Tom Island performed an inspection on the home I am in the process of buying. I am VERY satisfied with the work he performed. I feel fortunate that the home is in good condition and has relatively few problems, all of the minor. Tom was easy to talk with and he went over with me all the conditions he found, and what is needed to fix them. I can recommend people to do some of the work that needs to be done. The inspection report was very complete and understandable, with pictures showing each of the problem areas. My wife and I are very satisfied with the work Tom performed for us.

Tom did a new home purchase inspection for us. He was very thorough, incredibly knowledgable, and detailed in his assessment. He’s very personable, and kept us apprised as he worked through the work. His report came the same day as the inspection, which helped us to get moving on the few small items needing fixing. Tom is extremely professional, competent and personable. He performed inspection on the condo we are buying. He noticed things we would never have thought of and would have been extremely disappointed to find after move-in, like low water pressure. He answered questions not entirely related to the inspection because we are new to the condo market. After the inspection Tom went over his findings in detail, in lay terms and again answered questions until we thoroughly understood what repairs were needed and why. I would definitely hire Tom again and am happy to recommend him.

Tom was great. The tenant living in the house we're buying didn't know it was inspection day, so was understandably agitated when we arrived. Tom was able to smooth out the situation, and perform a thorough inspection. Once his mission was complete, he hung out outside with us to go over what would be in the report, and answer any and all questions. 100% will use PNWHI for future inspections.

Tom was very easy to work with. He responded promptly to my request for a quote. We were able to quickly set up an inspection time. Tom was very thorough and professional. It was clear that he has a wealth of experience to draw on - he has seen it all. At the end of the inspection, he walked me around the house showing me what he found, and what the impact of the issues would be. Tom Island was absolutely completely competent, experienced, knowledgeable and thorough. I have a construction background. I asked him many questions and he really really knew his trade. I can't imagine using anyone else. His report was done by midnight as promised, the same day, and was full of excellent pictures that were perfectly chosen to show the issues clearly. He has wonderful grasp of english language, and there were zero spelling or grammer mistakes. Wow!!!

I found Tom Island’s company online when I was looking for a highly rated home inspection service around Portland area. He has the highest rating so I thought it is wise to hire him. I am very thankful that I did the right decision! Tom’s process of home inspection is very comprehensive and even the smallest details that I was not expecting to be done was performed (like finding one of the doors screws are missing). He sent the final online report within an hour after we completed the physical inspection. His report is very organized and you can easily navigate through it. I also like the way he provides a summary at the end which lists only the items that need attention or repair. I highly recommend his service even if you are buying a new construction home which is my case.

Tom has performed four inspections for me over the years. His level of quality and attention to detail is great. In a previous home purchase I used a different home inspector and that experience was nothing compared to Tom's high quality inspection. With my latest home purchase, I hired Tom and I'm glad I did.

He was there on time. He was very well versed in building codes, permits etc. He recognized many "improvements" in a renovation that were done incorrectly and could have cost us thousands of dollars if not recognized

Tom is supremely knowledgable and is excellent at providing an idea of the priorities and the approximate cost of repairs. He is more thorough than most--as he does go up on the roof (which not all do) and he goes into the crawl. His reports are comprehensive and document most everything that you would want to know.

Tom provided an excellent, thorough report with added value of extensive experience in Portland. I'd had a less professional service with a prior home buy, and it cost me a little bit extra $$ later, so I was concerned about not repeating that experience, and I feel a lot more confident about this inspection process. Everything was covered extensively, and the report itself is well organized and efficiently documents the projects I'll be tackling post purchase. The detail also made it simple to negotiate price for a few items.

Very detailed. Took his time. Found a lot of little issues and a big drainage problem. Glad we used him. Saving us a lot of money upfront with having builder fix now before we finish signing paperwork. Came back with full report same day!!!!!!!!!!! Recommend highly

Whereas the cost of the evaluation may be at the high end of the scale, it is well worth the added expense. I cannot speak highly enough of his service, and I would recommend him to any person contemplating a home purchase.

Tom is consistently thoughtful, professional, kind and communicates at the highest level. We recommend him to everyone because he knows his business inside and out. He's up on the latest codes, understands the difference between advising an investor versus a home buyer for residential purposes, and is available after the inspection to answer questions. Tom showed up to inspect a potential home purchase. He responded quickly and was able to take care of our inspection days before other people we contacted.
