This entire project was marked by this contractor's delay and dishonesty. Overall, from when we first called him (Steve Runyon, the owner) until we last saw him it was six weeks, although he said the project would take a few days and he was ready to do it. In late March he said that he was ready to begin work and urged us to select plants at Seven Dees, the local nursery; he said would pick them up, pay for them and install them that week. We would reimburse him and thus receive the contractor discount. He backed out on this; we found he was not on the nursery's contractor list. After a lot of hassle and excuses from him, we ended up paying for the plants. This would have been fine, as we got the discount, except that he delayed more and our plants sat dying in nursery pots outside our house for nearly 3 weeks. While we were originally not in a rush, once we had several hundred dollars' worth of plants wilting outside, after latest date that he said he would complete work, we were pretty annoyed. He then transplanted a number of plants into wheelbarrows, before putting them into the ground, which weakened them more. Although he holds himself out as a "full service landscaper", he clearly knows little about plants. We hired him to remove unwanted plants, especially mint, and till deep into the soil; we realized that in places he had not tilled and just put a thin layer of soil on top. The weeds are completely back. He never explained why did not complete his work and we gave up trying to get him to perform; he never put up a trellis as promised, and acted surprised by the suggestion. He did not put in brick steps of any sort, as he promised; he just piled some broken flagstones that we had on hand. They were unstable and a trip hazard. He made some vague excuses, and also tried to blame his employees. We would never recommend him. We had to call him repeatedly to get him to keep working. Our yard looks bad and will require more work and expense.
Description of Work: We contracted to have weeds and unwanted plants removed, to have our front yard tilled with soil amendment, to have a gravel walkway laid down and to have new plants installed. These items were done but not satisfactorily. We also contracted to have some trees pruned, brick edging placed on the end of the walkway, moss remover applied to our steps and a trellis (or lattice) installed. These items were not done, without any explanation. His proposal also included pruning our rosebushes, but he delayed so much that we did this ourselves.
For the work that he did it was way too much money. I think they charged me for travel time too. They took three days to do the job, which could have taken one. In the beginning I thought he was great. He seemed to be interested. I have a small yard, which is apparent, so I thought that since he had dropped a flyer off at my house meant he was interested in smaller jobs. It later became clear to me that he was more into commercial and bigger jobs. He became less interested with me as his customer.
Description of Work: He cleaned my gutters, part of my deck and yard, and put up four storm windows, which was supposed to be six.
