Robert showed up at our home. He was on time and was polite and professional. We paid an introductory $59 "check or or look see" just to ensure that our furnace was running properly. These provide good opportunities to ensure that all is operating properly and if not, to perform the necessary maintenance. Remember that word "necessary." At the end of the furnace eval, I was asked to take a "selfie" with Robert because they apparently hang pics at the office to show the faces of new or potential customers...this apparently helps to put the name to the face. Robert also asked if he could put up a yard sign, advertising that Aire Serv was here and provide some advertising. I don't have a problem with what Robert did...he was just following his company's directive, but he was here for service and although they "sell" their service, all this left a bad taste of "sales" big time over "service". Maybe I am the only one who feels this way, but it was gimmicky and rather tacky. I even called the office to confirm that this was proper procedure and a very polite woman indicated that all their service people do this. However, the real concern here was the evaluation itself of our furnace. I was told that we needed various repairs, that the unit was vibrating, a motor should be replaced and worst of all, that there was a dangerous gas leak. That was indicated by a small, cell phone looking device with a long prong protruding from the top of it. A red light at the end of that went on in the presence of gas. He showed me exactly where the leak was and indeed, the light lit up more than once. I was given estimates of repair for between $700 and $1,700 or so, and was also given the recommendation, based on the 17 year age of the furnace, to consider purchasing a new one at between $3,000 and $6,000 dollars. I was appreciative (though not super happy) of the news and was better educated to now move in the right direction....Yikes...but, if that's what is legitimately wrong with the furnace, then indeed, repairs or replacement look to be in order. In our home, we ave a rule that any item or repair over a certain dollar amount requires a second opinion. I mentioned this to Serv Aire when they called me as a follow up a few hours after Robert left...It was polite but pretty salesman-ish, asking me to schedule a time to have a representative come out to discuss various furnace purchasing options and furnace units. I again mentioned that this will be considered and that a second opinion is likely forthcoming. So...up to this point, all was good, polite and seemingly fair. I called 2 additional HVAC companies to come out the next day. Although we hated to spend the money, we paid $95.00 for one company and $90 for the next to check out the furnace in the same manner (thorough furnace check up/eval) as was done by Aire Serv. The first company that came out was NOT AT ALL in agreement with Aire Serv findings. No gas leak by their equipment and they were right that at no time was there any gas smell....Just minor vibrations which were fine and no need to replace any blower motor whatsoever. Hmmmm. That's a bit different. So, now we have 2 opposing opinions for these service calls. We were willing to call one more furnace company to do another service check/eval. Heck, spending $200 more dollars and finding the truth to determine if we really needed the recommended repairs or replacement was worth it to us. The last company came out toward the end of the afternoon and mirrored exactly what the previous company told me. Not repairs are necessary and certainly NO replacement is necessary at this time. That's disturbing. I called Aire Serv to politely tell them of my findings and to let them know that that was disturbing behavior and that I will be writing/contacting Angie's about this. I spoke to a "manager" who got a little excited about the topic and pretty much fell back into a semantic argument...that these were ONLY recommendations, that I wasn't told I had to do this or that and that I still had options of my choosing....well, no kidding. I was also told by him that many people, based on his experience, suffer product failures sometime in the future and although it's certainly not their fault, and I agree, the customer is upset that things are failing eventually. He told me it is best to list items on the list that "might need to be replaced to not inconvenience" the customer in the future, or something to that effect. Based on that logic, I might replace my car engine (it's 6 years old), my tires (half the wear is gone) and my headlights due to possible failure because they are not as bright as when new. He mentioned that he would be wiling to come out/have someone come out and check things and also verify his devices are calibrated and working perfectly and even directly compare them to the others I had check the furnace. Ah, no. I have spent too much time already with this and I am done. More than done. In the end, are they guilty of lying, misrepresentation of wrongdoing? No, for I believe that one is innocent until proven guilty. I do find that supposed gas leak peculiar. I just know my experience and how their salesman-y behavior made me feel. Either way, my feeling is that there was just a little too much salesmanship here, with the pics, the lawn sign, the talk of extended service/maintenance contracts, etc. My personal experience with this company and indeed, it may not be yours at all, was that I just don't trust them. As in ALL buying situations, certainly not just specifically this one, buyer beware.

The friendly service man arrived on time, spent a considerable time on service call, then came to tell me that I needed some repairs (about $1000 worth), but recommended against service, but purchase of new furnace. He showed me the options available - too many - but was very helpful explaining the differences. I said I would consider. He said, as he left, that he couldn't promise that the furnace (which had been working fine before, from my viewpoint) would work after he left the house. He was correct! It didn't work at all! The next day, I had another furnace salesman give me an estimate, but he checked and said that the furnace had not been turned back on by the prior service person! It worked fine! I do not disagree that the 19-year old furnace probably needed replacement and I have had it done (for less money, but it is hard to compare different brands and models), but it was horrible that I was left for a day or so without heat because the furnace was not turned on. I couldn't go with this company because of this error. I did have another furnace installed within three days and have been happy since.

The guy was arrogant and my husband asked they put a wire protector on to protect it from animals chewing though it as we had an issue before with that. It was ready for him and it was a simple thing he slides on the wire before permanently attaching it to the unit and he refused said nothing will chew through this ... in a couple months our unit stopped working because well as expected a squirrel or something chewed through the wire. We called to complain and were told well we are not responsible for squirrels and the guy didn't note anywhere that we asked him to do anything so NO WARRANTY!!! Don't waste your money go to a business that stands by their service!

He spent a lot of time working on my furnace trying to get it working like it should unfortunately there is a problem with the electronics and because I have a home warranty he said it would be best to use that as the final cost would be $800+ and it should be covered under warranty. He did give a very detailed invoice showing what is wrong. I did tell the Home warranty people what and who has looked at it but they insisted they send someone else to look at it.

The technician performed a very thorough job in cleaning and tune up of our furnace. But after the job was finished, he brought in a coworker from his company and tried to convince us to buy a new furnace from them since ours is very old, though still working. His coworker even tried to scare us with possible cracking of the unit and leaking of carbon monoxide. We then called the gas company and they sent a professional to check over our system one more time and made sure that everything is working well in safe condition. The gas company professional was very honest and told us that we really do not need any new furnace for another couple of years!

The best service I have ever had. He even went out of his way to help create a guard to hold down the filter; my drill bit was too dull to drill through a piece of metal, he knows how to use the dremel tool to sharpen the drill bit and it works great (save me a trip to Home Depot). I would definitely recommend his service to anyone.

We bought a furnace tune up for a special price on Angie list because we just purchased our house this summer and didn't know when it was last serviced. Unfortunately when they came out, no services performed because tech said the furnace was unsafe and old, and that it needed replacing asap. First, he said the fan was not running at all which made no sense because it's audible when it is on and we can feel the air blowing, heating the house well. So I challenged him on that politely, but he basically told me that it was all In my head and it was flat out broken. He also went so far as to turn off the breaker saying it was a fire hazard to keep it running. He was going to have their sales department contact us but we have a home warranty and contacted them instead. One of the home warranty contractors came out the next day and said there was nothing unsafe about it and no repairs or replacement needed at this time. In retrospect it is clear they only ruin the Angie list special to drum up new business and scare people into buying services they don't really need. I will never recommend them to anyone. Beware!

Servicer did an excellent job, pointed out a couple of things we could do to improve the function of the system on our own, and gave us a list of bid prices for possible upgrades to the control system (thermostat). Would certainly use them again if we have problems or questions which we cannot answer on our own.
