 + -1 moreMy Paisley came to my home to give me the estimate (I thought anyway). Turns out that he wants close to $500 just to give me an estimate! He seemed upset that I was going to get competitive bids and not just trust him carte blance. After finding out I was going to get competitive bids he told he had to be paid for his estimate because he didn't like working for free.
Description of Work: I contacted John Paisley for an estimate for an addition and remodeling project.

 + -1 moreUp front, I want to say that we did get what we paid for (which was a lot), and my only gripe is that we were not kept apprised of how much over the estimate we were going to go. We did add some things on as the project continued, but my husband did not think that the over-run would be as high as it was. The contractor is a very pleasant man and we also thought highly of all of the subcontractors that he hired. His foreman, in particular, was excellent. However, the estimate that the foreman gave as the work was about to be finished was about $5K less than what it ended up to be. This made the financing issue kind of touchy. On top of that, the contractor told us that we had been remiss in paying some invoices, and we were thoroughly unsure of what he was talking about. Also, as we did not anticipate such a great cost over-run, we are having to find creative ways to pay the extra on which we are being charged monthly interest. I realize that this is not a cradle to grave overall assessment, but, in a word, the biggest problem with this contractor is POOR COMMUNICATION.
Description of Work: We had our side porch turned into a sun-room with the 1920 period details of our Dutch Colonial.
