For the basement, Jack came up with a fantastic design that completely changed what I thought was possible with the space, as well as thinking of ways to bring light in so it doesn't feel like a basement. I now rent the basement on Airbnb and people just love the space-- it's generating more income than I ever would have thought. With the ADU project, he continues to impress me with the creativity and thoughtfulness he brings to his craft. In particular I've really appreciated his knowledge and enthusiasm for energy efficiency and sustainability-- the building will be Portland's first certified Net Zero ADU! I hadn't thought Net Zero was within reach until Jack suggested a new cutting-edge approach to HVAC that was a game changer. It's safe to say that it's very unlikely that I would have arrived at a Net Zero design within my budget without Jack's involvement. What's more, because of his tremendous attention to detail and thoroughness, the permitting process was smooth, quick as it gets, and hassle free-- an uncommon feat! You'd be hard pressed to find a better architect.

We greatly enjoyed working with Jack and he helped us get through a massive remodel of our house when we had never done this size of project before. He understood our end goal for the house remodel and how our family wanted to use the various living spaces, and he was able to translate our vision into a practical and elegant design. He is a good listener and was able to balance aesthetics with practical considerations. Our contractor also had a good working relationship with him, and that helped our project go more smoothly. He worked with our wish list and our total budget for the remodel, and gave sound advice when priority decisions had to be made without ever being pushy or imposing. We LOVE the end result of our project and enjoy our house so much more now that the layout and flow of the rooms truly works for our family.

To follow-up… Our project took over a year and is now complete. The designs worked-out great and the house turned out beautiful. We went from dark and dated to open, airy and modern. Throughout construction we only had one significant modification I can remember which required changes to the plans after construction started (which was driven by an unforeseen city requirement) and Jack took care of it ASAP. I would highly recommend Jack for any project requiring a skilled architect.

Everything was great. He was a very committed professional. I added to the footprint of my house. He came up with three different design options, and he was very committed to ensuring that it was a very beautiful addition.

Jack is just wonderful. He is a great listener and didn't interrupt me as I told him all about what I wanted to do with this project, all my dreams and expectations. Really a great guy. I pulled him up into the attic and down into the basement so he could get the full feel and he didn't balk at all. He has a calm demeanor and a patient way about him making it easy to explain my expectations and ideas. He is just a wonderful guy.
