Overall I was very pleased with Chris and A-Team. As they are a contractor for my warranty company he will be doing all necessary repair work for us. I gave the A-Team a D on punctuality due to the fact that he was 1.5 Hrs late for my appointment. He did call me multiple times to keep me informed though.
Description of Work: Called the A-Team to service my furnace and gas insert fireplace. When Chris the technician arrived an inspected the alcove where the furnace and water heater are he noticed that the venting for my gas water heater was not aligned properly which meant that it was not venting properly. He fixed it so that it work properly. The furnace was my main concern as it was spewing water and gas fumes out the exhaust pipe. Chris determined that the exhaust vent was not properly pitched to remove the water which was then causing a pressure switch to cycle multiple times and damaged the controller board. I had purchased the home June of this year and was able to use my home warranty to cover these issues

I was very happy to be able to help out the member and let him know what was wrong. His water heater had a 3" p trap for some reason right off the water heater? I removed it so it drafts vertically now. We had a busy day that day with running to grab parts for other customers without heat. The member's appointment was between 1-4pm and I arrived about 5:30pm. I called him to apologize and let him know I was running late around 2:30pm. I called again at 5pm to let him know he was next and I was on my way. His furnace had a big droop in the line in a finished area going over his living room and vents down out the bottom of a wall in the back yard. The inspector missed that one. We will be back soon to re-vent the furnace properly. We appreciate the opportunity to help them with their heating needs.

I got a call from my renter about 7am saying the heater was not putting out heat. I went over to see what was up and found it was beyond my expertise and went home to look for a repaireman. Looked in the yellow pages an then it dawned on me, I had just became an Angie's member months earlier. Went to Angie's site, heating & AC and looked who & what reviews were listed. Found that A Team was close by and had very good ratings. Gave them a call, Chris's wife answered (very pleasent) took my info. and said she'd call Chris and get back to me. Aprox. 5 minutes later she called back and said he would be in the area about 9:30 am. About 9:20 Chris called and said he'd be there within 20min. Met him there and within 10 min's he figured what the problem was. Took aprox. an hour and heater was up & running. I believe Chris wants every one of his customers to have a very comfortable and pleasurable experiance.
Description of Work: Heater not working Chris found a terminal connection on gas valve broken and unite in need of service. Cleaned burner, primary control, fixed terminal connection at control valve, vacuumed out unite and turned heater on and made sure things were running normal.

We're very impressed with A-Team Heating. We called and spoke with Donia, a lovely person to talk to, who fit us into their schedule the same day. Chris and Michael found the problem in no time. Apparently, when a different furnace company previously replaced the motor for us (and not that long ago!), they neglected to tighten the set screw that holds the blower to the motor, and that resulted in the now damaged motor shaft and blower. To buy us more time before we have to replace the motor and blower again, they worked on making the damaged parts work a little longer. They bent the blower fins back into place. They re-positioned the blower wheel hub set screw on an unworn area of the motor shaft and re-tightened it. We asked about the need for a new furnace and heat pump as they are old and the heat pump always ices up in the winter. We are all electric here; there's no gas in our rural area yet. Chris explained that little has changed in electric furnace technology; new ones are not much different than old ones. He suggested that with a system tune up (and replacing the faulty heat pump sensor to prevent icing up) we should start saving money on the electric bill for heating. No one had ever told us the heat pump had a sensor problem if it was icing up all the time. Not being able to use the heat pump forces us to heat entirely with the electric furnace. Very expensive in an 3 story open floor plan! We'll be having them back to do the tune-up soon. Chris and Michael answered all our questions, educated us on our system, and made good suggestions for options down the line. They are exceptionally courteous, professional, and just plain nice people to deal with. We absolutely would recommend these folks!!!
Description of Work: Chris (owner) and Michael diagnosed a progressively louder banging noise in our 35 year old GE electric furnace. The blower ("squirrel cage") had loosened from the motor and was vibrating badly, and causing it to gouge a trough in the motor shaft and bend the blower fins. They bent the fins back, and re-positioned the blower wheel hub set screw on an unworn area of the motor shaft and re-tightened it in order to save us the expense of replacing the blower and motor for now.

I was very happy that they returned my call same day and scheduled a visit for the following day. They gave me a 3 hour time frame and a called approximately 1/2 an hour before coming (as stated when I scheduled the appointment) so I knew exactly when to expect him. Chris put covers on his shoes without being asked and I felt very comfortable having him in my home and around my children. Chris also humored my 3 year olds incessant questioning really well. He fixed my gas fireplace and showed me how to open it up so I could clean the inside. He was also very conscientious about leaving the area he worked exactly as he found it cleaning up dust and dirt from opening spaces that hadn't been serviced in ages. He also showed me how to operate the pilot light which I didn't know how to do. I had a lot of questions since I didn't know much about proper fireplace and furnace maintenance and he was very informative and detailed with his explanations. I highly recommend them and will definitely call them for my next service or any repair that I may need.
Description of Work: We had our furnace tuned up as well as a gas fireplace issue fixed.

My A/C developed a leak in 2009. I had a technician look at it 07/09 and all they did was do a visual exam saying they would have to come back to find the leak and recharged the system and charged me $261.00. The next year I had to have it recharged and re-exammed again in 10/10 with the same results and explainations with a $225.00 bill. This year I lucked out in that dispite the A/C did not work in May when I tryed it out, we did not need it until end of July when we started getting all the warm weather. At this time I went to Angie's list and found A-1Air Heating and Cooling. He also determined that my refrigerant had leaked out and performed a visual examed. He could not see a leak but he went futher and did a pressure check on both the inside and outside coils and explained each step of the way what he was doing and possible consequences were. He determined that the problem was in the outside coils. He than explained all my options from replacing the outside coils, replacing the outside unit, repairing the outside coils, to using leak sealant and the cost of each type of repair. We decided on using the leak sealant which he has been having great success with and he would come back in 3 weeks at no charge to check the pressure again. The total chage for the entire troubleshooting and installing of the leak sealant and trip charge was $425.00. When the technician came back 3 weeks later everything was working great. The top of the A/C was blowing hot air at the top, water was coming from the condensor, refrigerant pressure was up, temp was at 40, If I have any more work done on my A/C or furnace I will call up A-1 Air and I would most definitely refer them to anyone who requires their services.

All in all we were very pleased with the job A-Team did for us and after spending over 2 hours at our home, we believe the money spent was very reasonable. Chris also suggested a good company for us to have come address our mold issues and clean the ducts. We would highly recommend their company to anyone. Steve & Jackie
Description of Work: Chris examined , cleaned and tested every part of our furnace and heat pump. He discovered an installation error that was made when the system was initially installed back in Oct 2002; the cooling coils were not installed level and this caused the condensed moisture to drain off and towards the back of the system, not draining properly out the drain pipe for that purpose. This contributed to the growth of mold inside the furnace area and the return duct pipe which he alerted us to. This fact was not noticed by a previous HVAC company (the one who installed the system but had no record of their install) who did a PM service call two years ago. He also cleaned out the drain pipe installing a breather valve. Lastly, Chris thoroughly cleaned our heat pump, checked the coolant level/pressure and recommended we re-route our dryer vent outlet which was causing lint to build up on the outside. This would have been contributing to our higher electric bills and he assured us the we should begin to see them come down. Also, Chris noticed a couple of (visibly) worn parts that although were still functioning, would eventually go out and require a return service call and greater expense in inconvenience.

When I had an inspection done on my house before I bought it, the inspector found a burned wire in the disconnect box to the heat pump. He put in a temporary fix and told me to have HVAC service look at it. In the meantime, I was busy unpacking and forgot. When I realized during the recent warm weather that my heat pump wasn't cooling, I thought about calling a service rep, but hesitated because of a previous bad experience. Finally I remembered I had a home warranty contract and yesterday I requested service. Within an hour, I received a call from A Team Heating & Cooling, saying Chris will be in my neighborhood tomorrow (today), would I like him to come by. when he was finished? Yes! Chris came within the time frame specified and went to work. He looked at my heat pump that I said wasn't cooling. He said it wasn't running at all. ( So, when I was heating my house in May and June, I was using the electric furnace.) He asked me to flip the breaker in the house, and then he pulled the fuse cartridge from the disconnect box. Seeing signs of overload, he replaced the disconnect box with a new one, checking the wiring and coating the bare ends with anti-corrosive goo as he went. Then he inserted 2 new fuses of the correct size. He had me flip the breaker again, and the heat pump turned on. Then he hooked up some equipment to test the refrigerant pressure and let the heat pump run while he watched the gauges. Half an hour after he arrived he pronounced my heat pump healthy. Except, the amps between the unit, the fuses in the disconnect box, and the breaker in the house were consistent. He said he will be back next week with a gizmo ( my word) to step down the amps so the breaker will trip when it is supposed to...no charge. He also looked in the furnace and said, Good. While he was in there I checked the filter that I had cleaned only a few weeks before. Dirty! He went to his truck and got me a new one that he sold to me for half the normal retail price. And he gave me some advice on how to deflect the noise of the heat pump away from the house. Very nice young man. Hardworking, no nonsense. Knowledgeable and very efficient. Worked well while he politely answered my questions. Because of the home warranty contract, my cost was only $60 for the service call plus $10 for the furnace filter. But the invoice was for $245, which I would have gladly paid because it was half what I had been told it would cost just to get inside to find the supposed refrigerant leak, let alone fix it, and my heat pump is working great! It was already cooling the house by the time we finished the paperwork. I definitely will recommend this company to friends and family, and submit them for the recommended services list put out by the homeowners association of the manufactured home park I live in.
Description of Work: Checked overall condition of heat pump. Pulled the fuse cartridge in the disconnect box and noticed signs of overheating. Replaced the disconnect box with a new one. Put in two new fuses of the correct size. Checked the refrigerant pressure -- that I had been told by another company was low --and let it run for 10 minutes to make sure there was no leak. Checked the compatibility of the furnace. Sold me a new filter for half the normal retail price.

I called Chris after reading all the positive reviews and getting a referral from a friend. He came out within 30 minutes of my call since he was in the area. He diagnosed the problems and happened to have the parts that I needed in the van. I had a working fan and the house was cooling in less than an hour. The price was great and so was his professionalism. I would definitely call him again, and suggest others do the same. Thanks Chris!!!

Chris was great, he was at our house about 4 hours, however he only charged us for 2 hours. He didn't charge us for all the questions that we asked, which took a lot of his time. Chris also gave us a discount on the board that he replaced in the furnace. He was so good to us. Originally Chris came to our house to look at our Aprilaire air cleaner, there were problems with the electrostatic wires in the filter unit. My husband talked to him regarding our gas fireplace. Chris looked at it and determined it needed a new blower. He ordered a replacement Aprilaire filter unit for us under warrently and then he came back a couple of days later to install. After he installed the filter unit, he installed the new blower for the fireplace insert. He was going to install a used remote for the insert, but it didn't work they way he wanted it too. After talking to him regarding the remote, I decided to just go with the thermostat. He left and came back the following monday to clean the glass and paint the interior of the insert, at that time we had him look at the furnace. He had the computer board in his work van and was able to take care of that right away. Chris has a great attitude and is super easy to work for. He also seems to have a sensible understanding of people and how they feel about there homes. Chris saved us money and gave us valuable information, I would definitely call him again. All the work he did amount to a fee of $730 dollars.
Description of Work: Chris did so much for us while he serviced our furnace and air filter. First he replaced a large part of the air filtration system for no cost to us. In the process of making that change, he looked into our gas fireplace insert and took care of a bad blower, painted the interior, cleaned the glass front and installed a simple thermostat. We also asked Chris to look at some intermittent problems that we were having with the furnace. He determined the cause and replaced a computer board, he also tuned the blower on the furnace as well. He did all this work in 3 visits.

I felt very comforatable with the work that A-1 did on my furnace. They were persistant about getting to my home in order to give an estimate. The work was done within 2 days after I recieved the estimate. It took about 2.5 hours to complete which included a parts run. They were a pleasure to work with and I would recomend them as a reliable and responsible company.

We couldn't get our heater started, tried everything including draining the fuel line. Nothing would work. Called this guy, his wife was the one that answered the phone. She was really sweet over the phone, made my fiance really happy that he called. The guy showed up the same day and got it fixed in about an hour. He told us what had happened, explained how to fix it and actually let us come down to see what he had found inside the heater so we would know in the future. The guy was incredibly nice. Very friendly and outgoing. Even pointed out a corroding water pipe that he had noticed and explained how we could fix it with a few things from the hardware shop. Plus, even though our house was way dirty already and he was down in the basement with cement floors, he wore the little booty things. I would definitely suggest him for anybody else and we will be calling him for all of our heating maintenance needs from now on.

The very first time we used Ross, I had him come in and look over another job that a company told me the motor needed to be replaced, but I wanted a second opinion just to make sure. Ross agreed with the first estimate, but what I like about Ross is he went the extra step and found out the motor was under warranty, so we did not have to pay for the motor! Thanks Ross!

We also understand how important it is to balance a great price, with someone you can trust and depend on when you need them. Ross Mc Bride has now done several jobs for us since we found out about him via a referral from another investor. He is trustworthy, reliable, and his prices are great! Something that is tough to find in this day and age, and Kristi and I highly recommend his company. Sincerely Rob and Kristi Russell

A Team Heating and Cooling installed a new Coleman H.E. furnace to replace my 20 year old Lennox furnace that was finally breaking down. In searching for a furnace, I obtained for 2 bids from local Portland and Beaverton OR companies and a bid from A Team from Salem, which I was not familiar with at the time and did not believe I would consider seriously. I am sure glad I took their call and allowed them to bid. From the bid through the support of the product after installation, everything has been of the highest integrity I have ever experienced. First off their bid was the most competitive but more importantly honest. I was very meticulous about making a purchase for the home so related to the overall comfort should something go wrong, from a company I was not as familiar with and not within the immediate local area (Salem ~45 miles). I used the A Team bid to follow up with the other local companies. However after back and forth negotiation with them they finally met or slightly beat the bid from A Team; However none of them knew their product as well as A Team and none of them instilled the level of confidence that Chris did. It became increasingly apparent in discussions with the other companies their bids were less honest and the employees less knowledgeable of the product. Given the amount of negotiation I had with the others, it was a no brainer to select the company that put forth an honest bid at the outset and had the experience to support the product long term. The results were beyond impressive. The quality of work that A Team did with installation of the unit plus the related duct work was something I?ve never seen. The work was done by the owner of the company who clearly cares about his product, his company and his customer. Installation was clean, duct seals and piping were high quality, well sealed and clean. The heat balance in the home is significantly improved and. A Team?s continued service and support is exceptional. In an industry where there are a lot of competitors, you need to give A Team an opportunity to bid. Their quality and integrity will win hands down every time. Chris continues to service my furnace under the warranty program included with the product and each time his service is prompt and professional. I will go to A Team for my next heating and cooling need without soliciting future bids. Their integrity has won a long term loyal customer. Sincerely, Derek R. Thomas

Chris came and looked at the house, took measurements and worked up what the house's energy needs would be taking into account the size and age, windows and insulation. He presented several options and what I could expect form each. The installation was done in a day with no problems. He had to rearrange some ducting that we hadn't anticipated in the estimate but he included it without additional cost. He showed how to program the thermostat and change the furnace filter. They also helped me with the tax credit forms. Very professional and personable. The furnace itself is great; quiet and delivers toasty, warm air.

Owner came to give a quote in a timely manner. Owner is also the one who worked with the crew to perform the work. Knowlegeable, able to answer our questions and offer suggestions with out pressure for upsale. Always friendly and willing to answer questions even after a couple years when we had questions regarding a remodel job around the existing duct work. Great company to work with.

Our home is a 3700 Sq Ft 2 ? story and it keeps an even temperature throughout, it maintains 70 degrees even on the hottest days. We are very happy with Chris and the quality of work, and the end result. The price for the whole project was well within our budget and A Team went above and beyond in our view with a lot of extra stuff just to make our dream home great. Our mechanical room didn't lose any space because everything is up out of the way which was awesome from a guy?s point of view. The A Team was a referral from a friend in the Portland area where I travel to frequently for work. We were doing this project and the hvac part of the job was supposed to start in January so Chris said that it was typically the slow time of year and he would like to bid on the job. We are feeling very blessed that we came across A Team Heating. Thanks so much Chris and we think you are absolutely the best! Morgan Taber Benton City, WA 99320
Description of Work: A Team installed the heating and air in our new house that we built.
