Description of Work: We had a computer that would not start. They were able to determine it was the motherboard and not the hard drive. They were able to download the hard drive to a external hard drive. It was a Friday afternoon and realized that we would want it that day. They are closed on weekends. They made sure we were able to have the hard drive back and gave advice on new computers. We were very happy with both the price and the service. The amount included the external hard drive price.

 + -1 moreVery good customer service and follow through. Listened carefully to what help I was asking for, then came up with a great solution. Very happy and have recommended them to another friend with computer problems.
Description of Work: Brought in our lap top which was not initializing to have it checked out. However, ended up buying a larger used lap top from them they had vetted and updated which had a lot more features than our little notebook-- and for a very reasonable price.

Description of Work: They swapped out a damaged cover on my HP Pavilion Laptop. They were able to fix the problem that happened when I dropped the computer on its corner. I thought it was a hinge problem but it was the cover and the repair fixed the problem of the laptop not being able to close. Very helpful in discussing the problem in non technical terms.

Description of Work: The motherboard on my laptop died and could not be replaced. Eric graciously talked to me about what might be best for a replacement and then performed the data transfer efficiently and quickly. The new laptop works perfectly and I have found no issues with data that was not transferred. He even spent over an hour showing me how to use Windows 8.

 + -1 moreJared came the week before to look at my computer and diagnosed a power start mechanism failure. It would cost almost as much to repair as to buy a new computer, so I bought a new one. On the 14th, Jared installed a wireless router, set up my new computer, printer, backup, transferred data from the backup and moved all data into a restore folder. He made sure that everything worked properly and taught me what I needed to know to use Windows 8. He also set up Windows 8 so that it performs in the way that my old Windows 7 performed. I am very happy and highly recommend Jared.

Description of Work: Took my laptop in to be repaired in September after I spilled a liquid in it. They cleaned it and replaced the keyboard. After I got it back t continually crashed on me after 5-20 mins of use. i took it back in November and they cleaned it and said it was working. It still crashed on me all the time and the DVD player did not work. I sent it in to the manufacturer and they ended up replacing the motherboard, dvd player, the keyboard and a couple other major parts. If Salem Geeks had done a more complete job in the first place it would not have been that bad and I would have been saved a lot of grief!

 + -1 moreMy computer crashed and while I could see the data I was unable to retrieve it. Salem geeks loaded up the hard drives and copied it all off. I was up and running with the data on another computer the next day. They tried to rebuild my 8 year old lap top but it was also having motherboard issues. Then we discussed options for a new one. They did a professional job.
Description of Work: Salem Geeks did a great job at saving off my data from a crashing drive. They gave me all my options and helped me to select a new computer not even for sale at their store. I would definitely use them again.

 + -1 moreActually it was a friend I sent to Salem Geeks. She was thrilled with my recommendation since the other estimate to fix her laptop was $200. I used Salem Geeks before I retired to handle repair jobs that due to their familiarity with the problems they could fix in a fraction of the time I could. They were always inexpensive. I convinced coworkers who were loyal to Atwin Computer Service (another good company but an additional 30 minutes from work) but to start using them when we had problems finding parts for Gateway laptops and they and Atwin were only in Salem that could get the parts. They have always been happy with the service.

 + -1 moreIt went very well. I'm pleased as usual with the quality of the work that Jared does and also respect his personal qualities. A fine business and good people running it. Also, I had a $15 coupon which Jared applied to the normal house call rate.
Description of Work: Windows froze while doing an installation. I called early this morning and left a message that I needed a house call. I was called back soon after they opened at 9:00. Jared came immediately and fixed the problem. While he was here, he also fixed some other minor things that were troublesome with the computer and gave me information and advice on some equipment that I was thinking of buying.

Description of Work: Windows 7 would not perfom many functions after a bad program uninastal. Geeks repaired the operating system without having to do a reinstal.

Description of Work: I was getting warning notices from Windows that my external hard drive had mal functioned. Jered changed the settings and all is working well now. He also took my previous computer and accessories, will safe erase that old hard drive and will rebuild it for some other person.
