Jane and David came to my home a few times to discuss my ideas for the large driveway gate before the project started. It was very helpful when they took a picture of my home with my car in the driveway and showed what the gate would look like behind the car and next to the house. They took into account everything from the slope of the driveway to how it stylistically fit with my house. Very helpful. Pleasant and easy to work with and schedule. David has come out since that time to tweak a couple features and has been very responsive. I get many compliments on the gate and I would definitely use them again.

Jane and David came to my house to plan the project. Jane is wonderfully gifted with sketching details of the plan as we chat, and it's quite amazing to watch your (rather vague) thoughts land on paper and actually start to become something real. Sketch, sketch--revise--more like this, or like that? Or something else entirely? Jane does the artistic cut-outs, David does the posts and major fence building portions. While Jane and I would discuss the appearance of something, David often had ideas of how we should do that structurally--and in many instances, this somehow sparked a better idea entirely. The two of them work together so very well--it is definitely a joint effort, from start to finish. And of course they kept me involved in the discussions and decisions. I think we revised and fine-tuned things 100 times over as we went along, because we kept coming up with new small little improvements or details. I think David installed/re-installed the gate (and specialty hinge) at least 3 times until he was absolutely certain it was perfect: I didn't have to ask him or insist on it, but rather he did it again simply because he thought it should be a fraction of an inch better, smoother, etc. I'm pretty sure if something wasn't 100% straight or perfect, David wouldn't sleep at night. Same with Jane...even in the final stages of the fence being done, she was still wandering about doing last-minute fine-tuning sanding in tiny little recesses of routed-out or cut-out images. It had looked totally fine to me, but apparently to her, there was still microscopic room for finesse. This is the sort of personal pride in a job well-done that is nearly absent with most people. The overall price hurt a bit, but I also decided early on that I wanted something of good quality and that was unique. Soon I will have forgotten the cost, but I'll still have this amazing fence/gate-entryway/arbor. Easy-going, tremendously conscientious about the quality of their work, a joy to work with, creative...I just can't recommend Jane Hart Meyers and David Meyers (Jane Hart Design) enough.
Description of Work: I've had a section of my yard alongside the house that has been basically JUST DIRT. And I've looked at it from every angle for 4 years without any great idea of what to ultimately do with it. And then I saw Jane & David's website (www.janesbackyard.com) and just could not look away from all of the amazing custom fencing. They were quick to respond, and plainly I was launched into seeing my half-baked idea become so much more than I thought it could ever be. Jane & David created a custom fence, gate, and arbor--overall, created a "cool & shady green room" alongside my house. There are highly detailed decorative cut-outs throughout; no two panels are the same. The cut-outs will allow annual climbing vines to scale up the fence (without need of additional trellising), then up onto the free-standing arbor (shading the hottest side of my house). In winter, the vines will die back so that I can appreciate the fence on its own again. The gate/entry way is amazing (replica of the St Johns bridge!), and turned out so much better than I ever could have imagined.
