I bought a vacuum with which I'm not happy. The same magazine noted above rated the Simplicity vacuum I purchased as "Meh".
Description of Work: Salesman outright lied during his high pressure sales. He told me Panasonic no longer made vacuums though Loew's sells them and they were named as the top vacuum the following month by a Consumer Reports magazine. He told me I couldn't get a bagged vacuum anywhere other than a vacuum store.

I have been using my Miele canister vacuum for almost 2 months now and am thoroughly satisfied with it. This was a great purchase. I bought an extended service agreement and feel confident that Stark's will take care of any issue that may arise.
Description of Work: I visited the Stark's location on NE Grand to purchase a vacuum cleaner for my apartment. I moved from a studio to a 2-bedroom and needed a quality vacuum to replace the upright model that was a hand-me-down from a friend. I had done a little research and had in mind to by a canister vacuum. I was shown a couple of models, varying in price, and given thorough demonstrations. The salesman, Bryan, was very helpful. While showing me some higher-end models, I did not feel pressured to purchase more than I needed. More importantly, I felt supported in my final choice and was given some additional pointers on care and use. The entire experience took 20 minutes and was professional and pleasant.

My daughter said her vacuum wasn't working. I couldn't figure out the problem so I took it in to the repair folks at Starks. The rest of the story is above.
Description of Work: I have been coming her for vacuums and vacuum repairs for over 35 years!! This last visit was because I couldn't get my daughter's used Royal vacuum to work. It was filthy and they cleaned out the sweeper part for me. Then, Terry figured out quickly that the belt had come off, and graciously and patiently showed me how to put it back on myself (if it should happen again) using a special little plastic tool (that was the $4 cost). He showed me, and then let me draw a picture, and let me practice. This is the kind of old-fashioned service that is rare these days. Most people and repair facilities charge you BEFORE they do anything........... these folks are SO helpful whether you are making a big purchase or a small purchase or NO purchase.

Excellent. I called Stark's to ask about house calls and the girl on the phone explained that she would have Tony call me for scheduling and pricing. Within a few hours Tony called and explained it was flat fee pricing of $97 plus tax. He further stated that Wallace Roberto was the technician and would give the whole system a thorough review. Wallace showed up on time and carefully entered the house wearing protective footwear and didn't mind my puppy who was more than interested in "helping". Wallace first examined the hose and determined that it had a partial blockage as well as a small leak which he quickly addressed and corrected the issues. Next he looked at the wall outlets and they tested at 90 lbs of suction pressure. I showed him the main unit and he proceeded to clean the new filter I purchased a month ago. Then he reached up inside the unit and cleaned the screens up inside that you cannot see and pulled off lint and junk. Then he put it all back together. Then he went back and re-tested the outlets and found that he improved the performance from 90 lbs of suction to 105 lbs of suction!!! That's a 17% increase!!! Outstanding!! I would highly recommend Wallace and Stark's Vacuums for this type of service!

At the time of purchase, we were told that they would match it if we found a lower price. I found a couple of places on line that had lower prices. The salesman then said the on-line stores were not authorized dealers. A manager from the store was supposed to call to follow up on our complaint, and never did. There is a more than $130 difference between Stark's price and the on-line dealer.

The payment was never discussed. Because I did the job through my work, they needed a check from them and I did not know that until I went to pick up the carpet cleaner. There was just some miscommunication. I was happy that they were able to do the repair on such an expensive machine, and not a lot of places in the area were willing to do the work. I would use them again in the future and would recommend them to others.

We used our Miele vacuum cleaner for construction cleanup so it needed an overhaul afterwards. Also, we had lost the corner brush. Stark's on Grand did the work. The salesperson was creepy and gave us a bad feeling about the work, but in fact they did a fine job. It was delayed somewhat because they had to order a part they didn't have. The work was good and they also let us borrow a loaner machine while ours was in their shop.

Service counter employee was polite, and agreed that the pricing was ridiculous, but was unable to help. Given how easy the job turned out to be, I would think they could offer such a service cheaply on location. Why wouldn't such a huge store have a service area? Next time I need vacuum repair, I will look for someone who might be more accommodating.
Description of Work: Estimate to unclog vacuum was $50 with additional tune-up and cleaning service or $30 without. Also, it would need to be ''sent out'' and be unavailable for several days. Since our vacuum was only $90 brand new, it seemed silly to spend so much on a job that seemed so simple. We ended up doing it ourselves at home in 5 minutes, even without the right tool.
