My neighbor and I went to this company to acquire a new video card for here computer due to a new game her son received for Christmas. The tech talked us out of the card and recommended instead a used computer with more memory. For $250, my neighbor got an old computer with Windows XP and an 80 gig hard drive, and we still needed the new video card! We then asked to have the old, working hard drive installed in the new system to have access to existing files. When we got the computer back that afternoon, the hard drive could not be accessed from the new system. They were able to transfer a few files back at the shop, but then completely erased the old drive including the partitions! This is also the SAME company listed as being located on SE McLoughlin in Milwaukie, where they have relocated to.
Description of Work: Went there for a new video card, instead we were sold a used computer "upgrade" that was no bargain. Operating system was still Windows XP, 80 hard drive. When installing the old, working hard drive in this system, it was unaccessable. In the process of trying to recover data from this drive, they were able to get a few files, but ultimately erased the contents, including the partitions!

They completely wiped hard drive. and deleted old documents and photos that are never going to be able to replaced. Lied about problem. Wanted to give me a small thumb drive to store documents in the future.AD
Description of Work: I had problems opening programs. They said they would call me with repairs before doing anything. They did not and just wiped the hard drive of all programs and even programs installed by Dell that had nothing to do with waht they were trying to fix. turns out it was a C drive battery. But they had already wiped out many documents and photos that never are retrievable are totally lost.

Terrible. I never felt like I was getting the straight scoop. I will not use them again and will never recommend this company to anyone.
Description of Work: Computer had been in moving box for 1 year after same company had done "repairs" for $125.00 to get it wi-fi ready and clean up virus. Could not get Norton to load, so I brought it back to Micro-Tech to have them help install it. I had not heard back from them within alotted time and I wanted to take this computer with me when I left town, the next day. They "rushed" the job so I could have it. When I went to pick it up, they said there was absolutely nothing on my computer when they booted it up. So they just installed a whole new system, and eliminated ALL Windows programs, including Outlook, Office, Excel, Publisher. Everything. They did not save any folders with pictures, music, documents. NOTHING! There were files that cannot be reconstructed, pictures of famly that are no longer living, etc. They said nothing was retreivable. After having spoken to other computer techs and other computer service companies, they have told me that what Micro-Tech said they did, would not have done what happened to my computer. Yes, I should have had all those files backed up on discs or flash drives but Micro-Tech never asked me if I wanted them to try to save what was on the hard drive. Of course I would have! They just wiped it all out and told me that there was nothing on any of the drives. I would have thought that if there was nothing on the any of the drives, that they would have called me and asked me about that. Not just replaced all the software throughout the system and told me later that "they thought it was strange that there was nothing there when they booted it up". I felt like none of the stories they were telling me lined up. I am not enough of a computer whiz to know what they were telling me, at first. But once I discussed the stuation with other people who are more computer saavy than I am, it started to get clearer and clearer that I and my computer had gotten screwed. I had used these people in the past and each time, it never felt quite right. Either it was more than they had estimated or There was always more needed than what was 1st the problem etc. Our company had used them in the past, as well, and neither our company or myself will use them again and I will recommend nobdy else use them as well.

We were told it would take from 3 - 4 days. We took it in on a Friday afternoon. They had not finished it by mid-afternoon on the following Thursday. They "rushed" to have it ready by 5 pm on Thursday. We asked, and paid, to have all the files saved. They ended up just reloading the operating system. They did not re-load Office even though we provided the disks. We had to re-load all the software and re-build all settings and ended up paying our business tech/network guys for a service call to re-establish email settings and network settings. Maybe this is normal but for a non-techie, I did not expect this. I thought we would at least get it back with the office software loaded and also thought their service to save files meant it would come back with more of the systems operable from plug-in. I felt like I had to be on them all the time they had it just to get it within their four-day period.
Description of Work: Took in a business laptop that was originally purchased from them and was running very slowly; asked for diagnoses and repair

The laptop would not charge the battery. After doing some research and buying a brand new battery, I determined that the DC board needed to be replaced, not something I wanted to do myself. Took it to Microtech and asked them to replace the DC board. They said they prefer to do their own diagnostic to determine the problem. They did nothing for a week and after calling, they rushed to diagnose the problem by sticking in an old battery that only charged to 5%, but otherwise worked . They assured me that the problem was with the new battery and not the computer and charged me $127. I bought an external battery charger and the battery charges just fine. The problem is with the computer. I paid them $127 to do nothing.
Description of Work: Dell laptop would not charge battery. Needed DC circuit board replaced.
