Steve was recommended by a friend so we called him to provide an estimate for a bathroom remodel. He was prompt in responding and was very thorough in his questions and measurements regarding the project. Steve sent us the estimate in a timely manner. Ultimately we decided that the timing wasn't quite right for us, and our budget did not allow for us to hire Steve. That's on us, not him. I would definitely call him again for another potential project when we can afford a little more.

From our very first meeting with Steve and Crystal (designer from Pacific NW Cabinetry), we were sure our kitchen remodel would be exactly what we wanted. There was no "mystery" regarding price, schedule and attention to detail. Steve and his crew were very easy to work with. Their skill and workmanship were outstanding. In fact, we left on a trip while they worked. They stayed on schedule to the day. We highly recommend Spectrum Homes!
Description of Work: Spectrum Homes (Steve Amick, Contractor) did a complete remodel of the kitchen and pantry in our 1914 home, which included new cabinets (Pacific NE Cabinetry), electrical, plumbing, tile, paint, etc. Installation of appliances, farm sink, disposal and lighting.

I didn't have them do any work; I am not a customer that they are seem to be willing to work.
Description of Work: The provider contacted me by telephone; after discussing my project, she asked how much I wanted to spend. When the amount I stated was less than what 'was covered by their overhead costs,' the call was ended as they apparantly only work with people willing to spend 40-60k on a kitchen remodel.

Response from SPECTRUM HOMES INC
The cost of remodeling a kitchen varies depending on the materials selected and the scope of work. We have found that for a complete kitchen remodel our clients spend from $35,000 to $65,000. We provide a detailed firm price quotation prior to signing a contract. We believe a client should be comfortable with the price and not experience costly change orders. This potential client wanted to completely strip his kitchen, remove a wall to expand the size of his kitchen and increase the number of cabinets. He wanted to spend between $10,000-$15,000 including the cost of appliances and a tile floor. He was adamant that he was not interested in spending any more than $15,000. This is a complicated project and unfortunately the materials and labor cannot be purchased for the budget [removed member name] was proposing.

Every member of Steve?s team was courteous, efficient, and personable. Steve was accommodating, easy to work with and composed under the stress that naturally comes with a kitchen remodel. He did an excellent job of itemizing the tasks, providing information about the materials and procedures, and scheduling the project. Even with an unexpected setback created by a need to install a foundational support, and a delayed inspection which was beyond the contractor?s control, Spectrum Homes came in on time. Spectrum Homes, headed by Steve Amick, and Pacific Northwest Cabinetry?s designer Crystal Kennedy are consummate professionals and I would recommend them to others.1
Description of Work: Steve and his team, in collaboration with Pacific Northwest Cabinetry created for me a beautiful new kitchen in my 1920s era English Bungalow. The job included design, demo, creating and reinforcing the structural integrity of the room, electrical, plumbing, framing and finish work. One of the services provided was the opportunity to see a couple of virtual options for my new room. This was invaluable in being able to visualize my ideas along with those of designer Crystal Kennedy. During the demolition, we discovered that a former homeowner had done some dangerous work compromising the strength of the ceiling and floor supporting my upper level which necessitated the installation of a sturdy beam and some careful construction to make it right. In addition, some live wires had been buried in the ceiling soffit, and Steve made sure this problem was corrected. Finally, my kitchen had some wallpaper that I did not want painted over, so Steve’s team removed it.

It went perfectly for us. The schedule set before project start was met to the day. there were some problems (unforeseen) that came up during the project but Steve Amick worked very hard to resolve the issues without sacrificing schedule time. The subcontractors he uses were great! They were all very careful to minimize dirt and dust. The granite in the kitchen looks wonderful. Would highly recommend Spectrum. Willing to answer questions by email.

Here is my Top 10 List for Why Prospective Customers Should Pick Spectrum Homes: 1. Punctuality. The contractor was on time for everything, and always emailed or phoned me ahead if there were going to be any changes. 2. Ultra-organized. The contractor provided handbook and guide and day-by-day project report. 3. Thoroughness.. The contractor thought of everything. 4. Attention to detail. I can?t find a single thing the contractor left undone. 5. Experience. It shows. His suggestions of things we hadn?t thought of, especially the one for recessed lighting, were exactly what we needed. 6. Subcontractors. They all did quality work and I could see that he runs a tight ship with them. 7. On-time completion. I did not imagine that the project would really be finished on time, or even a little early. 8. On budget. I appreciated being able to know exactly how much we were going to be paying, from start to finish. 9. No horror stories to tell. My husband had heard some from his co-workers, and he has only good stories to tell about ours. 10. Husband thinks I am a genius for picking this company. Priceless.
Description of Work: Steve Amick was general contractor for a pull-and-replace kitchen remodel for a 1950s kitchen that was completed just before Thanksgiving. The work included semicustom cabinets, quartz countertops, tile backsplash, new gas stove and ventilation hood, marmoleum flooring, new sink and faucet, some electrical, insulation work, paint and finishes. The $42,000 cost did not include appliances, ventilation hood, sink or faucet. Kitchen designer was Crystal Kennedy of Pacific Northwest Cabinetry and cabinets were from Pacific Northwest. They worked together. Spectrum Homes bid was NOT the lowest. In fact there were two other bids that were about $5,000 lower. But Spectrum's bid was by far the most complete, and I felt that there would not be any surprise expenses along the way.

Everything went great. Steve from Spectrum Homes was great to work with. We were very comfortable with Steve's hands on approach. We presented our thoughts, Steve and Crystal from NW Cabinetry drew up plans for the perfect kitchen for us. Steve made up a building schedule and all followed it without a hitch and everything was on time. All of Steve's subcontractors were very professional and a pleasure to work with. I must commend Steve for always being available to talk to and address our concerns. If we called he almost always answered or returned the call shortly. I'm a "attention to detail" person and Steve demonstrated that philosophy through the remodeling process. We are very happy with our new kitchen and hope to use Spectrum Homes in the future remodeling of our bathrooms.
Description of Work: Totally remodeled kitchen in 1978 ranch style home. Demolished down to bare floors and walls. Removed wall between kitchen and dining area and wall between dining, kitchen and family room opening up the whole area. Steve was excellent to work with and teamed up well with Crystal from Pacific Northwest Cabinetry. From demolition to installation and final fixes, Steve was on top of the project, kept us informed and made sure things were done right. I was especially impressed with Steve's process where he commits to the job along with his contractors, so there aren't gaps in the schedule where a contractor is out and the schedule slips. We heard a lot of horror stories about delays from friends that used other contractors, but Steve made the process easier and less stressful.

The work started in mid-July while we were away, and the sun room was enclosed when we got home. We had a lot of different workers coming and going every day - Steve kept a very tight schedule and planned the work so there was very little idle time. The workers were polite and cleaned up after themselves every day. The work was completed in late October. For having so much going on every day for such a long time, it was surprisingly painless.
Description of Work: Steve Amick discussed with us what we wanted in a sun room addition to our home and, in conjunction with Pacific Northwest Cabinetry, what we wanted in a kitchen remodel. He had the plans drawn for the sun room, obtained all permits, sub-contracted for all the work.

Due to our schedules, we didn't really get going until January, 2012. The design and selection process took until the end of April and construction began May 22, 2012 and ended June 29, 2012. Steve Amick is wonderful in setting a schedule ahead of time for the work to be done and then being sure it is completed as scheduled. We had several setbacks during the 6 weeks (due to things we discovered after demolition of walls),, but Steve was amazing in the management of the project and still getting everything done on time.
Description of Work: The work done included a complete kitchen, laundry room, bathroom, half bathroom remodel, and new cabinets in the family room, kitchen, laundry, bathroom, 1/2 bath and dining room, plus a few other things in other parts of the house. The cost indicated above is all inclusive including new appliances, cabinets, fixtures, lighting, hardware, labor and materials, etc., This process began in 2011 when I purchased an Angies List Big Deal cabinetry design with Pacific Northwest Cabinets, and Steve was the contractor they recommended. I interviewed 4 different firms, but was most impressed with Spectrum homes and Pacific Northwest Cabinetry. While their bids were generally comparable, Steve was the only contractor who had his subs come out to the house before he submitted a bid. We lived in the house during the remodel and had subcontractors there practically every day. They were all very professional, easy to be around and did great work. These included framers, plumbers, electricians, door and window companies, drywall, tile and flooring, and others. I would definitely recommend Spectrum Homes. Steve is very responsive and easy to work with. Details of the remodel are: Kitchen & Dining Rooms: gutting of kitchen to studs, opening wall between the two rooms and installation of bi-fold glass doors, installation of new header beam, adjusting door sizes and installation of glass door, installation of new cabinets, windows, lighting, granite counters, tile back splash, linoleum tile floor, lighting, adjustment of heat ducts, re working plumbing from wall to be taken out to an outside wall, installation of upgraded electrical panel, new appliances and fixtures, new sliding door to deck, etc. Laundry: new cabinets and floor, repositioning of plumbing for rearrangement of appliances and sink, lighting. 1/2 bath: new cabinets and toilet, refinishing of existing shower, lighting. Living Room: installation of french door to hallway. Upstairs Bath: complete gutting of room to studs; electrical and plumbing, new tub, cabinets, fixtures, lighting, tile, and tile floor.

The experience was both positive, supportive, and informative--with the potential for an outstanding outcome. However, despite all of the above, I searched out a second bid bid which turned out to be competitive, and accepted it for the following reasons: 1) Cabinets would be manufactured locally, rather than out of state. 2) The 2nd bid identified the cost of the cabinets, whereas the 1st bid provided only the cost of the total project. 3) The general contractor for the 2nd bid turned out to be living in my general neighborhood, rather 10 miles away. It could be argued that I had been provided a valuable service at considerable time and expense of both Spectrum Homes and Pacific Northwest Cabinetry.
Description of Work: Steve Amick of Spectrum Homes was recommended as general contractor for Pacific Northwest Cabinetry's Big Deal offer of a kitchen remodel design, including computerized drawings. Steve & Christine (designer) made a home visit to clarify my ideas for installing a kitchenette in my basement. In addition to cabinets & counters, the project would require additional electrical power & circuitry, an extension of the plumbing system, framing & drywalling closets, some new flooring, and installation of a fireplace. Steve paid a second visit to clarify ideas further, accompanied by his electrical and plumbing contractors. Heating contractor followed. A couple of weeks later, Steve & Christine presented both computerized drawings of the proposed design and a detailed bid for the entire project in a meeting at the Pacific Northwest Cabinetry's office. Steve provided a list of recommended suppliers for counters, flooring, etc.

For the most part , everything was on schedule. Steve has a set schedule so the jobs ran smoothly. We were never inconvienenced during this remodel. We always had a working bathroom. As with any remodel, your chances are pretty good that you are going to run into some unforseen problems. Ours was the heavy wall texture, It just wasn't cooperating in certain areas. Needless to say there were a couple of extra trips out to touch up those areas . The light fixture in the master bath was another problem . Unfortunately I chose a very heavy fixture for that bathroom and where the previous light was anchored would not support the new fixture. It ended up requiring the existing mirror to be removed so that the light could be attached and a new mirror was installed. It took a couple of trys to get the new mirror to fit perfectly, but they did it and it looks great. Everything else turned out perfect! Not bad for all the work that was done on these bathrooms. Steve and his team went out of their way to make sure that everything was perfect. The bathrooms turned out great and I very happy with the results. I would definitely recommend Spectrum Homes for any remodeling needs. Steve and his team do a great job. This is the second job that they have done for us. They did our kitchen and living room remodel as well. They are fabulous!
Description of Work: This remodel involved both bathrooms. The hall bathroom remodel was the more extensive of the two rooms. The Hall Bath had the existing tub removed and a new fiberglass shower installed. The Hall closet was removed to allow more space in the bathroom. The Toilet and shower were moved from their previous locations and a pocket door was installed along with new walls, ceiling and wall texture. New cabinetry (Pacific NW Cabinetry) with Granite countertops and mosaic tile backsplash and tile floors were installed. New lights and fan installed. The Master Bath had the very small shower stall removed and expanded to a 5 ft fiberglass shower stall with glass doors. New Toilet and Granite counter top with mosaic tile blacksplash and tile floors were installed. New walls and texturizing. New lights and fan were installed.

This was my first experience with home remodeling Steve was one of several GC's I contacted early in my planning before I had finalized my remodel plans. Steve was able to provide a very detailed estimate based on the plans we had, and was very patient in answering my questions about the remodel process. Steve offered to set up a temporary kitchen in my garage, but I opted to move out for the duration of the work. Steve provided me with a list of all the subcontractors he brought in, and a daily schedule for what work would be done, when, and by whom. My home is a single story home with the kitchen sandwiched between the dining room and family room at one end of the house. There was a breakfast bar between the kitchen and family room, but otherwise the kitchen was cut off from the rest of the house by solid walls, with a narrow opening to the dining room. The dining room was on one side of the main entry, with an additional formal living room on the other side of the main entry. The family room at the back of the house shared an interior wall with the master bedroom. In that wall was a wood-burning metal fireplace. The remodel moved the dining room into the formal living room space, expanded the kitchen into the old dining space (almost doubling the kitchen space), removing the fireplace and turning the space in between the family room and master bedroom into a walk-in closet for the master bedroom. We did our own demolition, with Steve providing a trailor to haul away the debris. The demolition included removal of a metal, wood-buring fireplace and chimney. During our demolition we broke the seal around the chimney pipe where it penetrated the roof, and didn't notice it. Steve saw the leak and patched it up for us at no cost, since we were planning to remove the chimney entirely during a follow on roof replacement. I visited the house every 2-3 days during the remodel, and would end up sending Steve an email with a long list of questions about things I noticed. The questions were based on my ignorance of the remodel process nitty-gritty details, not on anything that was going off plan. Steve was very, VERY patient and responsive in answering all my many, MANY questions. I did ask for some changes during the remodel. I asked for wainscoting, additional interior doors and trim, and baseboard replacements that were not in the original plan. Steve was able to work with the woodworking and painting subcontractors to keep the remodel on schedule, even getting the painters to work during the holiday weekend to keep it all on track. Steve was diligent about checking with me when there were any questions. Time was scheduled for me to meet with all the subcontractors to review the plans at the beginning, and check in with them during the process. Steve and the subs occasionally had suggestions that they thought would make the final product better, and they were able to clearly explain their suggestions with the pros and cons. As it turned out, I agreed with their suggestions, and am happier with how things turned out. The project was completed on schedule and I was completely satisfied. Steve and each of the subcontractors provided contact information for any follow-up questions that might arise.
Description of Work: Steve Amick of Spectrum Homes, Inc. provided General Contractor services overseeing the remodel of my home which included modifying the kitchen, dining, living, and master bedroom spaces. We did demolition ourselves to save a bit of money. Steve organized the subcontractors and oversaw them all to complete the following: - construction of new walls with sheetrock and texturing, - patching and retexture of the ceiling, - electrical work for new lighting and reorganization of the electrical service in the kitchen, - gas line modification for a new gas cooktop in the kitchen, - cabinet and appliances installation (products purchased separately), - granite installation for countertops, - hardwood flooring (tieing in to existing hardwood) and carpet installation, - woodwork including wainscoting, columns and new baseboards, - painting, - replacing a window with a smaller window and patching/painting the exterior Hardiplank siding, - moving the crawlspace entrance, - replacing 8 interior doors, - addtion of an HVAC vent.

First, and foremost, Thank you Angie's list! I would never have known about Steve Amick/ Spectrum Homes without Angie's List and the cabinetry company who recommended him as a general contractor for my remodel. All I can say is Wow! From the very beginning, I was very comfortable working him and his team of subcontractors. They all did a fabulous job of making my ideas come to life. They are amazing! Steve made the whole remodel process run smoothly. He set up a detailed daily schedule for the project and stayed on schedule. The remodel was done in a little over 3 weeks and on time. He is very meticulous. You can be assured that everything will be done perfectly! He's probably the only person I know that would come in with toothpicks and a toothbrush and clean the excess grout out of the leaf detail on the tile strip on the back splash! I was impressed! The project stayed within my budget as well. Both my husband and I are extremely happy with the end result. We definately will use Steve Amick/Spectrum Homes in future projects and highly recommend him to others planning to remodel.

Steve and everyone who worked for him did an excellent job. We are thrilled with our cabinets, and our whole new kitchen/family room. Every craftsman he called to the job did an absolutely outstanding job. Every single one was courteous, fun, on time, friendly and very responsive. This was our first time through a project of this size and they made it much easier than we expected. Having a showroom, and a designer available to us was a real plus. The designer met me to look at backsplash tiles at the store, and also came to our house to help choose paint and cabinet colors. This team is great! Skilled, prompt, and really good at helping clients unfamiliar with this process. We were never "talked into" anything; they were always willing to answer questions and they were very agreeable to all of our decisions. I would hire these guys again in a second. In fact, I don't think I'd call anyone else.
Description of Work: Full kitchen/family room remodel, starting with a 1983 kitchen. The room was gutted floor to ceiling, a soffit removed, a hardwood floor installed, new lighting, new cabinets in kitchen and laundry room, new sliding door and two new windows installed, new countertops and backsplash, and new appliances. The kitchen work involved a new floor plan for the cabinets and appliances.

Steve with Spectrum Homes acted as our general contractor for a complete kitchen and family room tear down and remodel in our home. We were thoroughly impressed with Steve from the beginning of the job till the end. Steve was recommended through the cabinet shop that made the cabinetry for our kitchen. Steve started out by coming to our home, inspecting our current kitchen and family room. We had just bought our home, which was built in the early 70?s. Steve listened to what we liked and didn?t like about our kitchen. He brought out sub-contractors, such as electricians and plumbers, and together they made suggestions as to possibilities that we had not considered. Once Steve had all this information he put together a highly detailed proposal which included all costs and timelines. The job included demo?ing the old kitchen, including taking out soffits and floors, installing new drywall on some walls and ceiling, new hard wood floors, new cabinetry, new paint, new appliances, new electrical throughout, new lighting throughout, an island, new sink and fixtures, a full tile backsplash, granite counters, and gas lines run to the cook top and run outside for a grill. Steve did an amazing job keeping on the timeline he had proposed, which had to have been difficult due to my husbands and my odd work schedules that had to be worked around. Steve also kept the costs right on target and actually came below cost in a few areas. Steve and all the sub-contractors were very professional and a pleasure to work with. The pride of workmanship that Steve?s team displayed was amazing. Steve and his team were perfectionists and were far pickier then even my husband or myself. Everyone paid close attention to even the smallest details. We are very proud of our new kitchen and family room and it was well worth the disruption of construction as well as the cost. My husband and I would highly recommend Steve to any of our friends. We intend to use Steve?s service again in the future when we remodel bathrooms.
Description of Work: Steve with Spectrum Homes completed a full remodel of our kitchen and family room. This included demo'ing the existing kitchen, including soffits, old cabinetry, all flooring, lighting and some drywall. The work done was new hard wood floors, new electrical (lights, outlets, electric for appliances, etc.), plumbing for sink and fridge, gas lines run to cook top and to outside gas grill, new cabinetry, appliance install, full tile backsplash, granite counter tops, and finish carpentry work. The construction area was closed off from the rest of the home with plastic to keep the rest of the home clean during construction. Steve also set up a mini-kitchen in our dining room for us to use during the remodel.

They did beautifully and everyone was always on time. The quality was excellent.
Description of Work: He acted as our general contractor. He demolished our kitchen and got it read for all of the other sub contractors to come and to the job. He gave me a two page report of when the sub contractors were arriving and he was here everyday they were here.
