 + -1 moreI tuned the car in on a Friday. They did all the prep that day and applied the first coating. They recommended I leave the car overnight so the coating would have more time to cure and then applied a second coat Saturday morning. It was raining when I picked it up -- Oregon! -- but the car looked great and the water beaded like I'd never seen before. The Opti-Coat Pro+ seems to shed water and dirt very well. There is no magic force field -- the car still gets dirty but is much easier to clean up. How will it hold up over an extended time? Way too early to tell and a lot depends on how carefully I maintain it. Oh and the price was actually not quite $1200 as they offer 5% off for Angie's List members.
Description of Work: I took delivery of a new car in South Carolina and drove the car 3000+ miles back home. As you can imagine, it was pretty filthy when I arrived. I washed it, but found that the bug strikes had etched the paint on the front bumper and front of the hood. Uh-oh! I normally will drive a new car home from the dealership and immediately wash it and park it inside while I apply glass treatment, a few polymer coatings and a layer of wax. In this case, I did not have the opportunity to do that and now faced a problem. While I enjoy routinely keeping my cars up, this was a tougher situation; I don't feel I have the skills for paint correction, so went looking for a local expert. Final Touch looked like they would be worth a try -- and I was intrigued by the high-tech coatings that I have been hearing of on auto forums and that Final Touch does. The package I chose was expensive -- $1199 -- but then the car was expensive, too, and I had given BMW an extra $1950 for an special paint option, so I decided to do it. I chose the Opti-Coat Pro+ package which included prepping the surface (wash, paint decontamination/correction) and application of a coating to the paint and wheel faces. With a 7 year warranty. And a follow-up wash and inspection within 30 days to make sure everything was OK (and educate me on maintenance of the coating.)
