Excellent experience. We knew up front what decking material we wanted, as we had used it on an indoor swim spa surround. We also knew we wanted a smaller deck -- the old one was an L shape and we wanted to eliminate the smaller arm but keep the size of the main portion. The demo went well. There were several very large pieces of rock/concrete forming part of a waterfall that started by the deck -- I dismantled the waterfall and ponds but the rocks were huge and Backyard broke them up and hauled them away for us. After removal of the old material, they quickly built a new frame for the deck. There was a short delay while awaiting delivery of the Fiberon deck boards. In the meantime, we had discussed options to improve the ugly concrete pad by the deck and Derril suggested some pavers to cover the concrete. We liked that and decided to add that to the project. We had originally been thinking about a (faux) stone wall as skirting for the deck but that would have increased the cost quite a bit. Derril suggsted some vertical boards (essentially fence boards) which we decided to go with as an interim solution. They turned out to look great -- and added only $200 to the total cost -- and I think we will just stay with the wood skirt rather than changing to stone. The new decking went on in just a bit over a day. We then waited a couple of weeks for the new Clearview aluminum railings. Those showed up yesterday and were installed today and the new deck with adjacent paver patio looks fantastic. We are very pleased with how it all turned out. Derril and his crew were a pleasure to deal with. One measure of a company is how they handle emergent problems. We had one: During the deck demo they hit a cable going to the heat pump, tripping a breaker, etc. Fortunately, the weather was not extreme and losing the pump for a day or two was not a problem; we were relaxed about the issue and Backyard was most apologetic and got an electrician out to fix the line.

they were very punctural. My deck is close to 600 sq. took them two days to power wash and treat the tree saps. then they came back the following week 6days later to put the stain and protections on. I am very pleased with the work!

My experience with Derril/ Backyard construction has been years of remodels, additions, and a studio built from the ground up, not those cheap sheds/ barns set up on blocks where in a few years of settling/or ground shifting, the doors and windows don’t open/close correctly. Derril is a total perfectionist and I wouldn’t let anyone else touch my home. When he builds something it is solid. His vision and design ideas are outstanding!! Derril and his crew can build anything. People have to realize that construction jobs/companies are a juggling act. Everyone wants instant gratification but these guys need to make a living and while waiting for electrical to be done on one job, they go and start another one to keep working, keep their employees working and continue earning a living for their families. Because of BackYard Constructions work on my back deck/cover and Studio built (my neighbors jaw drop and tell me I have a piece of Shangri-La), It is now a shady, peaceful and beautiful place to spend my spring, summer, falls -and in the winters in my studio refinishing furniture or whatever ever else I want to do. Folks let’s have a little patience, kindness and flexibility for these hard working guys. I can’t say enough positive things about Back Yard Construction-They Rock, Rule and are Awesome! If I could I would give them an A+++++ rating!

The existing front porch and deck on the place we bought had rotted in places and was not safe to walk on without being very careful. We had had considerable difficulty finding a contractor to take on the job but finally found Derril who was very helpful in explaining things like the different materials we could choose for the repair or rebuild. He did the drawings, got the permits, and worked the job into his schedule. The result was excellent, although it did turn out that the entire structure needed to be replaced since some of the supports were also failing. The new porch/deck is very sturdy and aesthetically pleasing. He showed up when he said he would with his crew and they got the job done in just a few days. There was one missed appointment after the deck was completed when we asked him to come back to check on something, but otherwise we were pleased with the experience and would recommend Backyard Construction.

Derril and his brother did three things for me. First, they restored my front deck. Then they cleared the moss from the cement pathways around my condo unit and sealed them with moss resistant sealant. Then they took down my back deck and built a new deck. They are hard workers, good craftsmen, timely, and efficient. I recommend them highly. I would definitely call on them again.

Derril showed up on time and seemed to understand our project, he had some very good ideas for construction and materials. We had seen some of his work on his website and were looking forward to his bid, which he he stated he would personally drop by the next day. However, he never showed up, called, messaged or otherwise indicated that he was interested in the project.

Our experience with Backyard was perfect, there were no problems. The designer, and the person who oversaw the work had great ideas, and they were easy to work with. I highly recommend Backyard Construction, and I would give them all A's.

Very well. The workers did an excellent job. They were friendly and professional. They did an excellent job cleaning up after the deck was completed. We highly recommend this contractor.

Went very well. Quality very good, easy to work with, had good design opinions. Most delays were due to material availability problems. Would definitely recommend.

They were very good, they worked fast and for a cheaper price. They were very professional and easy to get a hold of. You do have to schedule in advance because he is a small company.
