We discussed with the girl at their desk inside IKEA if they would cut the hole for the electrical outlet and were assured they would. The guy who came to do the job refused to cut the hole because "how do I know what size hole to cut". We had to pay an electrician extra time to cut the hole. When we complained we were told the owner of the company would call us. No call. Stopped ins store 5 days later, Wes told they emailed the owner and would "make this right". fast forward 4 more days still no call but we got a invoice! Husband called store and complained and 10 minutes later got a call basically blaming us for the issue, no attempt to make anything "right". Apparentlywe were supposed to have the box handy but nobody ever mentioned that to us. The installer had to go get lumber at Home Depot and never mentioned the box to or gave me the option to go get one. Bottom line is the communication within this company seems poor and we needed information we were not given nor did we feel the person who called us had any interest in customer satisfaction. The work quality as far as the cabinet install goes is excellent but wouldn't use this company again because of the lack of customer service, or willingness to make good on promises given even though there was time to make things right.

Description of Work: Good & bad: Entire kitchen remodel down to the subfloors & lathe & plaster. Used The Kitchen Helpers @ IKEA to measure & design kitchen: Excellent service! Within 3 hours, we had the entire design in 3D, with shopping list. |Used The Kitchen Helpers @IKEA for demolition, contractor, assembly, etc.: Mixed. The Kitchen Helpers paperwork organizer/person who executed contracts was inconsistent & we almost walked away from the whole project. Getting signed contract completed with Jen felt like a tooth extraction. The contractor they use, however, Fine Line Construction, was a gem. They showed up exactly when they said they would, did everything wonderfully, professionally, and on time. They were a joy to work with.

My wife and I visited the Ikea near the airport.. We were dismayed and frightened that on the exterior of the building stated "weapon free environment"... this means that Ikea is a very dangerous place to go. I contacted a person who presumably was the manager at least he was answering my questions as if he were in management and yes he admitted that Ikea was a weapon free environment... Why is this an issue..? Because 98% of all mass murders are done in so called gun free zones as this is the number one criteria mass murderers look for because they know that they can cause maximum damage to human life before the police arrive... FBI states that the average response time to a mass murder is 20 minutes. Now in the mass murder in the Clackamas Town Center the murder was stopped by a CHL ( a licensed concealed handgun owner) simply by pointing his gun at the murderer... Now he could not take a shot because he did not have a clear shot without endangering innocent people... CHL holders are trained to know when they can shoot and when they should not... Now the murderer saw the CHL holder pointing his firearm and all the fun was done for the murderer... even though the CHL citizen did not take the shot it was enough for the murderer to decide to take his own life... The police arrived some time later... Ikea is dangerous.. we won't ever go there again, and cannot recommend anyone else do either. Now the thing that really bothered me was that the manager was either misinformed or was outright lying as he said because Ikea was on property owned by the airport federal law prohibits legal firearms... I checked with my attorney to find this to be false in fact it is legal to walk right into an airport carrying my firearm... I just cannot take it through security. Shame Ikea... you have a dangerous place to go, and I cannot recommend anyone go to your dangerous place of business for their own safety.

We bought a sectional couch at ikea and wanted it delivered. Delivery showed up in the exact time frame they had said. That never happens. Good job. I still think Ikea is a funhouse and it makes me nervous, but I was impressed with an accurate delivery time.

I am generally displeased by Ikea's return policy, but tonight went over the top. I have people tell me they don't even keep receipts anymore because so many businesses can't scan your credit cards for any purchases made within the last 90 days. Not at Ikea. It's Not Okay, You Can't Bring it Back, should be their slogan. You are typically treated like a hobo if you don't have your receipt. Even if you fork over 2 or 3 other receipts and are missing it for 1 $7 item, you turn into a swarthy thief (at least that is how you are made to feel by the Ikea staff). But tonight was so bad, I don't care how cute your stuff is I won't be back. I hope the $7 was worth this claim, the one to BBB, and posting it on my facebook status to my 250 friends. Tonight Samantha tried to not help me by being silent went I asked questions, ignoring my requests, rolling her eyes at me when I said I couldn't find the receipt for 1 out of 4 items I returned (a $7.50 item), and rolling them again when I asked why is Ikea's return policy not like Home Depot's, Lowe's, and Targets? Samantha stated that the item was opened, I said I had returned other opened things? But without a receipt? No, but what does that matter? (On another trip I found out that they can look up your stuff on your credit card, but not only do you have to KNOW that EXACT date you bought it, they'll STILL ONLY issue you a STORE CREDIT as "payment" for their "TROUBLE.") Samantha provided no answer. Why can't you guys have a policy like L, HD, or Target? No answer. She hands me my receipt for credit. (I had thought since she didn't reply she was going to do something about it) The replies that I were able to get from her were always with a surly undertone. So what are we going to do about this? "nothing" May I speak to the manager? Myra comes over in a huff, acting like I am bothering her, and says, Uh, that is a no, it is opened." Again, I feel like I am being talked to my the principal of a school after doing something naughty in kindergarden judging my the tone of her voice and body language. I say, "Fine, I'll just file a claim with the BBB." Myra says, "Fine." and walks back to her windowed control center. Neither of them look at me. I go back to ask Samantha her name and she gives it to me, in a snotty voice, again without looking up. No where on Ikea's policy does it say you can't return something that is opened, it only says you can't return something that is cut or used. It wasn't used, and they never asked me if it was. It still had the crease marks from the package on it! Your policy also doesn't say you can't get a store credit on an item that is opened without a receipt. All of your things are from Ikea, it isn't like you can't bring something from another store and try to return it. I don't understand what the bait and switch is for. I bought these linens in the wrong size by mistake. When took it out of the package and tried to put it on the bed I realized it. I put it back in the package and tried to find the receipt and when I couldn't I hoped someone could be reasonable. Instead it seems that staff is trained here to be rude, and that $7 is more important than my patronage as I remodel my entire house. You know though, what really p***** me off is being treated like a dog my your staff. I didn't get a master's degree, buy my first house in Portland by myself to get treated like less than human by your staff. I don't care how cute your stuff is.
Description of Work: I've been buying hundreds of dollars worth of stuff at Ikea since I bought my first house in April. I am completely remodeling it inside and out and decorating it.

Some items are good and some are absolutely crap. My advice would be that if it has to function, don't buy it at IKEA. If its only job is to sit there, it will be fine.

I was reluctant to buy from a tax-evading giant corporation instead of a local business. However, my shopping turned up ugly, cumbersome furniture instead of the simple design I wanted. The Ikea furniture is beautifully designed and very functional. We brought everything home in one load and assembled the pieces ourselves, which was very satisfying.

The ordering process was not as easy as we thought from the initial impression we had of their system. We designed the kitchen using their downloadable kitchen designer program, but when we tried to save our design (after a lot of effort getting the layout just right) to their central server, we kept getting server down messages so we couldn't save it to their server. In short, we had to recreate the design again at the store, since they do not allow you to use a thumb drive or any other device to transfer the saved design at the store. Once we ordered the cabinets, it took about 2 weeks longer than they said it would to get them. When they finally came, the delivery truck just appeared on a Saturday with no prior warning. Luckily, we were home at the time! Apparently their former delivery company backed out of their contract and IKEA had to use a different company. Fortunately, our order was correct, though. It was very difficult to verify the order, however, since IKEA lists every little part as a separate item on the invoice and does not bundle the parts with the cabinets. Cabinet construction and installation went well, except for some rookie mistakes on our part. Some of the instructions are a bit hard to follow, since they have no text - just pictures. The cabinets, while not nearly the quality of custom cabinets, look great and have some very nice features such as quiet-closing doors and drawers and handy drawer organizers.
Description of Work: We ordered all of our kitchen cabinets from IKEA Portland and assembled them ourselves. We used their design program from home to design our layout and then ordered the cabinets in-store. We installed the cabinets ourselves using their installation instructions.
