They are very good. They are responsive and they are on time. They explained the proposal. We had a lot of discussion about what exactly to do. We get a lot of rain and he thought the pin pile would be better. I didn't get a clearly itemized proposal. I think the price is comparable to others. They were here a few days.
Description of Work: They installed a pin pile barricade to stabilize a hill. This was a steep hill so they had to put down pin piles and then wire. Then they filled it with rock behind the wire. They fixed the drainage system on the hill. They put in PVC pipe to stabilize.

They were very very nice. They returned my phone call within a day and were out the next day. They were terrific people, but the price was too high so we decided not to go with this company. If the prices were lower, we would have gone with them, we felt good about them, and if we hadn't found another company who we felt good about, we probably would have gone back to them. They seemed to be very thorough. I did not have to ask to ascertain that all of the necessary work was going to be done. Their business practice seems to be to automatically do everything properly the first time.

They covered an old patio and steps that were built of railroad ties with concrete, it is beautiful, but we did have some issues trying to match up a transition from the old concrete and new concrete, but that was about it. This company was not the cheapest but you get what you pay for, and they did a great job.

Perfect! I got 5 bids and they all were about the same in price. What made The Wall stand out was their professional behavior. Showed up on time, prepared to give good ideas/advice without trying to talk us into anything, had a very solid contract that protected us and them. Their website had good examples. The bid person Frank was very knowledgeable. Then when it was time to do the work the guys were just great. They showed up when they said. They finished when the said they would. They cleaned up after themselves so there was no mess everywhere and they worked steadily, focused and seemed to be trying to give me the best Patio they could. It turned out just beautiful!

I have lived in this house for about six years. The front was the last area to be remodeled and it needed it! The ground had a significant slope and despite some of my best efforts I was never able to satisfactorily landscape it. When I decided to put up a retaining wall I checked in with Angie's List. One of the referrals was The Wall. I called and soon had a representative out to take a look and give me prices and suggestions. We reached an agreement but I was going to be out of the country for a few weeks. They arranged work to begin when I returned. A crew came out on the appointed day and began the job of transforming my front yard. They arrived each morning by eight o'clock ready to work. They put up a shelter and worked through the rain. Each day they cleaned up after themselves. They were respectful of me and my neighbors. I have received many compliments on the wall and almost as many about the crew.
Description of Work: A crew from The Wall built a retaining wall across the front and up the side of my property. The wall itself is a thing of beauty. The front is Gorge Stone and the support is recycled concrete. The yard, a sloper that was almost impossible to landscape, is now contained, level and on its way to being a garden.

We did not expect to hear from them until sometime in October. Due to a streak of really bad weather which put them behind it was a bit longer than that. A phone call notification of the delay would have been a good thing as we were nervous based on previous experience with other contractors. Anyway the crew showed up on a Thursday morning, got started immediately and worked through Friday to complete the job. On top of that they always took time to answer our questions. We actually were leaving town on Friday and so they were still working Friday when we left. When we returned on Sunday we had a sidewalk. Due to cold weather they left the forms on for several extra days. They came back, removed the forms, cleaned up extra dirt, smoothed out the driveway gravel and generally cleaned up everything. It has since rained a lot and the water runs off the sidewalk great. We really like our sidewalk.
Description of Work: We requested estimates from several companies. The Wall wasn't the lowest bid but with the best estimate description and a good rating on Angie's List. Also, they are located in our area which was a plus. The work was to install a sidewalk along the front of our house and along the driveway to just short of the street. The work included excavation, gravel bed compacted, rebar, tooled control joints @ 5' o/c approx, broom finish, pitched so water runs away from house and yard, clean up & hauled away debris from project. They completed the installation in 2 days and came back several days later to remove the forms and cleanup the project site. We are totally satisfied with the work and would hire them again. The estimator, Frank Berrong, showed up on time 8/15/07. He had plenty of time to spend with us and answered all our questions. He communicated clearly what our expectations could be, when we should be hearing from the crew leader, and how long the project would take, etc.

Everyone we dealt with was very professional and obviously wanted to make sure we were happy. IT was a big job and every day the site was cleaned up before the workers left. Our sidewalk has never looked so good. After they were finished, we noticed a couple of areas on the wall that were not done correctly. The supervisor had a crew back to fix the errors in less than 30 minutes. I wish I would have seen the Angie's List coupon earlier, I could have saved another $700.

We are very pleased with the outcome. The new wall not only looks good but seems very solid as well. Communication was good at all times ensuring that things turned out as we expected. The crew were very skilled and took a great deal of trouble cleaning our old stones and fitting them into the wall to form nice decorative features. The technical features of the wall are good too: drainage was well considered, the wall is straight and level. I like that this company works with recycled materials and was geared to using the perfectly good stone we already had on site. They are not cheap but they do very nice work and guarantee it for 5 years. We did not regret going with their higher bid.
Description of Work: Two L-shaped stone retaining walls of total length approximately 100 feet and a height of 2.5 feet. Our old dry stack wall was removed and the new wall was built using our own stone. In the new wall the stone was mortared in place rather than dry stacked. The job took approximately two weeks to complete with the size of the crew varying from day to day. Due to the duration of the job the company had a Porta-potty delivered before the work commenced. The job started exactly as scheduled. It took a bit longer to complete than predicted but this did not alter the price.

The work went extremely well. Frank, their estimator, showed up right on time and gave me an estimate, via Email, later in the day. The estimate was at the high end of what I had expected. The work was scheduled for about 2 weeks out. However, it took a couple of extra days due to another job taking a little longer than expected. The day the job was to begin Ron and David showed up right on time and went over what they were going to do and then got right to work. They ended up installing one more step than originally expected due to having to move the stairs a little further from the tree than had been expected. The work turned out better than I had thought possible and matches the other steps amazingly well. While there they also fixed a few places that needed some mortar in a rock wall at no extra cost. I asked them for a bid on some additional work and I will have them do this work sometime in the near future.
Description of Work: I had them remove and repair 6 steps, which were about 10-15 feet in length and 3 feet wide due to root damage from an adjacent redwood tree. The existing steps were made out of recycled concrete sidewalk material.

Most projects by any contractor don't quite come out as expected, or have some problems or disappointments along the way. The important thing is how these issues are handled. Nothing is more important to The Wall than customer satisfaction. If I mentioned that I was disappointed is a particular result, they always offered to rework it. I was repeatedly asked if I was happy as each element of the project was in process and done. I had them re-do or tweak several things. I am fussy and catch most of the little details, so I am not easy to work with. Not one employee complained. They remained cheerful and reworked whatever I wanted. This company even took more jobs with me. I feel like I have made new friends and will miss them. The final results always functioned perfectly and were beautiful. I highly recommend them!
Description of Work: They installed a basalt path, where a gravel path had been and replace it with crushed rock and basalt stepping stones. A previously veneered concrete wall was stripped and a cinder block wall was added. Then the entire wall was covered in a new river rock veneer. The two pressure treated deck supports were also covered with the same veneer. All surfaces were prepped to ensure adhesion of the veneer. They even mixed in some real rock to perfect the final result. The brick risers on our concrete steps started to separate, so they removed them and reattached them better than they were before. They even trimmed some of the bricks to make all of them flush with the top of the walk. A previous poured concrete walkway had a steep section. When I told them I wasn't happy, they didn't hesitate to remove and re-pour the section to my satisfaction at no charge.

OUR PROJECT WAS TOO BIG TO POUR ALL THE CONCRETE AT ONCE, SO THE PATIO WAS DONE 1ST. THE COLOR WAS ADDED TO THE CEMENT AT OUR HOUSE. I WAS THE COLOR DIDN'T LOOK QUITE RIGHT TO ME, BUT I WAS ASSURED IT WAS CORRECT & WOULD DRY DIFFERENTLY. WHEN THE SIDEWALK WAS POURED THE COLORANT WAS ADDED AT THE CEMENT PLANT. WHEN IT CAME OUT OF THE TRUCK A PROBLEM WAS OBVIOUS; IT WAS A DIFFERENT COLOR. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT BOTH POURS WERE IN FACT THE SAME COLOR. THE BAGS OF COLORANT ADDED AT OUR HOME MUST HAVE BEEN MISLABLED. THE NEXT DAY THEY CONTACTED THE DISTRIBUTOR WHO CAME OUT 1 DAY LATER. THE DAY AFTER THAT THEY STARTED SAWING UP OUR PATIO, AND 3 DAYS LATER THEY WERE PREPPING TO REPOUR. WITHIN 1 WEEK WE HAD A NEW PATIO WITHOUT ANY HASSEL TO US. THE FINISH WORK ON THE 1ST PATIO WAS BEAUTIFUL. THE ENTIRE SURFACE INCLUDING THE FACE HAD BEEN HAND SWIRLED INSTEAD OF BRUSHED. THEY ALSO PUT A CURB-LIKE TRIM ON IT. I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT REDOING IT, BUT TO MY SURPRISE, THE 2ND ONE WAS EVEN BETTER.
Description of Work: REMOVE AGGREGATE CONCRETE SIDEWALK, STEPS, & PATIO. RAISE A PORTION OF THE SIDEWALK TO REDUCE THE GRADE. REPLACE WITH COLORED CONCRETE ON A BED OF GRAVEL AND REINFORCED WITH REBAR. REDUCE THE HEIGHT OF EACH STEP BY ADDING A STEP.

THE RESULTING WALL IS GOOD, BUT NOT GREAT. THE BRICK TOPPER WAS INSTALLED WITH MORTAR THAT WAS EXPECTED TO MATCH THE EXISTING MORTAR ON THE BRICK ON THE HOUSE. DUE TO EFFLOURESCENCE, THE MORTAR IS NOW WHITE...NO WHERE NEAR THE GREY THAT WE EXPECTED, ASKED FOR, AND WERE PROMISED. THE WALL, MADE SOME HALF-HEARTED ATTEMPTS TO HELP, BUT THE RESULTS HAVE NOT BEEN SATISFACTORY. ALSO, WHILE THEY INSTALLED THE WALL AS WE CONTRACTED, I WOULD HAVE APPRECIATED MORE HELP IN THE DESIGN PHASE...I FELT THAT, AS AN INEXPERIENCED HOMEOWNER, THEY SHOULD HAVE GUIDED ME A BIT MORE. OUR WALL LOOKS GOOD, BUT HAS AN UNUSUAL FEATURE AND APPEARANCE THAT I FEEL THEY COULD HAVE GUIDED US AWAY FROM. ALSO, AN INSTALLED LANDSCAPE LIGHT WAS BROKEN BY THE WORKERS (AND NOT NOTICED BY US UNTIL LATER). WE DID NOT PURSUE THIS ISSUE.

SMALL COMPANY, EXCELLENT TO WORK WITH. THEY ARE NOT THE CHEAPEST, BUT DEFINITELY WORTH IT. CUSTOMER SATISFACTION IS A VERY HIGH PRIORITY FOR THEM. THEY KEEP THEIR EMPLOYEES HAPPY SO MOST OF THEM HAVE BEEN WITH THE COMPANY FOR MANY YEARS. ALL THE EMPLOYEES ARE ASSIGNED JOBS ACCORDING TO THEIR LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE, SO YOU GET A QUALITY PRODUCT. SEVERAL STYLES TO CHOOSE FROM INCLUDING COTTAGE STONE. NOTE: THEY WILL DO WHATEVER THEY CAN TO MAKE YOU HAPPY, BUT MANY OF THEIR EMPLOYEES HAVE A TYPICAL CONTRACTORS MENTALITY, SO I RECOMMEND KEEPING AN EYE ON THE PROJECT. THEY CAN'T FIX A PROBLEM IF YOU DON'T NOTICE IT, AND IF YOU WAIT UNTIL THE PROJECT IS COMPLETED THERE MAY BE NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE. I HAD A PROBLEM WITH SOME OF MY PLANTS GETTING STEPPED ON, EVEN AFTER POINTING OUT THE PLANT AND REQUESTING THEY BE CAREFUL. I RECOMMEND MOVING ANY PLANT THAT YOU CAN TO A SAFE LOCATION, AND COVERING SMALL PLANTS WITH SOME FORM OF PROTECTION. THE COMPANY DID OFFER TO REPLACE ANY DAMAGED PLANT.
Description of Work: REMOVED RAILROAD TIE RETAINING WALLS & REPLACED WITH BASALT ROCK. REPAIRED COTTAGE STONE WALL & STEPS. CREATED A GRAVEL PAD FOR MY SHED AND A GRAVEL PATH TO THE SHED WITH A RECYCLED CONCRETE RETAINING WALL. THEY ALSO DID CONCRETE JOBS FOR ME. THAT INFORMATION CAN BE FOUND UNDER THE CONCRETE CATEGORY.
