Since December 12, 2005, I have left more than 12 messages with Rob, asking him to to re-install the caps. When he finally returned a call on July 28, 2006, he said he'd be out on Monday, July 31, 2006, at 9 am. We waited all day, called him and never heard from him. I continued to leave him messages on 8/10/2006, 9/12/2006 (his buddy answered the phone and said that ''they were busy helping a girl get her car out of hock'' but Rob never called back), 9/14/2006 and 9/15/2006. He called me yesterday (9/20/2006)and said he'd be ''at the house on Friday, 9/22...I'm sorry, I've been out of town''(which is what he said in his call 7/28/2006). I'm skeptical and in my previous messages had told him I'd be filing on Angie's list, since I'd read about him already being in the penalty box. All we want is our chimney caps installed again on our thirty-foot-high chimmeys and assurance that they will work.
Description of Work: Rob installed three copper chimney caps in summer of 2002. Two of the caps have never worked properly, resulting in huge amounts of smoke down drafting into the house, when a fire in the fireplace is lit. Rob came out once in 2004 to try to ''bend the caps into shape'' so that they would swivel properly in the wind. And he said they ''were fixed.'' A fire in the fireplace during a very important dinner party confirmed the contrary. He came out again 10/12/2005 and just took the caps off, telling us to see if ''we got any rain down the chimneys.'' We did. In the meantime, my husband carefully studied the caps and determined that one had a glob of solder on it, preventing the swivel. He drilled it out and it twirls fine. We need to have the caps re-installed.

The gentleman was contracted to repair our chimney, did what was described later by another professional as "fair" work on our chimney cap, then didn't show up for a couple scheduled appointments to complete the interior. He then showed up out of the blue on a different day and was argumentative when told his visit was inappropriate. That's what moved this experience from frustrating to unacceptable.
Description of Work: Chimney repair.

OVERALL I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH HIS WORK. I WAS NOT THE NUMBER ONE PERSON ON THIS JOB SITE. I COULD NOT DEPEND ON HIM TO GET BACK WITH ME WHEN I WOULD CALL, HE ALWAYS HAD AN EXCUSE FOR THE DELAY. I AM STILL AWAITING MY REFUND THAT HE SAID THAT HE WOULD SUPPLY.
Description of Work: AFTER SHOWING HIM ALL THAT I WAS DISSATISFIED WITH WE CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT HE WOULD REIMBURSE ME OF MY FUNDS OF THE JOB. HE TOLD ME THAT HE WOULD REPAY ME BY CHECK AS OF TODAY, MAY 19, 2006. I'M STILL WAITING.

Response from MOODY'S CHIMNEY REPAIR & RESTORATION
From the first day I started working on the chimney, the member stood outside the whole time looking at me, watching me work. He never once stated that he was dissatisfied with my work. When I completed the work he had no problem paying for the work done. He called me back two to three days after completion of the work and stated that I had missed a couple of cracks. So I showed back up at his house to repair the cracks and he said his inspector told him there were a lot of different things still wrong with the chimney. I asked him if I could speak with his inspector and he replied, "I don't think so." He had said at the end of the job that he was happy with the work. I have a witness who was with me. I am not willing to give him $500, I spent a lot of time working on his chimney. Charles "Rob" Moody, Owner, Moody's Chimney Repair & Restoration

Rob and his partner showed up on appointed day, but found much less "repair" needed on the chimneys, 2 of 3 flues were clean enough to NOT need cleaning. Though only working a few hours on the first day, he asked for 1/2 payment, which we provided. He completed job next day, but did not reduce his fee. Later, we found 10-15 chunks of 4' mortar pieces left in the gutters, and little evidence of any tuckpointing. Also, broken mortar pieces could still be seen on the chimney--not repaired. He said he'd fixed the chimney cap, which hadn't ever swivelled right (he had installed 3 years earlier and it never worked properly). I called him to have him come back out. He said he would and never did. Then, one evening we were having a big dinner party and we had a fire in the fireplace. As our guests arrived, all of our smoke alarms went off, and the house filled with smoke. The cap wasn't moving and smoke could not escape. We've called 3 times. He will not return our calls.
Description of Work: Rob was to pressure wash exterior of chimneys, tuckpointed where necessary, seal chimneys, sweep both chimneys, vacuum smoke shelf and brush fire box, clean excess debris and dust from room/property, repair existing wind cap so it would swivel properly.
