The worker was extremely slow and the final cost was $538. Needless to say, I called and complained; the supervisor I talked to was sympathetic and we agreed on a $175 reduction, but I would not use this company again.
Description of Work: I had 5 light switches replaced and changed a ceiling fixture in the dining room.

The repair was completed correctly, although there was considerable delay in part due to ordering of parts required, as well as due to inclement weather during the holiday season. We were not concerned about that, as there was prompt response to our calls. Unfortunately when we were billed I found out that we were paying for the electrician to drive both directions from Salem to Portland for 3 trips to our home which ultimately took place to resolve the issue. 15 hours of labor were charged to complete this work in addition to parts which left the initial bill at just under $3000. It also took more than 1 month (closer to 2) to obtain a detailed itemized receipt so I could understand what was billed leaving me feel the cost was not transparent. The quality of work was great, but please be cautious about overtime and labor charges if the cost of your project is a concern.

I have used an electrical company called Cherry City Electric recently. They were easy to make an appointment. They kept their appointments. They seemed to be efficient in carrying out the job that they needed to do. The person who did the work was prompt, pleasant and easy to engage in conversation with. On the surface, it is all fine as along as the wiring does the job, over a long run, it is great. I don't remember that they were either exceptionally low priced or exceptionally high priced. I can't really judge the quality but the county did come out and did inspect and said it was fine.

Excellent customer service on front end - was able to schedule work just four days ahead. Office staff was friendly and prompt returning calls. Electrician called to say he was running ahead of schedule (when does that happen???) and arrived about an hour early. Work performed quickly and below estimated cost - and was done before the originally scheduled time.

Description of Work: Ask exactly what you will be charged (travel time for the electrician, the cost of the materials, hourly wage, etc.). Demand an itemized invoice (I never got one). Do an internet search to determine what is an approximate cost of the job in your zip code area. I called to have a bathroom exhaust/vent fan replaced due to mold issues on the ceiling. I was quoted a rate of $450-$489.00 which seemed high to me. Since our favorite electrician wasn't available I went ahead and agreed to have the work done by Cherry City. They took down the particulars of the job and asked if I wanted a noisy/loud or quiet fan installed. I asked for a noisy one. So, they installed a Broan 'Ultra Silent' bathroom vent/fan. It works beautifully (quiet, but it works). Here's the problem...The electrician was very nice when he came the first day. He shortly realized the new vent would require a 4" exhaust vent tubing and our current one was only 3". He offered to try to do the necessary work even though it wasn't in his training. I elected to hire a air/vent/heating company instead. They came a week later. This company found that the tubing was going nowhere (into the floor space and not actually exiting the home). The person who did the siding on our home apparently put siding right over the exit hole. So, for 23 years, this exhaust fan has been blowing steam/moisture into our ceiling/floor joist area (hence, mold). I paid this other company $350.00 (their mininum) to exit this tubing out of the home. This took less than 1-1.5 hours. The Cherry City electrician asked to be present for this work and stood by. He did ask about going to check on a nearby client while he waited, and I said "sure". When he returned he installed the fan in approximately 1 hour. I got a call from Cherry City a few days later explaining that the bill was going to be $650.00 instead of the estimate of $489.00. I asked for an invoice of the charges because that basically seemed outrageous. Michelle at Cherry City didn't know exactly why it was so high, but thought maybe it had to do with the fact that tubing had to be placed, etc. I adamantly said "no, that can't be because I hired another company to do that and I paid them $350.00, so my total bill for replacing a exhaust/vent fan in my bathroom was going to cost me $1000.00 which seemed crazy". Why she didn't have the exact bill/invoice stating what the charges were in front of her, I don't know. I later learned that to replace a bathroom vent/fan in this area should have cost me $250-350.00. Apparently the electrician's time for travel was included in the charge. I wasn't informed of travel time charges, only the total estimate. Michelle had another person call me back a few days later and he agreed to keep the cost at the high end of the estimate, $489.00. He said the charges were the electrician's time (approimately five hours). I paid it. Although I really appreciated Cherry City lowering the bill from $650 to the high end of the estimate ($489.00) I will not use this company again. I paid a total of $839.00 to have a new bathroom fan/vent installed. I will be paying more to complete/repair the area outside the house that was soaked (soffit, insulation and a small amout of new wood/siding. The fan's nice and it has fixed the mold problem, but definitely does not seem worth the price.

The electrician was prompt, neat, courteous and efficient. My complaint is in the charges on the bill which was sent to me a week later. When I made the appointment, I was told that the minimum charge was $85.50 per hour, including travel time. The electrician had just worked on my neighbor's house, so there was no travel time, and he probably spent no more than 30 minutes checking and correcting my wiring. Consequently, I expected the bill to be just the minimum $85.50. However, when I received it, a $30.00 and quot;permit feeand quot; had been added, along with a $9.00 and quot;partsand quot; charge. I called Cherry City and told them I had checked with the City of Salem and was told no permit had been obtained for my house. Their response was that it was a new thing with the State that was required on all jobs. (This should have been added to and disclosed in the and quot;minimumand quot; quote I was given.) I then asked about the charge for parts, since he had not replaced the outlet, and I was told it was probably for and quot;nutsand quot; or something. I have asked for a detailed list of the $9.00 worth of parts used and the name of the State agency that requires the $30.00 permit. I'm still waiting for those. My neighbors had a similar experience with them the same day. Consequently, because of Cherry City's outrageous billing method, they have lost any future business from either of us .
Description of Work: According to the electrician, the GFS outlet in one bathroom had been miswired causing other outlets in the house to malfunction. He checked all the outlets that were affected then rewired the miswired outlet, which resolved the problem.
