The housing market in Portland is pretty crazy in 2016, so having the knowledge and guidance of a true professional like Robbie was extremely helpful. Robbie was super responsive, honest, and dependable throughout the sale, and he worked diligently to help solve unforeseen issues that came up during the process. I appreciated his straightforward approach and his ability to communicate with me and with other agents and contractors on my behalf. I would recommend him to anyone. Thank you, Robbie!

+ -1 morePortland's Alternative Realtors, and specifically Robbie Ratkai, were recommended to us by good friends who we trust. And we were absolutely not disappointed. Robbie is organized, on top of the details, and he really listened to what we were looking for. And we changed what we were looking for, as we navigated the process. We ended up finding a home much more quickly than we expected, and Robbie handled all of the inspections for us. He offered calm advice when we needed it, and stepped back to let us decide, when the situation called for that. Highly, highly recommended. I wish he were licensed in WA so he could help us sell our home there...
Description of Work: Robbie was our buying real estate agent. He scheduled appointments to look at homes, made offers when we decided what we wanted, handled negotiations on our behalf, and when we had a contract, he handled all the inspections and feedback from those.

+ -1 moreRobbie was great! I, knowingly, contacted him before I was able to go out and actually make an offer. I wanted an opportunity to find the right person (he was the third person I spoke to), and also to get some insights about the market and the different neighborhoods. I had one agent tell me that they wouldn't meet with me until I was able to make offers, and they couldn't promise they would be available when that happened. Robbie, on the other hand, was very open to an initial meeting, was willing to answer various email questions over the couple months while we were waiting for my approval to purchase, and was right on board when I was ready. This is the third house I've purchased, and the first in Portland. I wasn't new to the experience, but new to this market. His experience and knowledge of the market and neighborhoods was spot on, including intangibles of traffic patterns, noise and the and quot;feeland quot; of a particular neighborhood. I so appreciated his willingness to come grab me from my downtown office to take me to listings in his car! He was very good at letting me know when he would be available/unavailable, and arranged for other agents from his office to assist me when he couldn't. He tactfully tried hard to steer me away from places he thought would be a bad fit or bad buy, and digged deep to find out information that wasn't readily available. He was right on top of all the parts of the process and coordinated without me asking. Great service, great experience, great person! He's welcome any time at my new house....

Description of Work: Knowing little to nothing about the entire home-buying process, my fiancée and I figured we ought to reach out to an agent to help out once we were ready to start looking at houses seriously. We had heard some good things from a friend of ours about Portland's Alternative Realtors, and wrote them through the contact form on their website. Robbie got in touch the same day, and set up an appointment for that following Saturday to check out some listings and go over what we were looking for. My fiancee and I both work all day Monday through Friday so it was great to meet someone who was available on evenings and weekends. Being that this was our first time buying a house, we had a bajillion questions. Robbie clearly and happily answered ALL of them. TWICE. Robbie is AWESOME. He's incredibly patient, knowledgeable, funny and was really a pleasure to work with. He knows his stuff about what to look for in a house, and provided a lot of insight in pointing out some potential concerns with houses we looked at. We were looking at a pretty small pocket of the inner SE, and Robbie was great at working within our super picky criteria and sent us listings anytime possible houses of interest popped up on the market. I had a somewhat negative preconceived notion that realtors may try to constantly upsell and rush you into making a decision at every corner, but that was exactly the opposite case working with Robbie. He knows what's up. After learning what kind of people we are, and what kind of house we were looking for, at no time did he ever try to sell us on something else, or push us in a particular direction. When it came time negotiate the conditions of the sale, I really feel like he went to bat for us, and knocked it out of the park (obligatory baseball metaphor). Robbie did a wonderful job negotiating back and forth until we were satisfied with the conditions of the sale.

+ -1 moreRobbie truly seems to enjoy his work, and clearly puts the customer's interests first. When we view houses, Robbie is often the first to note flaws in construction or maintenance, which is the sort of service not all agents or brokers provide. He is always willing to show us a house we have identified through the Internet or during a drive around Portland. I rate Robbie as excellent in friendliness, professionalism, knowledge, and courtesy. He also has a great sense of humor. He understands what we are looking for, and he respects our price limit. I recommend Robbie enthusiastically to anyone who is thinking of buying a house in Portland.
Description of Work: We just moved to Portland, but we have worked with Robbie for a couple of years. On our brief visits to Portland, he has helped us get to know the local market. Now, we are continuing to work with him to look for our ideal house. My wife and I are extremely fussy, and Robbie has shown us dozens of houses, without exhibiting the slightest indication of impatience.

Description of Work: First time buyers-- we bought our house through Robbie. He had to work hard because we wanted to see a ton of houses before we picked one (we saw like 70+ houses), and the house we finally picked was an owner sale with no agent on the other side.
