I worked with Paulsen about 12 or so years ago to install carpets in my bedrooms. I returned recently as the carpet needed updating. I worked with Hawaiian Brian who helped me pick a carpet to suit my needs. He directed me to the best option and I got a great deal thanks to a sale they had running. I was able to borrow lots of samples to see what color would work best. Brian came out to measure and was professional walking me thru the process. The carpet came in on time and the installation was done in less than 3-hours. Everything was as they said it would be. No delays or issues.

Abysmal tile work in showers. Didn't install to any of the nationally accepted standards, thus, we have to rip it all out and start over.

I went to the Vancouver location to arrange for an estimate for carpet replacement. I was largely ignored while the person talked to someone else. I finally was able to arrange an appointment to measure and estimate. When the estimator arrived, he seemed hesitant and unsure of himself. Several times he expressed concerns about the size of the living room (aprox 14x20), and how the carpet would be seamed together. He seemed puzzled at how the people who had installed the existing carpet had been able to do it. He left without giving me an estimate, said he would get back to me, and I never heard from them again. All I can say is wow, really?

I didn't like them that much. I'm stuck. They're just a showroom, they really don't do anything. They contract out. The product is theirs. They measure and get other people to do it that work for them. The people that actually did the work, were fine. They were professional, not really personable. I had some questions about the application, and I was kind of dismissed. The product they put down was not glued, it just layed down. I didn't understand that. They just kind of blew me off. I was pretty worried. They were a little demeaning, dismissive, and condescending. I would say they should improve on their communication skills.
Description of Work: There was a subsequent request. There is a problem, no one can do it because my stairs have spindles. They can't do a solid surface with spindles. I have to have the spindles removed, but that's a whole different project. I did the downstairs, I was going to the upstairs, but I can't do it until I deal with the stairs.
The sales person was very knowledgeable about flooring products and was a big help in making our choice from the many products now on the market. The installation team was punctual, courteous and did a fine job. There were two small problems with the installation. We had tiled a section of the living room floor at the front entrance, and there was not enough transitional material ordered to bridge the gap between the tile and the wood, but they quickly reordered the piece and came back to install it when they got it. The second problem occurred installing the baseboards. We have an older home with 10 inch baseboards and the installation team did not have the proper saws to cut a beveled edge in the baseboard material. We resolved this by getting a refund for the baseboard installation and using another contractor to install the baseboards. Overall we were happy with our experience with Paulsen's Flooring.

In late September I had a very low pile rug installed in my basement apartment. I noticed when I walked on it, it looked like dirty footprints. When I called the next day I was told to wait a few weeks, that sometimes carpets are rolled up and the nap needs to readjust. I waited a month, and it still looked bad. I complained to Paulson's and they scheduled one of their employees to come and inspect it. He took photos and reported back to Paulson's. I was then told they would need to have a 3rd party inspector come look at it. It was now 2 months after installation. The 3rd party inspector finally came after yet another month, and took photos. I was then told they would have to contact the mill. I felt after 3 months, it was too long to have this go on without some kind of offer to change it out, so I finally contacted JohnPaul Morton, the general manager. He immediately responded and said he'd look at both reports. He agreed to totally replace the carpet and I have now ordered new carpeting to be installed. I was extremely satisfied with the outcome, don't know what that particular carpet acted the way it did, nor do I know why it would take so long to establish that something was amiss. But once I contacted the right person, things were dealt with in a very professional manner.
Description of Work: This was a mixed blessing of a story. I had my basement apartment re-carpeted by Paulson's in September. I've detailed my experience below.

We found Paulson's through the Costco program. "Hawaiin Brian" was the sales guy who visited our home and took the measurements. He was pleasant and knowledgeable. He was flexible with some scheduling difficulties that we created, and the carpet was installed in time and correctly. It was a good overall experience.

Throughout the entire process we were very impressed with everyone concerned. The salesman spent over an hour with us comparing colors to our walls and furniture and discussing the pros and cons of the different carpet types. The installers went above and beyond to insure that a very difficult installation was done to our satisfaction. Without question we would make this call again if we needed carpet.
Description of Work: Using Costco's buying services, offered through Paulson's, we had the master suite and living room re-carpeted.
.They did very well we were quite pleased. We need carpet that needs to be done and we plan to call and use them. They did an excellent job in the past and we want to use them on our next project.

They installed vinyl in our kitchen. They were on time and did a really good job and had it done it one day. They did an outstanding job and were really good about cleaning up afterwards. I would highly recommend their services to others.
Description of Work: I hired them to replace my kitchen flooring.
we really wanted to like Paulson's, but it's not a surprise to see so many negative reviews. first the good: we liked working with Troy Wright who was our salesman, he is a super nice guy, professional and helped us really dial in what we wanted. now the bad: our installation was rough. the subcontractor installed the carpet in one room and had our hallway carpet torn out before they realized the new carpet was defective. they left the carpet in the room, but the hallway was torn up. they said we can just leave the pad or we can piece together the old carpet. we told them to put the old carpet back. instead of putting it down with staples or something low profile they nail gunned our old carpet down to the floor. so we had all these nail heads sticking up in our hallway until we got the new carpet in. the basement carpet was ok, no defect, but our doors wouldn't close. so instead of saying something about it, they took the doors off the hinges and left them off to the side and mentioned it on their way out. we didn't realize that door clearance was going to be an issue, it was never mentioned. (an aside here, Troy did help us out, and credited us the money off the bill to get 2 of our doors shaved) so they re-order the carpet. you would think for a 4000$ job they would expedite getting the new carpet out and installed....it took them almost a month to get back out to install the new carpet. I will mention, thanksgiving was in there, but that wasn't the reason it took so long. they wanted to bring the same contractor back to install the new carpet. we were told he was booked up with his own non Paulson's customers. So we pretty much had to work around his schedule instead of them sending someone out as soon as they got the carpet in to fix the defective carpet in the room and the nailed down old carpet in the hallway. so they come back to fix things...they did a good job in the room, but the hallway....we paid extra money to have the carpet only seamed once, the contractor seamed it twice. we were a little bitter about that, and the fact that the hallway just doesn't look like it was installed as good as the rest of the carpet. we were so tired of the whole process, we didn't want to wait another month for them to come back and reinstall the hallway carpet again and seam it once like we agreed. so we just decided to live with 2 seams and the not so great install quality in the hallway. we did get our money back for the seam issue, but we had a bad taste in our mouth paying the full rest of the balance considering the quality (in the hallway) and the service (once we had issues) we barely got an apology for the way things went. When Troy first came to our house to bid the carpet, we also asked him to bid for counter tops, backsplash in the kitchen and we were considering them for floors in the kitchen. That would have been another few thousand dollars on top of the 4000$ we paid for the carpet......when we do that work, we will not be hiring Paulson's due to this experience.

Both women's attitudes were very snotty. I am in the Customer Service business and find that there's was severely lacking. I don't know what kind of products they have, but I won't deal with a company with lousy customer service. I'm going elsewhere!
Description of Work: I submitted a request online to have someone come out and repair my floor. The refrigerator leaked and caused the floor to buckle. Our insurance company has sent a check for us to find a company to repair it. A woman from Paulson's called and left a message on my answering machine. I didn't write her name down. When I called Paulson's, they said they couldn't help me since I didn't have the persons name who I never spoke to! I was outraged. Then, she said, "We don't repair floors that we didn't sell!" Then, I was passed onto another lady who asked the same questions. But she said that if it was an insurance claim, they could repair it. Only thing is she can't help me unless she knows the name of the lady who called me! Then, she said if the insurance company gave me a check, they can't help me because they only work directly with insurance companies.

Overall everyone we dealt with was very professional and we were impressed with the job when it was done. We didn't really know what we wanted when we walked into the store. Samir went through all the options and we went back and forth and had more than one quote done for different materials. Samir was very patient with us as we made our final decisions. Installation: Travis and Cory the installers were very professional on the job. It took a day or two to get phone calls returned but we were OK with this and not in a hurry to get the job done quickly, we were more interested in having it done correctly the first time. The quality of the job, the cleanliness they left our home, and the respect they treated us with will have us asking for them by name in the future if we want to have similar work done!

Working with Paulson's was a complete waste of time and energy...we got pushed at products they liked so they could make a larger profit. Had I not been on top of it install would have been done wrong. Color variation on a tile was so extreme we are needing to tear it out and start over in a room...we are in a brand new house! They are not willing to do anything to help off set the cost of the re-do we do not expect them to pay for it all. Complete lack of customer service they do not care if you are satisfied or not. Make sure you check prices of everything if they say they cannot get it to you keep pressing or go elsewhere. We have worked with many contractors and never had a worse experience.

They were horrible. There was granite falling off the wall and the flooring was horrible. When we pulled up we just got hardwood flooring and pulled the carpet off and the part was repaired with recycled crap and we paid the highest premium. They work is just going to fall apart and you are not going to get what you paid for and everything was bad.

Wow, looking at all the Paulson's Flooring reviews on Yelp and other sites it doesn't surprise me that their overall satisfaction rating is poor. Guess what? Here's another customer with a terrible experience I'm having to fight with them right now because they won't honor their warranty claim on a new home that I had built a year ago through Waverly Homes in Vancouver, WA. They did the hardwood floor in my house, and nearly a year into the home some of the wood planks are coming up - no big surprise there. That is to be expected. What wasn't expected was the horrendous Customer Service and rude attitude from their warranty administrator Gary (I believe that was his name)I submitted a warranty claim through my home builder and they sent it to Paulson's. Shortly after I receive a call from this Gary guy so I can explain to him my issue. He seemed shocked and taken back that the flooring could POSSIBLY be coming up. The general attitude he had with me on the phone was that I, the customer, was either lying or didn't know what I was talking about. Strike #1. I finally scheduled a date for them to come out, and told him I would be out of town and would have my partner at home who would be available. Well, due to unforeseen circumstances we had a family tragedy come up the morning of the appointment and my partner had to take care of that while I was away on my business trip. All of these things were unknown to me. Paulson's showed up and of course we missed our appointment due to the family tragedy. This Gary guy called me later that afternoon and proceeded to be extremely rude about missing my appointment. I told him that I just found out no one was home because of this, and that it was a horrible family tragedy and that I would like to reschedule. He said for me to call him back when I was in town, but I proceeded to tell him NO and that I could reschedule with him right now on the phone. He started to get really defensive and rude with me saying that he couldn't right now and I would need to call back when I have my personal issues taken care of because he doesn't have his contractors schedule available, etc etc. I proceeded to get a bit snippy and told him to call me back when he had his schedule available because it's a WARRANTY claim and therefore it's their responsibility to fix my flooring. Yes, I'll admit I was being a little fiesty but I was having to deal with this family issue from 3,000 miles away and didn't need some contractor being rude to me. Strike #2 The final strike that broke the camel's back was nearly a month after waiting for this guy to call back, he takes the easy way out and tells the warranty administrator at my home builder that they won't come out again unless I pay a $150 missed appointment charge. I understand that they have to pay people, I really do. But they are completely unwilling to work with me even after I can prove to them what happened to my family (it was on the news). Nothing was ever provided to me stating there would be a $150 appointment charge. Strike #3. As it stands, this company is completely unwilling to honor their warranty. I would recommend NEVER doing business with these despicable people - EVER.

It was a fiasco that took several months and many hours of time and negotiation to resolve. The first carpet was flawed. They limited our choices on replacing it with a different one. In the process, a helpful supervisor finally helped resolve things, but not until I learned that we'd paid for 20% carpet than was needed and the tried to charge us 20% more for the replacement than was available at another of their outlets.
