General Fix-It

Handyman Services, Plumbing, Electrical,

About us

I am a fully licensed Residential Contractor. That said, I've chosen to keep my business small and market myself as a Handyman. Unlike your typical handyman or contractor -- I carry a Specialty License that allows me to "legally" work on minor Electrical and Plumbing issues. Things like: lighting, ceiling fans, switches, outlets, appliances, disposals, toilets, sinks, faucets, etc... There are less than 150 of us in the state. I have over 20 years experience in both residential and commercial construction; so I didn't just decide I needed a way to make some money, grab a couple wrenches and screwdrivers thinking I could "fix" things; and start calling myself a handyman. I know code and construction practices, so there is no jerry-rigging going on here (I know that "duct tape" can be used on anything BUT duct work). I'll talk your ear off if you let me, but you'll be well informed about what I am doing and why. I pride myself on maintaining communication with my clients. I'm conscientious, fair, honest, reliable, and take pride in my work. (Yes, I was a Boy Scout – and I'm a retired military officer too). If I can't take care of what you need to have done, or feel you'd be better served by a specific trade specialist; I have developed a professional business relationship with individuals in almost every specialty out there. Individuals I consider to be the best at what they do - be it roofers, plumbers, drywall'ers, painters, masons, electricians, or tile-setters. With me, it's not all about the money, but making sure the customer is spending their money wisely. I know my limits and won't take a job if I feel you'd get a better price or a better result from a specialist. I want you to be satisfied so you'll call me back for your next project and refer me to your friends and neighbors. I'd rather have one person call me 100 times, than 100 people call me one time.

Keith was able to get the parts quickly, and finished the job in a timely manner. He was able to give me a very close estimate in advance which was helpful to me for budgeting purposes. The final price was a tiny bit less than estimated.

Keith was able to diagnose and repair the problem quickly. He took the time to explain why the problem occurred and how the repair would solve it.

Bought an appliance from Lowes. They contract this company to do installation. Keith came out, said we needed an electrician to come and rewire due to wiring not being up to code. He recommended his friend Andres Vialpando. Ok fine and dandy. Purchased early February. Contacted Andres, he flaked on us twice. Finally got a hold of the guy and he came out March 4th, apt was for 10am-12pm, guy shows up at 2pm and does not leave till 11:15 PM. Finally got dishwasher installed yesterday March 8th after Keith had to fix the wall behind where dishwasher was to be installed, which cost us more money. Andres was supposed to have been here between 12pm-2pm today and didn't notify us till 4pm to come finish his job and get paid! Job is not done. This experience has been a comeplete nightmare. Lack of communication, lack of professionalism and lack of time management. If you're going to be late to your next job, the professional thing to do is call during the apt time made. Customers have busy schedules as well. Keith was very professional, however, next time we will hire an active licensed Electrician.

Very well, in fact, he told me I could return the faucet I had purchased as my old one had a lifetime warranty and all I had to do was go to their website and choose one of the three that were offered. That saved me the price of a new faucet.

After reading my first AndgiesList review, Keith called me today (Sunday) to scream at me and berate me for the message I left him for not contacting me to re-schedule the job he initially errantly estimated. He left after his second attempt to do the job without properly re-hooking up my dining room light because he came out without the proper brace and doubled the price. He called me a bully because, yes, I was upset that he did not call to set up his third visit when I asked him to. My wife has terminal cancer and a dark dining room was depressing for her. He accused me of berating him and calling him names. Obviously that kind of behavior is perfectly acceptable because that is exactly what he was doing to me. He must have read the review and showed his true character with this call. Isn't it curious how bullies are so quick to call others a bully?
Description of Work: Called me and angrily shouted at me.

He showed up early and sized the installation of my ceiling fan. He said it would cost $140 but he did not have the proper brace and would return the following week with the proper brace. When he returned he found that the brace he thought he needed was indeed the wrong one and after looking at it in more detail he told me he needed yet a bigger brace and the installation would cost twice as much, now $240. When he left he replaced the old fixture and we found out later that evening it did not work. No lights in the dining room now. His doubling the price meant I had to wait another month to afford the install and asked that he call back on Sept 16 when I could afford the new price. He did not call so I had to call and leave a message asking him what happened and that we had no light in the dining room. I have yet to have no response. He cowardly dodged the difficult task and walked away. I believe the job was too difficult for him and he was not man enough to admit it. So now we are left hanging and would recommend to everyone to beware of this man and avoid him at all costs. Not Reputable!
Description of Work: He was supposed to install a new light fixture in the dining room which had a fan.

Keith came to my home a few weeks prior to doing the actual work in order to look over exactly what I wanted done, which I welcomed and for which he did not charge me for doing. He was thorough in his inspection of everything I wanted to have done. When he returned on a later date to do the work, he arrived well prepared and brought with him a huge assortment of tools. He worked quickly and efficiently, and did an excellent job in every way. Keith is friendly, helpful, and is a very skillful handyman. I highly recommend General Fix-It.
Description of Work: Keith spent four hours at my house doing various things, such as switching out two light fixtures with replacements, installing a curtain rod and hanging a valance in my laundry room, replacing burned-out light bulbs in various locations, replacing door knobs, and several other things I needed to have done. I had purchased some items as replacements for those that existed, and Keith pointed out why a couple of them wouldn't work out as I expected. He went online and sent me an email with a link to those products that would work out well, and which I ordered on Amazon.

Initial call was next day after Lowes order. Appt was for 4 days later, between 2-3pm. General Fix-it called about that time and said he was running late, and would be here between 4-5pm. At 5:30pm, he called and said he was ready to come. That time was not good for us, so canceled that appt and General Fix-it said he would call Sunday late afternoon to make another appt which he did. That appt was for the following Wed between 9 and 10am which he met. Went through appt, all sounded good. We got a call the next day from Lowes and agreed to go forward, went in and paid for the Range. At this time we waited for a call from General Fix-it to arrange Range delivery and installation. Sunday came, the day General Fix-it said he called to schedule his work for the next week. We were going to be gone in the evening so I called General Fix-it, left information that installation could be done Tuesday through Thursday of that week, that Lowes had indicated he would deliver and install the range and I mentioned I had ordered a Range Power Cord as well and want to be sure he got that for his delivery. General Fix-it left voicemail the next day that he didn't understand my call. I called General Fix-it again and explained again about the delivery of the Range and Power Cord. That was the last contact I had General Fix-it. By Thursday it was clear that General Fix-it was not going to call. So I decided to cancel the installation through Lowes, have Lowes deliver the Range and I did the cabinetry adjustments and installation myself.
Description of Work: General Fix-it was assigned by Lowes to do a Cooking Range Installation evaluation and estimate. Range was to replace current unit and the opening in the kitchen cabinet needed carpentry for the new range to fit. General Fix-it called and made appt review installation.

I own a rental property in Douglas County and found Keith through Angie's list after my tenants reported some ongoing issues. He was incredibly responsive, got out and repaired the problems quickly and efficiently. I've called on him several more times since then and trust him to recommend other service providers to me. It's nice to have a handyman to count on when my tenants report issues with the property since I live out of state.
Description of Work: The roof of my rental property was leaking, and there were a few minor problems that needed fixing (backdoor was sticking, minor plumbing issue), that my tenants told me about all at once.

He showed up when he said he would. He looked at the three jobs and discussed what he thought the problems might be and what would need to be done. Because of his suggestion I ran into to town to exchange the faucet unit I had purchased for the kitchen, while he worked on the bathroom faucet. He had the bathroom done and the kitchen area ready for the setting in of the new faucet when I returned. The installation when quickly, cleanly and worked perfectly. He then worked on the bedroom fan which we had installed ourselves and found the problem with its wiring that was making it bypass the light switch. He quickly fixed the wiring, explaining what the problem had been, and put the fan unit back together. He was professional, pleasant, efficient and very clean. I would definitely recommend him and would use him again without question.
Description of Work: Replaced kitchen faucet and sprayer, Removed instant hot water unit. Unclogged bathroom sink faucet that had buildup in line preventing cold water from working. Rewired bedroom fan and light so that it was controlled by light switch as well as by remote.

Keith arrived punctually in a clean uniform with his name and the name of his company embroidered on the pockets. He was well prepared with basic tools on his belt as well as a small, powerful flashlight. I immediately liked him and got the feeling he was competent and knew his stuff. His license is in general contracting, but I hired him to pull a toilet and replace the wax ring because he came up on Angie's "plumbing" list. I also wanted to see if he could give me some insight into some of the other issues that had come up on a house inspection before we purchased our home. He discovered that the leak around the toilet was actually just a loose tank, something both I and the inspector had missed! Keith tightened the tank bolts and the problem was solved. I asked him to look over some of the other things on my list and he gave me some excellent suggestions, spending over an hour in the process. He only charged $38 for the call out, although his rate is $50/hour. I am going to be using him on some electrical work, too, which may require the help of his electrician colleague. Unlike some handymen, who think they know everything, Keith does not hesitate to get another professional in on the job when required, and he has a number of people he can call if it is something he does not or cannot handle by himself. For example, he referred me to an excellent tile man for a couple little jobs. I recommend "General" Fix-It and Keith Kuenzig for any job from small to large. You will not be disappointed.

He was punctual and very professional. He is licensed. He was believable and didn't make more problems then out of what he had to do. It was less to have him install my dishwasher from Sears then Sears itself and he did a really good job.
