Im not interested in having this company repair or sell me anything else. Ever. Our absolute lowest rating.
Description of Work: Horrible customer service after you buy a stove here! I spent almost $5000 After several calls I got one back. I was told she would get back to me and no call again.... we just spent Christmas freezing with no fire after spending hundreds on wood and kindling.

Description of Work: We bought a new gas fireplace insert. It was installed by a subcontractor, who did a fine job. But the responsiveness of the retail store was sadly lacking. Phone calls and emails had to be done multiple times to accomplish anything. They certainly seemed knowledgeable about their products, just too disorganized to effectively communicate with customers. |

looked through catalog in store and floor models. worked with store owner to pick the best stove for my house. ordered stove and set installation date with the installer. They installed stove in one day. Installation cost a little more than i had planned as they had to go out side of house. I had planned to use my chimney which would have cost less but it was already in use by a separate device. Installer was very professional and did a great job. Sherry who works in the store is very kind and a joy to work with.
Description of Work: delivered stove. installed stove and exhaust. had to cut through wall and roof to install piping.

We wanted to get a fireplace insert for our 1926 bungalow because our fireplace smoked when we burned wood, and created an air vacuum when we weren't burning anything, making the house colder. We originally visited Gordon's Fireplace, but all of their inserts required electric fans. This would mean we would have to have an electrician hardwire power into the fireplace OR an ugly cord would reach out of the fireplace into a nearby plug. This wasn't appealing to us. We visited Homestead and realized that we could get one of their inserts and not need a fan. We were very pleased. I also liked the way their inserts looked much better than others I had seen. I ended up getting an adorable little insert with fretwork on the bottom and metal doors that open and close. It's very and quot;cottageand quot; and cute and has a remote and convenient automatic settings. The insert fits the personality of our house very well. We ordered exactly what we wanted and used Homestead's recommended gas contractor to do the install (All Fuel--another $800 to install). Everything went very smoothly with the install. Last winter was our first winter with the insert and I think we used our whole-house furnace twice (mostly just to make sure it was still working.) I spend about the same amount of money on my winter gas bill that I was before I got the insert, but our house is warmer. Not to mention that the dogs absolutely love it and lay in front of it all winter (actually, so does the husband). This insert was the best upgrade I have done on my house and was totally worth the money. Homestead Stoves did a great job!
Description of Work: We got a Valor gas fireplace insert from them in Oct 2010.

Went into Homestead shopping for a wood stove insert for my fireplace. Out of all the places I went to or called, which was about 10, they had the best customer service. Greg and his partner were very informative and answered all my questions. Other places were talked to were misinformed, misquoted us prices and did not return calls. At the time I went they were having a sale and it was $200 off any stove purchased. Some dealers do not offer any discounts. I really wanted to buy from this company, but their installer did not feel comfortable putting a liner into our tall and difficult chimney. We had to go with a different dealer's stove even though it was more expensive and their customer service sucked. The other dealer's installer was confident he could do the job when he came out for an estimate or no charge to us. I would go with Homestead if I had to buy another wood stove.

I have a gas-log stove that kept losing its thermostat connection and hence power. I called Homestead intending to hire them to perform service. When I explained the problem, though, they said they would fix it if I wanted, but Sherry also explained in detail how I could fix it myself. It is an easy fix and she saved me the cost of having them come out. She was patient and repeated the info at least twice so I could make sure I understood, then gave me a couple of other things I could look at while I'm at it that will save me additional future trouble. This company is a class act.
Description of Work: I got information to do a simple repair myself and saved myself the cost of a service call.

I had several people come out and he has been the nicest and the most professional person I wanted to show about my house. He returned my call after business hours. He came to my house last evening. He came again this morning. I have a funky fireplace. It was built in 1971. It is not a traditional fireplace. He knew what I was talking about. Some of the other people I called quoted $140 to come and take a look at it. One person did not have a clue about what I was talking. This person understood what I was talking about. He was punctual and he showed up on time. He was great. He did not charge me anything to come out and see the fireplace. The prices were better than the other people who did not know what I was talking about. The other person quoted $3000 but the initial price of Homestead Stove was less than that. He did not know the answers to some of my questions. He was honest about it but he was going to look them up for me. I liked that attitude of his.

We were so happy with Homestead Stove Company. I found the company on Angie's List and visited the company website and found it very informative. My family visited their store and there was a nice selection of stove options. Debbie and Greg were there and were very courteous and helpful. We had not purchased a wood burning insert before. Debbie asked questions to determine the best stove to meet our needs. We decided to have Greg come for a free inspection so he could give us a more informed recommendation. Greg called the next day to set up the home appointment. He arrived on time and worked with my husband to educate him about our chimney and what and how the work would be done to insert a new stove. We felt very informed after this visit and purchased the stove the next day. That same day the installer called and got us on his calendar. We were told that once Labor Day weekend hits they are very busy so it was nice that we shopped and purchased in August. The installer called the day before the appointment to reconfirm with us. He arrived early and was ready to get to work. He covered my carpet in front of the fireplace and used his shopvac to capture the ash while cleaning the fireplace in preparation for the new stove. He removed the old insert and took it with him. He took time to explain what he was doing and why he did it. He gave us good tips on how best to use our new stove. He gave my husband a quick "lesson" on how to operate it before he left. He left the area clean and there was no sheet metal debris left behind after he finished.
Description of Work: We purchased an Avalon Pendleton wood burning fireplace insert from Greg Bishop for our brick fireplace in the basement. The old wood burning insert was removed and hauled away.

We walked into the shop with very little knowledge of stoves, and Greg was extremely helpful. After talking to Greg we checked out a few other shops. Greg offered an accurate estimate and handled hiring the subcontractor for the install. We found Homestead Stove to be highly professional with excellent customer service.

The staff and installer at Homestead nothing short of fantastic; fun and knowledgeable; no question too ''stupid'' for them...really patient with those just ''looking'' and I stuck with them through that stage and finally purchased. My mom agrees that it's the best purchase I've made for my home. Totally pleased with results and their professionalism. Highly recommended.

THE SELECTION OF STOVES FROM HOMESTEAD STOVE CO. WAS INCREDIBLE. THEY WERE CAREFUL TO KEEP WITHIN CODE WHEN THEY INSTALLED OUR STOVE, SO THEY PUT MY MIND AT EASE BECAUSE I WAS A LITTLE NERVOUS ABOUT AN INSERT DUE TO THE FACT THAT MY MOTHER'S HOUSE BURNT DOWN BECAUSE OF AN INSERT.
