Our Rheem furnace conked out early on a wintry Saturday morning just as I was leaving to catch a plane leaving June to deal with the cold. When I arrived at my destination I searched Angie?s List for an A rated repair service that could fix the problem and found several. One had an Angie?s list coupon for $29 that would cover the $89 diagnosis charge. I thought it was a good deal so I called. They were working on Saturday and I got through to a repairman who explained that they charged a flat rate for their repairs depending on the nature of the repair once the problem was diagnosed and confirmed that the coupon would defray the cost of the diagnosis. Once the diagnosis was made, we could opt to get it fixed or not. With that, I called Angies?s list, bought the coupon and called the company back to schedule a time. When I called back, I found out that I could only use the coupon on a week day and Wednesday was the earliest appointment. I explained that had I known that, I wouldn?t have bought the coupon and could they make it any earlier. We settled on Monday. However, unbeknownst to me, it turns out the repairman came out on Saturday, made the diagnosis and offered to fix it for $299. June tried calling me but was unable to reach me so she reluctantly went with the price even though she thought it was high. I was happy that they came by on Saturday and fixed the problem so I gave them excellent for service. To see if the price was in the ballpark, on Monday I called 3 more angie?s list repair shops and found one that would do the work for $89, one for $175, and one for $225. All included the part. Given the way the company chooses to charge for their services, it creates quite a dilemma. You?ve already invested in the diagnosis and then you need to make a decision without knowing what the competition charges. I would hope that the price was competitive but in this case it wasn?t.

Thank you for your feedback and review. But, I think it is extremely unfair considering all the extra work our technician did for you on a Saturday to get your furnace up and running.

Aire Serv contacted me promptly by email to arrange a date for the service, which I purchased at a reduced price through Angie. When I had a conflict on the arranged date, the office was nice about making another, even faster appointment. The technician called to let me know exactly when he would arrive after the previous job, which I appreciated. He arrived just when he promised. I don't think some of the ducts in my 1926 house had ever been cleaned. The technician found large, I mean large, chunks of plaster and other items dropped into the registers, along with the usual filth. I suppose I was naive to think that when the house was renovated, anything invisible like the ducts would have been cleaned. The technician also found that some ducts had dampers that were closed, told me where they were and opened them so I now receive heat and cooling from them. I really appreciated that and other information he provided about my system. At my request, I was quoted a price of $60 to clean my dryer duct, reduced since the technician was already on site. I am glad to have the lint build-up removed because it is a fire hazard. Even though I always clean the lint trap, lint tends to form a clump over time when warm, moist air in the vent reaches outside air. My heating system is now much quieter, which I'm sure is thanks to removal of the debris. All the work took 3 hours. I will say that the older, filthier vents emitted small particles of soot or dust in two areas. I don't think this could have been prevented. If you have really dirty vents, clean house after the service is done.
Description of Work: Cleaned my register covers and vacuumed/brushed out my heating ducts. Also gave the furnace a more thorough cleaning than provided with yearly HVAC system maintenance. At my request, also cleaned dryer vent for reduced rate of $60.

The technician was on time. He was knowledgeable, thorough, and professional. He took the furnace apart, cleaning and checking as he went. He checked the ducts to see if they needed cleaning also, and he answered my questions about installing a filter that would catch dust and allergens better. Months before, I had opted for this service through Angie's List and was charged, but the company evidently lost my records. Once I pointed that out on Angie's List, they responded quickly and well. I would use this company again.

Good Evening, I just saw your review this evening at 7:15pm. I drove into the office and looked through all of our Angie's List records and our customer data base (I searched your address and your name) with no success on locating your purchase. I will contact Angie's List first thing tomorrow morning in hopes of resolving this issue. Sincerely, Chris Rattray

The original diagnosis appeared to be correct the immediate issues and the furnace worked normally for a couple weeks. It began to have the same problem, but the original diagnosed cause (condensation collecting and not being cleared by the sump pump) is no longer an issue. The technician that came out the first time was very prompt, clear and had a no BS demeanor. I was very appreciative of that. I contacted Aire Serv and told them i had the same issue as before and they said they would send someone out for the fee of a call out, $89.95. Which is what I had previously purchased on the Big Deal for $29.95 in which the technician said it would be better for them to return once I rerouted the condensate line. I mentioned this to Kendra the office person and she said they had already fulfilled the service on the Big Deal, but the terms would be the same in the sense the $89.95 would be absorbed into the repair, if they were to repair the furnace. I told her the fault code was three flashing red lights which indicates the Pressure switch is stuck in the open position. and asked for the switch to be replaced. When the technicians came out they didn't bring a pressure switch instead they went through a complete diagnostic and couldn't find any issues, since the furnace was operating properly when they arrived. The furnace responded 'normally" and the problem could not be recreated, they did spend about 45 minutes doing their checks on the system. $118.90 invested and still no "action" towards a remedy. After they left and throughout the next day (Saturday) the furnace would not start on its own. I checked the fault code, it remained three red flahes. I called and left a voice mail on Saturday evening for them to purchase a new pressure switch and schedule the replacement. When I received the call back on Monday Kendra was reluctant to have a replacement switch purchased without another visit. I assured her the switch was the issue, but she wanted another service call to confirm, when I told her I had already spent $118.90 and several days without heat and I wanted the furnace fixed, she connected me with an internal technician that said these intermittent issues are difficult to diagnose and fix. I agreed, but told him I'm sure it was the switch, he agreed to order the switch and replace it. They did for a final fee of $146.20, complete bill $265.10 for a pressure switch replacement and some advice on the condensate drain setup. I've had the pressure switch replaced (4) previous times over the past (7) years, each time for the cost of $89.95. I'm not sure the system check and advice was worth the additional $175.10. To be fair, Kendra quoted me a pressure switch replacement price of $340.00 WOW! and after I expressed my displeasure with the whole issue she said she would be able to provide the repair for $200 off, since I have had them out twice already. The technicians were all very cordial and punctual and I understand the difficulty in diagnosing intermittent issues, but The same fault code was flashing each time and I disagree with needing to pay the $89.90 for the second check, since I hadn't really received anything for my Big deal purchase and the same fault was indicated from the beginning.
Description of Work: The first serviceman came out and identified an issue with the original setup on the furnace. He said the condensate collection and pump were incorrectly set up for our area(Portland, Or) I agreed and rerouted the condensate line to pump into a house drain. Big Deal cost $29.95. Two weeks later we had the same issue even after the rerouting of the condensate line. I payed for the call out assessment mentioning the Big Deal purchase and they said I could go back onto Angie's list to see if the offer was still available or pay the $89.95 for this visit. Which would be absorbed into the repair anyway. I was unable to go onto the website at the time, so I agreed to have them come out for the $89.95.

I'm sorry it took so long to properly diagnose your furnace. I believe you have a 90%+ model. These high efficient furnaces have 2 to 4 pressure switch's on them so we hate to guess at which one it is. It is a waste of your time and are's if we can't figure it out the first time. Hopefully you won't have to replace it ever again. Thanks for choosing us, Chris Rattray

We knew the A/C and furnace were on there last legs, but it's never a convenient time in February for the blower fan to finally die. We called these guys for a service call, and after a quick temporary fix, we asked for an estimate for the whole job, including moving the furnace to the garage. It was a complicated job to estimate, spec, and price, but he was very professional and helpful in our decision making. We just got heat back and couldn't be more happy with there work. A whole team came out to get it done as quickly as possible. They were responsive to my concerns along the way and went above and beyond to satisfy us.

I was very happy with them. They were very professional and completed the job as expected. They got us scheduled about a week after the Big Deal was purchased and they showed up on time.
Description of Work: I purchased a $317 Big Deal for whole house air duct system inspection, cleaning, and sanitizing (up to 2,000 sq ft). I chose to purchase additional items, but it was a very low pressure situation. They did a furnace tune up and dryer vent cleaning.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service and we should not have bought it until we paid for a vent inspection of all the vents. The man who came out was very polite, professional and knowledgeable. Some of our vents were in such bad shape that we should have had them repaired first, and then cleaned, because they were falling down so he could not clean a lot of them. The ones he could clean were great and I think it really improved the air quality in the home. He alerted me to several problems we have with the vents so that was good. Now we have a running list of things we need to fix. They came out to do the work about a week after I purchased the deal so they were really prompt. I think it was a fair price for that service. The quality of their service was really great and they were very responsive.

It started off rocky because there was a missed deadline on the original day that the service was supposed to be performed. All was forgiven because during the time we were having a bad winter snow storm. They re-scheduled for two days later and this time Jerime was prompt to call us within 30 minutes of his arrival, and he came at the earliest part of the 3 hour window. He was very professional and not pushy at all.

A salesman came to my house that day and took measurements to figure what size furnace I needed. The next day a technician come to my house to replace my furnace. Everyone was professional, respectful of my house, and knew what they were talking about when it came to heating and cooling.
Description of Work: I though that there was an electrical issue with my furnace but it turned out that there was hole in the heat exchange and the furnace was to big for my house. I had been meaning to have these things done for months, and when I saw the great deal they had going, I snatched it up. It could not have been easier! The technician gave me a heads up call and arrived right when scheduled, explained everything well, and did a thorough and organized job of cleaning all of the air ducts. It was great that everything was included in the price and nothing extra pushed. He was also super careful not to dirty anything in our house. Happy with the work done and the customer service!

The job went well!!! Don the technician, was very thorough and answered any and all questions we had. The appointment was for a gas furnace check-up. He discovered a part that will need to be replaced at some point, and when that time comes, we definitely will use Aire-Serv, and ask for Don to do the work.
