Salamander Designs specializes in designing sustainable yards and gardens that are lower maintenance, beautiful year'round, and waterwise. In addition, Salamander Designs specializes in incorporating native and edible plants, lawn alternatives, and naturescaping. JJ Sweeney, owner/designer, does not own a car and rides her bike and takes the bus, therefore the service area is very restricted; willing to travel much further but client would need to provide transportation.

Services we offer

Sustainable Landscape Design & Consultation.Several levels of service: one-time consultations, on-site designs for small areas or part of landscape, plant procurement, plant placement, maintenance schedules, and coaching. Available for lectures/workshops/classes in many landscape design and garden related topics. Can teach you how to prune.

Services we don't offer

Installation; computerized drawings; 3-d drawings; detailed specifications of hardscaping features. Prefer to do on-site designs for smaller areas or part of the landscape.

While I did not end up working with JJ, this was only due to my change of heart as to how to spend my very limited funds. I found JJ's website in the Portland reDirect guide and was very impressed with her philosophy of working with clients to discover and achieve the garden they hoped for. JJ answered my call promptly, sent me information and a survey, and then followed up immediately to see if I had further questions. She was very professional and personable. When I do decide to take the leap into working with a landscape designer, I will call JJ first.
Description of Work: I did not have work done by Salamander Designs; it was initial communication only.
