Mick was the only one who returned my call. He came out on a Saturday morning. He even gave me a 10% senior discount. Plus, he is a nice guy with a great sense of humor. He will be the first person I call for any future plumbing needs. Thank you, Mick.
Description of Work: Friday night I found a very messy flood in the laundry room in my basement. I called a few plumbers. Mick's associate, Lisa, sent me a text that Mick would call first thing in the morning. Mick called me Saturday morning and was out to my house in less than an hour. Mick found the problem - apparently a clog broke loose from the kitchen sink. I was afraid that it was a problem with the sewer line. I got lucky. Mick snaked it out, and everything is now running clear.

Surprisingly smoothly. There was a worry that the threads on the rusty old pipes would come off in the process, but Mick did a great job in managing to get the old valves off and the new ones on.

only took them 1.5 hours. included head scratching and discussion. the alternative would have been to repipe the section from the elbow out of the interior wall all the way into the basement. that would have cost over $1k. If the plumbers who piped the house had adhered to rule #2 in the section above the pipe would have never failed..
Description of Work: The kitchen sink drain pipe failed after unfaltering use since 1931. This was the year the English Tudor was built. The 1 1/2" schedule 40 pipe went through the wall after the sink drain and p trap. Once through the wall the pipe had a 90 degree elbow heading east. Instead of tilting slightly downhill to drain as it should; the plumbers in 1931 had installed a straight run of approximately 18". Of course this is contrary to plumbers rule #2. That rule being "effluent" runs downhill. Rule #1 is do not chew your fingernails. Makes sense doesn't it? Since the failed pipe was sandwiched between the interior plaster wall backside after exiting the interior and real 2"x4" studs, corrugated cardboard as effective insulation, next a layer of 1931 tarpaper, then cedar lathe, more tarpaper then finally the sturdy cedar #1 grade shake siding, N.B. my licensed contractor, friend of more than 30 years and master carpenter, handyman John Manning had carefully "deconstructed" the siding, lathe to save and rebuild so no sign of deconstruction could be detected, Tossed the tarpaper, wet cardboard to be replaced with fiberglass installation if it EVER STOPS RAINING and dries out. So Mick and William, Mick's apprentice and helper showed up and immediately figured out the solution to the problem. They cut out the split pipe into two sections, unthreaded the 87 year old pipe with great ease and replaced the faulty section by mating PVC and flex hose, glue, sealant and skill. They did have to auger out the 2"x4" stud in one place to make room for the flex sleeve. They used hose clamps to ensure no leak. Since there is no pressure on a drain pipe the fix will last longer than the galvanized schedule 40 pipe.

Excellent service! He was punctual both when coming to give a quote and the day of the service. Pleasant, honest and easy to work with. When he found out that I had a contractor delivering the cabinets for the laundry room, he volunteered to come on Sat at his regular price to ensure the plumbing was ready for the cabinets as he was booked up the rest of the week. The laundry room was spotless when they left. Above and beyond what was requested. I would not hesitate to recommend him to others and use his services in the future!

The problem started with my washing machine drainpipe backing up. Mick snaked it, but results weren't great. He looked under the house and found that the primary drainpipe of my '49 house was smaller than current code, and that it had rusted at a connection and had been tarred to mitigate that problem, which would've been before I bought the house in '03. I decided to upgrade the pipe regardless of whether that would ultimately fix the drainage issue as it just sounded like a wise thing to do. Mick flat out stated that if that didn't do the trick, I'd need to get another plumber in to track down the clog (camera work, probably to the city main). I went for it. He did the work as scheduled, was very friendly, cleaned up very well after himself, and the job worked—everything's draining perfectly now. The pipe he removed was a horror show—it was completely filled with solid gunk. No wonder the snake had little effect. And I'm now confident that the pipe will perform and not fail, which would cause a lot of problems. I didn't grade Mick on price as I got no competitive bids, so I have no idea if his pricing and job time were reasonable for the work performed.

We had a pipe burst in our basement and needed someone to come over on a weekend right away to repair. Mick answered our call right away and was at our house within a couple of hours right when he said he would be. I instantly felt relieved when he seemed to know exactly what the problem was and that it's something that he frequently fixes. He gave me a very reasonable estimate and was done with the work that day right on budget. We really appreciated his professionalism and his great work and will definitely call him again should we have the need for a plumber.

Mick is wonderful. We have used him for at least four jobs. He is tidy, on time and very knowledgeable. When he was unable to find a replacement part, he went to Beaumont Hardware and they together rebuilt the part we had.
Description of Work: Mick was able to unplug our tub, but also had to replace some pipes. He had to remove some of the wall outside the bathroom to get to the pipes. It took him a long time and his price was reasonable.

I called to ask for a quote on a job for a home I was purchasing. I had a question about correcting the existing gas water heater installation, which was done by someone else. I also had a question about how to get right amount of combustion supply air to the room. He quickly said that that wasn't something they do and promptly ended the phone call even though that was a small portion of what I was needing help on. Very unprofessional.

I have a fairly new Grohle kitchen faucet. Water pressure pushed out the elbow which holds the spout to the main stem of the faucet. I called Grohle, was on hold for 25 minutes, was assisted by someone there who was really requiring me to essentially be a plumber with all the right tools. (I will never purchase from Grohle again....). I went to the hardware store and was told by an employee to call Mick. Mick came very quickly. I think we were lucky to catch him not far from our neighborhood. Anyway, at first he didn't think he could fix the thing. But, with my husband helping, he got the part put back together. It works. Could hold for 5 years, could break again tomorrow. In the meantime, I am thankful to Mick. But, I will go out to purchase a new Moen or Delta faucet and get Mick back over to install it!

Kitchen faucet sprayer hose had detached from the sprayer head and was firmly lodged in the back of the faucet. I was unable to either pull it back out or advance it forward from below due to the contours of the fixture. It wasn't a technically complex problem, but did require the right tools, knowledge of plumbing anatomy, and a bit of finesse. Mick was able to accomplish the task.

I'm renovating the kitchen in my 1930's house, and having the backsplash redone. In order to install the backsplash, my kitchen faucet had to be removed. Unfortunately, my house has old galvanized piping and no shut off valve under the sink. Mick came out right away when I called to give me an estimate (it helps that he is located near me in N. Portland). He told me that it was not a simple thing to install a shut off valve under the sink, and that it would involve replacing the entire galvanized pipe (which would involve tearing up walls etc). The original scope of work was to remove the faucet, install a longer nipple to accomodate new tile, install a new shutoff valve under the sink for the dishwasher, and install a new braided cord line between the valve and dishwasher. Quote was for 335 for all of this. It turns out the valve and cord were harder to replace (non-standard pipe width, and installing the cord would have involved pulling out the entire dishwasher), and so he offered to take 100 dollars off the price..which I accepted. My dishwasher runs fine, so I'm ok with that outcome. Removing the faucet was extremely dicey and I'm glad I hired a professional for this part. The old faucet was connected via rusted out nipples to the pipe, and if the pipe was damaged.. it would have resulted in potentially a lot of damage. Mick was able to get both nipples out, install fresh nipples of an appropriate length for tiling, and cap them off. (Note: Because the pipe was so old Mick wouldn't guarantee that removing the nipple wouldn't damage the pipe.) Overall I'm very happy and would use Mick again.

I know that diagnosing leaks can be very difficult, but after identifying that it was coming from the shower, they threw several buckets of water down the pipes they basically said: "We can't figure out where this is coming from-it's probably an all over shower pan problem, you should have someone come in, pull out the pan, and tile over everything. Call us when they are tiling and we'll hook up the plumbing." Extremely inconclusive, and all for $250. A few weeks later, my husband finally got around to looking at it and he poured several glasses of water down the shower drain, each time pouring water on different parts--directly down the middle once, then only on the flange, etc.. He identified exactly where the leak is coming from, and it's a pretty easy fix. Much easier than the more than $3k that we were quoted to have the tile work done that Mick recommended. Leaks can be notoriously hard to diagnose, but it seems like they hardly tried with this one.
Description of Work: Woke up one morning to paint bubbling in our kitchen ceiling, right below and upstairs bathroom. I was so pleased when Mick's Plumbing was available to look at it that day. They cut a whole in the drywall of the ceiling and tried to diagnose the problem--poked around and threw several buckets of water down the drain in the shower.
