our thermostat. Apparently Dave had not wired it correctly and had blown a fuse. To repair what he did cost us about $200. The insurance company says they are not responsible for the work that the Affinity Corporation did. Affinity has not returned my phone calls. I sent a certified letter in the mail outlining what had happened and asking them to reimburse us $248 (the $55 co-pay and the cost to us for repairing the contractor's mistakes.) Right now the insurance company is going to try to help us; if not, I am prepared to file a complaint with the State of Oregon Contractors' Board. It is interesting to note that apparently the original problem, our compressor fan, was repaired when a $11.50 part was replaced. So the thermostat was not the problem at all.
Description of Work: Affinity is the "in network" contractor for my home warranty insurance so I paid a $55 co-pay. The promise is the contractor willl keep coming out until the repair is successful at no additional cost to us. Our compressor fan wasn't working properly so I contacted my the home insurance company and they assigned the Affinity Corporation to do the diagnosis and repair. When Affinity sent Dave, he diagnosed the problem as a faulty thermostat and said it had to be replaced and that would make the compressor fan run correctly. He attempted to install the new thermostat on 10/22/09.
