My chimney is only 35 years old but the masonry above the roof line had all fallen out, and the cap was cracked in several places and was not connected to the chimney. Adam came and inspected the chimney, gave several suggestions, and then emailed a quote to me. When I accepted the quote, he said they could do it the next day if it was convenient. They showed up on time, completed the work, and then did a very thorough cleanup. The chimney looks great, and I am confident it will now last a great deal longer than 35 years.

The trick was to remove the brick hearth without damaging the surrounding laminate flooring. Adam Luchs and his helper arrived promptly, and performed the task quickly. They were successful and no damage was done to the flooring. He cleaned up the site and removed the debris. I would definitely use Marathon Masonry again.

I had a very small masonry project and got several bids for the work. Not only was Adam's quote one of the most reasonable, he was by far the most responsive. I could tell that, even though it was a small job, he wanted to be accurate with the pricing. He asked several questions and requested pictures then promptly provided an estimate. I hired him for the job and he and one other person came over and had it done in no time. When they finished, Adam charged me less than he originally quoted as the job went more quickly than expected. I had them remove some brick shelves built into a brick fireplace surround so I could hang a painting there. Adam offered to come back when I had the painting to install it (as it requires a specific drill bit and screw). I highly recommend Adam and Marathon Masonry and will definitely call again for any future masonry needs.

Very well. Because it was a small job, Adam and his assistant arrived with the bricks, bar and everything needed for the removal and installation. They were on time, covered everything to protect it from the dust, very neat (hosed down area at the end of each workday). Adam gave us a bid on sealing the brick but said that we would be able to do it. He has since emailed the name of the product and the suppliers name. He also assisted me in finding a gutter company.
Description of Work: Replaced decorative brick around garage door. Replaced sagging angle-bar over garage door with longer and heavier duty bar. Popped about 15 loose and broken bricks out of another wall and replaced them.

Adam was very responsive from the first phone call and estimate throughout the job. Normally I get three estimates, but he rated so high on Angie’s list, I only got his and allowed him to do the work. In addition to my job, he was FORCED to work with the arborist in order to have the roots cut so the same thing would not happen again. He even offered to cut the roots -- but admitted had no training in this. Initially, his estimate was too steep for me and he worked with me to lessen it. That was very good, but the BEST part was his keeping me informed every step of the way. Another remarkable thing, he went above-and-beyond by fixing an accident blatantly caused by never reported nor repaired by the arborist who cut the electric line to my ground lighting. Adam went to the store and bought the supplies to fix this without my knowledge without cost to me! The job was to be done in one day; however, the bricks were not the exact match so he had to order them and return another day. He let me know this and came back the next working day (as the 4th of July was in between). By doing so he did a seamless and beautiful job. No, PERFECT job. Adam was better than I expected or even could imagine. His work ethic and communication were remarkable. It is without reservation that I would recommend him to anyone.
Description of Work: Tree roots had caused my brick walk to rise and crack quite badly. He had to cut into that (and cement underneath) and artistically replace the bricks -- making sure they matched the original less than 1954greater than type. He also did maintence in the back where the spaces between bricks were cracked and broken -- to prevent worse problems.

I had first emailed Adam about my brick repair and when I didn't get a response I decided to call him. It turns out that an old email address that he doesn't use anymore is showing up on Angie's List so he didn't get my message. I am so glad that I followed up with a phone call. I had called other contractors about this job but was told that it was too small. Adam was so nice and he made the time to fit me in and even did a little mortar repair for no additional cost. I really appreciated that. You can bet that when I have my front brick walkway redone Adam will be the one to do the work. Thanks again Adam.

Adam came over and carefully measured the area where I needed the concrete removed. He spent extra time to give me an estimate and to arrange for the dumpsters. The work was clearly outlined in the estimate, there were no hidden costs. I was not home the day the work was done and was appreciative of how clean the area was left due to the nature of the work and the small area that I had for them to remove the old concrete. I appreciated his flexibility, direct and professional focus on his work.
Description of Work: I had a large concrete patio and basketball hoop removed. Adam arranged the dumpsters and hauling per my request and the cost is not included in this price since it was thru another company.

I contacted Adam and 3 other contractors for estimates on repairing a small brick wall adjacent to the front steps of my home. I selected Adam because his bid was competitive and he was always responsive, answered all my questions, punctual and did a great job. We are especially pleased that the wall blended in well with the other brick work in that area so it does not look like it's been repaired or re-built.

Could be a really awesome contractor, but it did not show in his dealings with me (Andy Luck). Responded to my email with request for pictures, which I was glad to provide. Told me he would call and come by on a specific day, did not do so, has not called, and did not reply to two email check-ins. A good reminder why you should always get multiple bids and not just go with a company that has a few good reports.

Response from Marathon Masonry Inc
I never did receive any follow up emails. Are you sure they were sent to the email on my site? I am not a pushy contractor so when I never heard from you I assumed you went a different direction. I would be happy to bid the work if you still need it done. I hope members will give me a quick call if they didn't get a response from a email, just to make sure it went through. Thank you - Adam Luchs

Adam is a pleasure to work with. He is a professional, prompt, and upstanding guy and he does meticulous work. We called for an estimate and he got back to us with different options very quickly. He did an excellent job of explaining things and wanted to make sure we were on the same page. The stone work was tedious and he and his employee took great care to complete things to our satisfaction. We had a question afterwards and he went out of his way to return on a Sunday morning to make sure we were completely satisfied. We would highly recommend this company and plan to book them again, this fall, for some work on our fireplaces.
Description of Work: Adam cleaned out and re-grouted exterior front steps and window sills. Cleaned out and regrouted stone work on face of house. Also removed as much paint as possible from previously applied paint to grout lines and overspill onto stone.

Description of Work: Adam and his team did a fantastic job re-building a brick wall we have in front of our house. Adam was very pleasant to work with. He checked with me as he constructed the fireplace to discuss the design of the fireplace before it was mortared in place. He would offer his opinion on the design elements but was open to any ideas/changes from me because he wanted to ensure that I would be happy with the end product. The fireplace looks wonderful and Adam was great to work with!
Description of Work: Adam built an outdoor gas fireplace on our new deck. We had purchased a gas insert and he constructed a brick fireplace to surround it (using bricks that he found to match our existing indoor fireplace). He also added some additional support posts directly under the fireplace to further support the deck.

We recently purchased an older poorly maintained home with a lot of decaying outdoor masonry, including a crumbling patio wall, garden retaining wall and brick tree rings. We had 3 estimates for the job and decided to go with Marathon Masonry for several reasons. First Adam‘s estimate was very reasonable and fit our budget. He offered us a couple of options for fixing the garden retaining wall, one of which was to replace the bricks with dry stack stone. This saved us several hundred dollars and looks really good. Second our patio wall is topped by a flat brick that is no longer made in the original color. Some of the bricks were so badly broken that they could not be fixed. Adam was able to find bricks that closely matched the originals and prevented us from having to completely change out all of the top bricks. Finally Adam is very friendly and easy to work with. Adam and his crew did all of the work mentioned above within 2 weeks of our agreeing to the estimate. The job took 2 days and was done very well. It totally met our expectations.

It went very well. Adam responded promptly to my first call for a bid (I got three). Between poor weather and my travel schedule the work was done a few months later, but when I did call him to say it was a good time for us, he was there the following Monday morning. The total job took two days, and much of the time was spent with the scaffolding since our house is very tall and very close to our neighbors very tall house - it was an awkward spot. But they rose to the challenge, completed the job quickly and left everything tidy and undisturbed. Since the work was done on the roof it isn't something I can easily see but it looked great from the street (and my neighbor also had compliments for how nice the cap looked when done) and Adam sent me six photos he took when the job was done to show me the finished product. I was very pleased with the whole process.
Description of Work: Bricks were falling to the ground from the exterior chimney on our 100 year old house. Marathon redid the top section that had come loose, ground out all the joints down to the roof line, retucked with mortar and adhesive, installed a new concrete cap and recaulked the flashing.

One reason we went with Marathon was Adam's ability to take my verbal information and give me a concisely written quote for work to be done. They had to remove part of our fence along the side of the house so they could get the scaffolding setup. When they were done, they put it back just as it was before. Chimney looks great and the hole in basement from old wood stove was filled in nicely. All in all, they did all this in one day and we are very happy with their work. We would certainly call on them again if we need more masonry work done on our home!
Description of Work: Needed work on chimney which consisted of tuck pointing above the roofline, flashing around chimney, install cap for no longer used flue (old oil furnace) and fill hole in basement wall from wood stove flue we wanted removed.

He came out very quickly. I was impressed that he responded right away and gave us an estimate very quickly. They were pleasant, prompt, and very nice to deal with. I thought that Adam brought some observations of a design that I thought was really good, things that I have not thought about. We would of picked them if not for our other estimate.

As I recall, they didn't give us a quote, because they were concerned that the work to be done was far more expensive than what we were asking for. They were also concerned that their repairs wouldn't work that well. We went back to two other companies. I asked another company's opinion on Marathon's opinion, and they agreed. I was surprised by their honesty. We'll go back for another quote.

The chimney on my house was in pretty bad shape. I was starting to see bits of grout and sometimes entire bricks lying on the ground, so finally decided it was time to get it fixed. The chimney extends approx 12 feet above my roof line where most of the deterioration had occurred. I made an appointment with Adam to come give me an estimate. He was very professional, knowledgeable, and not the least bit pushy. That evening he emailed me an estimate with a detailed description of the work. I thought it over for a few days and then decided to hire him. We had to wait for a clear day, which took a couple weeks, then he and his crew came and spent an entire day performing all the work. Afterward, they cleaned up and hosed everything down -- even the dust that had fallen off into the street -- leaving everything very clean. The chimney looks great now. Upon leaving, Adam told me that he warranties his work and if anything went wrong in the next few years to give him a call.
Description of Work: Ground out and re-grouted chimney from roof line up. All joints washed and re-grouted with type-s mortar and adhesive for better bond. New concrete cap installed on top along with new flashing at the roof line. Loose bricks removed and re-laid on the top 18". Acid wash done to clean the brick.
