Absolutely horrible. He stole my money. I ordered doors, windows and gates for a chicken coop. I don’t know where to start because there were so many things wrong. The quality overall was deplorable… all of the gates and doors were racked none of them swung freely. The glass in the windows was glued into the frames with silicone caulking. None of the wood was sanded or primed before painting and was sticky. The paint was all over everything…glass etc. He used cheap, framing grade studs that were ripped for thickness. The holes for the doorknobs were drilled at an angle so the knobs could never sit flush.

I order a table and barns doors from Randy and had issues with the quality of work. I order them to be in a custom color it was to be a warm brown/tan color the items I received are green in color. The stain looks more like paint you can’t even seen the wood grain. It is inconsistent and even has gray patches on the table. Everything is sticky to the touch. The varnish didn’t set right. On the edges of the barn door he used a black stain but didn’t tape off the front or back of the door so black stain is on the front and back of the doors. He stained with the hardware on. So brand new hardware has stain on it. One of the barn doors is a bifold barn door. It has four panels (or two halves). The two half are not the same pattern. I have reached out and am still waiting to hear back.

He was awful. He primed two walls and disappeard for over a week. This job was on a tight time frame the contractor was fully aware of that- he just chose to ignore any needs but his own. We ended up painting the main walls oursleves so the tenant could move in. It took several phone calls and meetings to get any work out of him. He would show up and blame us, saying "our insturctions were not clear" but he never called or asked questions until he was confronted with not doing the work - and he refused to take responsibility for signing a contract promising to do the work in 3-4 days. Excuse after excuse came from him - trying to justify why he couldn't get the work done on time. The fact is, he just refused to show up and work. He often showed up at 10 oclock at night to begin work so no one saw who actually did the work. His work was sloppy and unprofessional. He slopped paint on our baseboards and dripped on the finished floor. He used our painting equipment and supplies without permission. We asked him to itemize his bid so we could see how much we saved by doing the work ourselves but he refused to itemize his bid. Later we found he had changed the name of his company from Big Boy Painting to Scott Merriwesther - but he goes by Randy. I guess thats what you do when you have too many bad reviews, change your company name and abuse more customers. Don't hire him if you want work done. He is a disaster.
Description of Work: Contractor signed a contract to provide certain construction/painting and clean up services in 3-4 days. He required 50% down.

I saw Randy pictured in the Statesman paper from his community outreach efforts. He provided a quotation for the painting, but also was very insistent about quoting the whole job. He was very responsive in getting back and seemed to "want" the job more than anyone else. He really did care. The good news is the final product came out phenomenal. The neighbors didn't even recognize the house. The house looked like it was built yesterday and even had the "new house" smell. In the end it was about results. The project was about a week later than I had planned, but there was much more flooring work than planned. In the end Randy and his group delivered.
Description of Work: I bought a 1920 era house that had been severely damaged. From the roof, the flooring and the other drywall problems (including a 6" hump in the main floor" the house need to be totally remodeled. The kitchen, both bathrooms and living room were all entirely gutted and remodeled to include carpeting, paint, ceiling fan and laminate flooring. All doors and trim and hardware were also replaced. The exterior siding was totally replaced along with two broken windows. It was a total remodel along with the big dumpster with the Demo.

I had them tear down a front and side deck, which they did well. The materials were supposed to be taken away, but that took over a week. It was done, so it's not a big complaint. I selected a couple of colors for the house that they later supplied. It matched what I wanted perfectly. His crew did most of the painting in one day. Afterwards, when the sun went down and there was no glare on the house, I noticed a lot of missed spots and there were shiny patches from spraying incorrectly. Missing the spots was understandable, since I couldn't see them either in the bright sunlight. They came back once while I was out and touched up a few areas, but missed most of what I had found. They repainted the shiny patches, but they were no better. Then I found out that his crew didn't know there were two types of paint; one for the vinyl siding and one for the hardy plank. I never found out what happened that day. Did they use the wrong paint on the wrong material? I won't know until it starts pealing, I guess. I emailed him saying that it might be easier to see in the late afternoon or evening. He said he would come out and respray the shiny patches himself and look over the missed spots. After a few days I decided to email him pictures of the the missed spots and the shiny patches, in case he showed up while I was out. He never showed up. After emailing back and forth a few more times, asking when he planned on coming out, I just got promises that never happened. In late September, I told him that fall/winter was coming and there wouldn't be any way to paint while it's rainy and cold. I never got a reply. On October 6th, after many emails, I had had it and told him he had a week or I was giving up. He didn't like the ultimatum and we haven't talked since. Currently, the house is exactly as it was when he last touched it in August. There are spots with no paint and shiny patches that look terrible. From the beginning, he said that he would leave some extra paint. We managed to find a partial can of the base color, but I will have to tear down a piece of trim to get the trim color sample; He didn't leave any. I have photos of everything and all of the emails to back up my story. I'm not sure if there is a place for them here on AngiesList.
