It cost us $650 deposit. He took the deposit and never absconded. I found out that his license and bonds were expired. He came over to do the estimate and he had a couple of concrete samples with him for color. He also got a nice little website that made him looked very professional. He did not take any money on that day. He wrote up a proposal for us and e-mailed it to me. Probably about two weeks later, we scheduled for him to come back and do a template for the design of it that he could take back, and that is when he took the deposit. He claimed that he would be able to install it within the next two weeks. After that, I called numerous times, e-mailed, and text messaged him. He kept telling me that he was having problems with his phone and gave me a different phone number that I should use. Basically, he quit taking my calls and quit returning texts or calls or e-mails. So, I could not get a hold of him because he would not answer my calls anymore. I had my husband call him from his cellphone which is a different area code even, and the guy answered. My husband actually left him a message telling him that he wants a concrete work done. He called back. My husband told him that I was his wife and asked when he was going to complete the work for us. He went off a tirade and yelled obscenities at my husband. My husband just said that we did not want him to do the work anymore and asked him to let us know how we can get a refund for our deposit. He told us that he would put it in the mail on Monday, but that never happened. He just disappeared. Since then, I had gone online and read testaments from other people about him. I would like to give a strong warning to people because he is not licensed, not bonded, and not an actual business.
Description of Work: NW Concrete Interiors LLC was supposed to do the fireplace surround for us.

It was a mistake to not check out the company and owner prior to giving him a deposit. We contacted the company after reviewing his website late April 2013. His response was quick and we made an appointment for an estimate. James didn't show for the first appointment and that should have been a red flag to us. We got an excuse that his phone had been stolen and rescheduled the appointment. He came out and gave us an estimate. Samples were supposed to be dropped off but somehow made it to someone else's house (so said) and we received them a week later. We liked the samples none the less and the price seemed reasonable. We issued the company a deposit for 50% down. Another mistake. Since that time, James missed two installment dates as no shows. There were multiple excuses with the last one being that his tools were sitting on another job site that couldn't be accessed. He never could get around to sending me the pictures of the poured concrete although he says it was done. I learned that his contractor's license had been inactive since October 2012. When I confronted him with this I got more excuses but the promise it was being taken care of. Ultimately, James did not reinstate his license, continues to advertise his company and has not returned our deposit. We cancelled our contract, he agreed to refund our money and as of today are still waiting. Our last contact with him July 28, 2013 when he wanted me to confirm my address after telling us the check had been mailed. Stay away from this company and James Bomotti. It seems his business is to sell but not deliver. From reading other Angie's lists reviews and other websites, this is a habit and not an incident. I intend to pursue reimbursement and any other appropriate measures to stop him from continuing to defraud homeowners. As a side note, I found another contractor through Angies list that not only delivered, but managed to do the whole job start to finish in 2 weeks.

After our deposit, communication got sketchy. We had an appointment for install 2 weeks ago (again) that had to be coordinated with the electrician to hook up lights for a glass countertop. The electrician showed up, but we got no word that this guy wasn't going to be there. The week before he didn't show up because the Truck broke down. This time we hear later he was in the hospital with kidney stones, but was out and giving excuses the next morning. We now found out this past weekend that he doesn't even have all the glass to finish the job for an install, even though the prior install appointment was made the day before he was supposed to arrive! Like he didn't know. The CCB# I now find out has lapsed, so has his bond. I had to cancel my project today by reversing charges on my CC# and find a plan B. It's been almost 90 days since I gave the deposit and was told it would take only 4 weeks to get the glass made. I should have looked on Angie's List first.
Description of Work: He came and took measurements, introduced us to the material manufacturer of the glass for a countertop, gave us a quote, took our deposit, made excuses...repeatedly.

Response from NW Concrete Interiors LLC
[member name removed], came to us in regards to doing a glass countertop. [member name removed] gave NW Concrete Interiors a deposit for $1,600.00 to pay for the glass slabs to be manufactured. Gleen Glass LLC is the company that made the glass slabs that were going to be used for this project. We schedule the install before we had all the slabs fabricated, and to the error of Gleen glass LLC, they didn't manufacture enough slabs to complete the project. During this time period [member name removed] and the owner of Gleen Glass LLC, John Sauer, were in constant communication about the problem and delaying install. [member name removed] placed a call to Gleen Glass LLC on May 26th, 2013 and discussed progress of the last slab being finished and other details about the job. During this discussion, [member name removed] was notified that there would be as seam along a section of the counters that he was unaware of. He did express that he was unhappy with how long it was taking but was understanding. A few days later, May 28th, [member name removed]called and notified that he didnt want NW Concrete Interiors LLC to do the job and that he didn't know about the seam and had already reversed the charges on his credit card. We understand there concerns and appreciate the patients of having to wait for the all the glass to be manufactured/fabricated. The least you could do is pick up all your countertops that are done and have another contractor install them instead calling a credit card company and simply reversing the charges. Its unfortunate

It didn't go!!
Description of Work: I entered into a contract with NW Concrete Interiors on November 21, 2012. Sent him a check for $656.25 (50% down payment). He originally wanted 80% down payment and I said no to that. He was supposed to have the countertop at my shop for installation on December 17th. From November 21 until December 18th we never heard a word from him. We had called numerous times and always got a voicemail left messages but not once did he respond. Finally on the 18th of December he emailed to tell us he was stuck in a snow storm in Eastern Oregon. He said he hoped to be back that day and drop the slabs off to us. That is the last correspondence we have ever had from him. Many phone calls later with no contact from him. I had to hire someone else to do the job as I had to keep my commitment to my customer. This person went above and beyond to take care of this job. He worked long hours on the Christmas Holiday to get this completed for me. As you can see by the above reviews I'm not the only one he has done this too. Good luck for anybody going after his bond beacuse he let his Contractor's Liscense expire on 10/28/2012. Hey James I've been in this industry for 25 years and know a lot of people in the Cabinet business, beleive me when I tell you I will always ask if any of my associates have heard of you and I will be more than willing to share my experience of doing business with you to them.

Horrible experience....See above.
Description of Work: We hired this guy (James Bomotti) and his company (NW concrete Interiors) to fabricate and install concrete countertops in our large kitchen remodel we were doing in our home. To make a very long, painful story short....He came out, gave us an estimate ($8000) we agreed to the terms (4-5 weeks completion and install) and gave him a check for $4600 dollars to get started. 4 weeks later after having no communication and some 20 phone calls to his cell and/or VM's , emails asking for an update I get a short email stating a delay. After that and after several more weeks and more email and VM messages asking for an install date that went completely ignored and avoided I cancelled the contract due to breach. I demanded my deposit back... yet still no answer or correspondence. This went on for several frustrating weeks. I finally did talk to Mr. Bomotti after I blocked my number and he answered his cell. He stated that he had every intention of paying my deposit back but had "gotten behind". (Interesting, as I discovered he seemed to have enough money to have moved into an expensive high rise apt. in the pearl district during this time). I finally tracked him down and had my attorney sue him. He made payment arrangements with my attorney and has since missed both of those further avoiding his business responsibilities and promises. I am know continuing with legal recourse to get my deposit back from Mr. Bomotti. I have reported them to the BBB, The contractors board etc. And Mr. Bomotti, if you are reading this. Please know that I will pursue you and this matter until I have complete satisfaction and my money is returned with interest and penalties! My advice to anyone thinking of using this guy or his "company" ....STAY FAR AWAY!

Since that date there has been multitple problems with our project. He has missed all his promised install dates. He does not return phone calls or emails in a timely manner. He pushed the install date back at least ten times officially and one time didn't even bother to call us or email us, he just didn't show up. He made the counters backwards once, another time he didn't have the right trailer to bring them to the house. The last time he was here 3/28 he installed one side. It did not fit properly so he took the counters into our backyard and ground them down and forced them into place. Our stove is no longer centered where it should be and our oven door does not close properly. There are still sharpie marker marks on the side of the counter where he ground them down. The other side he installed cracked during installation. He left it in our home promising to come back and replace it. At the time we agreed to this. However, the next day the other "completed" side of the counter started having serious problems. The finish he had put on them started to discolor, bubble and flake off in some places. I went to make a salad and placed a bottle of olive oil on the counter for a brief moment. This left a penetrating oil stain on the counter. I called him immediately to voice my concern that there must be a problem with the sealer. James did not return my phone call but sent me an email with after care instructions no where on those instructions did it say not to get oil anywhere near the counters. It said, use them lightly. All we had done is made a salad and heated up some soup. After I got the email I again called James to discuss our concerns with our project. He did not return our phone call. We waited 24 hours for a response and when we did not recieve one, we requested a stop work order on our project. At this point we have given James Bommoti and NW Concrete Interiors multiple opportunites to get our job done and done correctly. After consulitng with other concrete counter fabricators it is apparent that his work, craftsmanship, and business practices are unaceptable. The side that is unsealed sitting in our home, cracked, has no rebar, nor fiber or aggregate in it. The custom dish drain he made on the sink side is not polished or sealed there is also a large chip on the edge that must have also occurred during install.. After leaving the counters here we wiped them down and both the sealed and unsealed side left red marks on the towels used to wipe them down. They are not sealed properly at all. We are currently seeking a full refund from the company, which he has refused to offer. At one point he told us that he had lifted our stop work order and that if we wanted our counters we could come to his shop pick them up and install them ourselves. We no longer want to work with James Bomotti or NW Concrete interiors. We were more than patient and kind and understanding for 3 long months we are done.
Description of Work: We hired James Bomotti of NW Concrete Interiors to fabricate and Install concrete countertops in our home in the middle of January. We signed the final contract the 25th of January with an expected install date of February 9th. We ordered 27 sq ft of concrete counters at 21/2 inches. We also hired him to install and fabricate a backsplash and dish drain on the sink side and a stair topper over our stairwell. We also bought a new sink through him. Total cost of the job was 2940.00 of which we have paid 1880.00 plus the cost of the sink, which is still sitting in a box in our kitchen.

Response from NW Concrete Interiors LLC
This is in response to a recently filed complaint against NW Concrete Interiors (hereafter referred to as "NWCI”) by this member (hereafter referred to as "Owner"). I would like to address the Owner’s concerns one by one. • Challenges with project and install date pushed out - The Owner first contacted NWCI on 12/15/09 via our website, I quickly followed up, made a couple of trips to their home, provided 7-10 custom samples at no charge and on 01/30/10 they finalized their color selection. The Owner signed the contract on 01/25/10; however, was notified via email of a change to the approximate completion date due to their delay in color selection (approximate completion date given was 02/22/1 0). Yes, we had some challenges along the way (unforeseeable and/or out of my control) with this specific project which caused it to be pushed back. During this time the Owners have had a full functioning kitchen. I have been honest throughout this process, the Owner's have agreed to the extensions and I have appreciated and thanked the Owners for their patience along the way. • Responsiveness - I personally do my best to return calls/emails within 24hrs. We are a small business and it's not uncommon for me to work very late in the evenings. Many of my follow-ups to calls and/or emails are sent out late in the evening and/or very early in the morning. I'm in the field and on a job-site nearly every day and answer my phone when possible. There are times when it may take me longer than 24hrs to respond. • Grinding countertop to fit - The Owners' home was built in the early 1900's and no wall in this home is straight nor are the cabinets level. It is the responsibility of the Owner to ensure that the cabinets are plumb, level and square which they were fully aware of. A template was pulled prior to starting the fabrication/pouring; however, it is not uncommon to have to do some grinding on-site when we're dealing with unlevel surfaces/walls. Our contract specifically states that "NWCI shall complete the construction of the project to the dimensions of the construction documents; however, there could be a variance in the field, based on site conditions, materials used or other encumbrances not known". We had to retrofit the countertop by scribing approximately 1/8" so that the finish end pieces that go with the stove would fit as they were not in place at the time of templating. It is the Owners responsibility to have this all of this in place prior to templating, they didn't so the suggestion I made was to scribe the countertop which had to be done on-site. We could have simply installed the countertop as it was and not have gone the extra mile to make the suggestion to scribe the countertops to fit the finish end pieces for the stove. It was more work on my part but in my professional opinion doing this would aesthetically look better and please the Owners. • Stove is no longer centered - The stove was never centered due to prior cabinet alterations (taking standard height cabinets and raising I guess to create a "bar height") and the stove was barely sitting on narrow retrofitted guides vertically raised off the ground. The finish end pieces that go on each side of the instrument panel of the stove were not in place. We were not made aware of any issues with the stove/oven. • Defective sealer - I have yet to see a defect in the sealer. The Owners have not given NWCI the opportunity to correct work failing to conform. Upon hearing from the Owner I stated that I would respectfully take their word until I personally inspected the surface, which is explained in the signed contract between NWCI and the Owner. Every handcrafted concrete countertop is backed by an easy to understand one-year warranty. Prior to me leaving the project site I specifically told the Owners they could use the countertops in place but that I would clean up and do one last light finish and wax on the countertops when I came back to complete the install (clean up would include any marker guides, etc). The Owner acknowledged and agreed to this due to the fact that it was getting late in the evening. • Penetrating stain - I did receive a voicemail from the Owner and followed up in an email the following day. In the email stated that the "oil stain" was not a problem, 1 would take care of it when I came out to install the final slab. In this email sent the one-year warranty along with the care and maintenance guide. Both documents are explanatory and provide a complete picture of what to expect, most of which is repeated on our website. These documents are provided in hard copy as well to all countertop clients upon final installation. • Reinforcing the countertop - Standard concrete countertops are 1 %" thick. The Owners decided to go with a non-standard 2 %" thick countertop to achieve the countertop height they preferred. Numerous materials are used to reinforce concrete countertops (Le. rebar, synthetic fiber, alkali resistant glass fiber, carbon fiber mesh, fly ash etc). The determination of which type of reinforcement to use is based on the application/project scope and at our discretion. Every manufacturer of concrete countertops has their own proprietary blend, the other contractors the Owner spoke to do not know what materials were used in our product just as I do not know what they use. • Request for refund - On 04/01/1 0 the Owners halted work on the re-pour of the final slab, which was two days after the Owner agreed to the re-pour and by this time the materials were purchased and the countertop was poured. This was explained to the Owners and they demanded a "stop work order" along with a refund. On 04/08/10 I notified the Owners via email that after much consideration NWCI would not be issuing a refund due to the fact that they agreed to the terms which were to have me re-pour the final countertop and finish up installation 10 days later (it was explained to the Owner at this time that the 10 day time frame could very well be moved out due to their "stop work" request). In this same email the Owners were given the option to schedule install or pick up the countertop and install it themselves. On 04/12/10 I made one last attempt to schedule the final install and the Owner responded back with their request for a full refund. Our contract has a mediation and arbitration clause. On 04/21/10 the Owners received a certified letter from me inviting them to resolve this matter through a local mediator and requested their response by 04/26/10, which they did not provide. The remaining balance on this project owed is $1,059.85. In common installations any concerns that come up are addressed and resolved on the final installation day. It was my intention here to clear things up. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. James Bomotti Owner
