Grasstains LLC

We worked with Grasstains on a massive project for our backyard. They installed several steel retaining walls, over 70 steel stairs, steel fencing and gates, leveled the backyard, installed turf grass, a massive irrigation system, added lighting, a fire pit and plantings. The backyard and access to our backyard have been completely transformed to a gorgeous and useful space for family and friends. The team took on a very difficult design and executed it beautifully. The team was professional, neat, hard working, kind, responsive and patient. I will highly recommend Grasstains for any and all landscaping projects.

Our backyard looks dramatically better than it did before. Grasstains delivered highly professional results, good communication and were good about change orders throughout the process. They also provided very good input and advice on design, implementation details, and other elements that made the results better than we expected. They were not the cheapest bid (on the premium end of pricing, in fact) but the results were very high quality. They kept things clean and tidy throughout the process, and kept us informed about progress without us having to ask.

The list of problems we had is too long to describe here, but let it suffice to say that the incompetence we experienced from both the owner and the crew was astonishing. Perhaps more importantly, we discovered over the course of the project that the owner is an incredibly dishonest person. It was by far the worst experience with a contractor we've ever had. I was forced to play the role of a foreman as most of the work was done incorrectly. We were told the project would take a week. It took six weeks. That should give you a good idea of what it was like. It was a nightmare. We ultimately had to file a claim with the Oregon LCB - which we won. I would advise anyone considering hiring this company to do some research first. Search online for the Oregon LCB meeting minutes... specifically for claims against Grasstains LLC and/or Matt Holt. There have been several, all of which he's lost. I truly regret not doing this before hiring them!
