They were great during the bidding and project talk in the beginning. Then they took a little longer than usual. Jesse who helped us was great. There were a lot of little problems but Jesse got them all fixed for us. Now that we had an inspection to sell our house 3 years later, inspector found live knob and tube wiring. We paid about 23,000 for this project and invoice stated all knob and tube replaced. We just called to talk to them about fixing this and we're told that it's not their concern since not under warranty. We told them it was actually a breach of contract and they said they would talk to supervisor. They called us right back and said we were out of luck. So they never completed job paid for and who know how much else they didn't complete and have since put a wood floor over it. We couldn't talk ourselves to a supervisor so are now reporting this. If there had been a fire from this we would not have been covered by insurance. This wouldn't cost a lost for them to come and finish the job we paid for 3 years ago
Description of Work: We used the provider through an energy trust loan. They were paid to insulate our attic, replace all 2nd floor windows, new furnace, basement insulation, and to remove all knob and tube electrical . I gave the process a "c" originally. There were some timing issues, wrong latches etc. But they fixed all of the little problems.

Work was performed at the rental house we own in N. Portland. Very responsive and professional project manager. Showed up at house for estimate and post install meeting on time. Dave, the project manager, was very personable. On the day of the install, the installers showed up on time, were courteous and conscientious. I arrived at the house when they were cleaning up and was impressed at their thorough job of cleaning up, including vacuuming up insulation from flower beds, grass, and sidewalk. These guys are thorough. I encourage you to consider Faison for your future work. They are top notch.

The completed the work in about 2 weeks. The crew did a very good job. They worked well together. I had an air leak and I thought our floor was not even. The foreman looked at it and decided that the door was sagging. He propped the door correctly by adding longer screws. He solved the problem instead of being distracted by my misunderstanding. I was impressed by that. I felt the price was very reasonable as well.

I called and talked to Mike at Faison Energy Solutions to see what insulating our drafty 1960 house would entail. It was so cold in one of our bedrooms that one of our grandbabies could not stay there so we knew we needed to do something. I also spoke to a couple of other companies but chose Faison Energy due to how detailed and knowledgeable Mike was regarding the options and also due to the fact that they could work with Clean Energy Works Oregon which would allow us to pay for the work with a loan paid for through Northwest Natural Gas monthly billing. After they came out to do the energy assessment I trusted that they would be able to do the job well. Mike and his team came out and I have never seen a more conscientous and hard working crew. They started work when they said they would and kept me well-informed about the process the whole time - which was a full two weeks. They were great. I have already noticed how much more evenly my house retains heat and the furnace comes on about half as much as it used to come on. Believe it or not, the first bill showed my energy consumption for natural gas was half what it was the year before. The electric was high but that was due to all the power tools involved (for Faison and another home improvement company finishing up work just ahead of them) and due to the fact that I have had a solid month of company since.
Description of Work: Insulation for the attic. Attic ventilation added. Old duct work redone properly. Holes and gaps filled in. Energy saving can lights insulation added. Wall insulation added. Floor insulation added where necessary.

The state program for doling out federal clean energy funds uses Fasion as a contractor. I had no choice in my selection of them as a result, once you take the state financing, you are locked into one and only one contractor.First of all, I agree that Dave provides excellent customer service and truly wants to do quality work. He is knowledgeable and very responsive when required.Initially, the work to insulate the attic and the sides of our 1957 home was performed on time and on schedule. Their insulation and sealing services did the trick and I realized the energy savigns that they had provided instantly. They also went above and beyond to make sure that I could re-establish an outside venting kitchen hood and to replace an old air conditioner that was installed into the wall with a window. At this point I was a very satisfied customer. However, in the spring I noticed that one of the windows that were installed began to leak a dark liquid into my home. I called Dave and he had someone come out as soon as possible to check it out, which was great. The subcontractor they brought in took out the window and quickly realized that the window had been installed without a header. This resulted in the framing sagging above the window which allowed the water in. This was a completely negligent window installation, but the sub fixed it in a day. The sub also told me the obvious, that the siding on my SW facing wall was in trouble. So when I endeavored to replace it in April of '12, I discovered that not only had the window been installed incorrectly, but Faison had drilled through the undercourse of siding, instead of pulling it off and replacing it, to blow in insulation. They simply threw in some plugs, applied some sealant and threw the outer course of cedar siding on top. They did not paper the hole or replace the undercourse. Many of the plugs then had nails put right through them as the siding was reinstalled, causing them to fail. Many others had sealant that failed due to drying (wrong type of sealant). Two of these plugs had let water into insulation that was blown into the walls. In one section the insulation was soaked in about a 2-3 sq ft section. I again contacted Dave and he was quick to help correct the problem (after I fixed the water damage to get on with my siding project) and sent the original crew to fix the problem. When I continued my siding project this summer, I discovered 3 holes in an 18ft section of the house that had not been repaired as promised. Fortunately they did let in any water. Contacted Dave for the 3rd time, and he sent out another sub to check all the plugs and fix the problems. If it were not for Dave, Faision would get an F despite the original good faith they had established. The sub is here today and found only one more problem hole thank goodness (I had already repaired the others on my own, again in order to finish my siding). Even with the energy savings and extras they provided with the original project, it is impossible for me to excuse the fact that they messed this up so badly so many times.if I had not discovered this problem, the water damage to my home in a few years would have been substantial. It is important to note that one of their team had remarked upon the most recent inspection that they had researched cedar siding on and quot;youtubeand quot; before working on my home. If you had cedar on your home and they did your retrofit, I would start checking that work now before the rain returns. UPDATE 7/28/12: Well we painted the repaired areas of siding this week and the sealant used by the last sub will not take the paint, so every seam and nail hole on the front of our house where there is lap siding looks stained where ever there is sealant. The sub did not use mud to fill the nail holes, he used sealant and it is not paint-able like he said it would be. So, I am saving money on greening my home, but easily losing just as much in loss of what little curb appeal this home has.
Description of Work: They were my contractor associated with a state program to provide energy retrofitting for our 1957 home. In using state-based grants & funding, I had no choice in contractor. Services provided included sealing air leaks, installing ventilation & 2 windows and blowing insulation into the attic & walls.

Response from Faison Energy Solutions LLC
First and foremost, I would like to emphasize how serious we take these warranty claims. We stand by our work and as Member has pointed out, we make every effort to correct any error as soon as possible. We have a very solid reputation with our customers, primarily because we normally get the job done right the first time. As a homeowner, I can certainly sympathize with the frustration Member is feeling. When you pay somebody to do something, you expect them to do it right. Unfortunately, this is not always the case, no matter who you hire. Due to the fact that mistakes will inevitably happen at some point in time, the only thing we can do as a company to correct them is to establish the customer as the highest priority and do whatever it takes to get it right, no matter the cost. This is how we approached Member’s warranty issues and are confident that the repairs were done per the best industry practices. One of the two windows we put in was installed incorrectly. The individual who installed this window is no longer working with Faison and has not installed windows on any of our other projects. To correct this issue, we brought in a subcontractor who has been working in the window industry for over 30 years. He corrected the problem over the course of a day. The holes that were drilled for the insulation were done in a way that we no longer practice, however even as of today, it is considered to be in line with standard industry practice. I spoke with 8-10 different contractors about their experience with drilling under cedar siding and a majority of them revealed they do it the same way: drill through the bottom layer of shingles and patch the plug with sealant. We have since learned of better ways of doing this work, and have established the improved technique as our standard. Unfortunately, this improved technique is not what they are teaching to the installers in our field, even at some of the top training programs in our area. The flaw in the wall insulation patching that was most responsible for the moisture intrusion was actually the type of sealant used. We used a product that was rated for cold conditions but it did not do as well as advertised, potentially due to the heavy rain at the time. We have since switched to a Vulkem brand sealant, which is widely accepted as the best material to use in this application. Once we were alerted by Member of these issues, we came back and implemented our new standards. In fact, our standards developed into what they are today because of the failures we found at Member’s house. (We are now drilling holes through the sheathing beneath both layers of siding, plugging and patching the holes with Vulkem, and covering the holes with tar paper.) The comment Member overheard from one of our crew members regarding watching a youtube video was from our crew leader who wanted to see all the different ways cedar shake is installed and repaired . This is not where our crew is learning how to do their job. It was simply something he did on his own time to see if he could find a different/better way than what he was taught in our local training. It was very disappointing that 4 holes were found to be inadequately repaired after we came back the first time. I know our crew put a lot of effort into the repairs and apparently were unable to find four holes underneath the siding. When Member called to report the problem, I decided to send out a siding specialist to handle the remaining repairs. The repairs were completed and Member was able to give his approval before we left. In response to the update left on 7/30, the sealant used on the front of the house was Sonolastic 150, a paintable sealant that is one of the best products on the market. The siding contractor has used this on every project he’s worked on in recent memory and has never experienced a conflict with paint. Knowing the frustration that Member was already experiencing, we were very careful with every detail during the repairs. We would not use a material that is inferior or inappropriate for the application. Additionally, we have begun to do follow ups with previous customers with cedar shake siding who hired us to insulate their walls to confirm the plugged holes are sealed appropriately. I would encourage anyone who is hiring a contractor to fill their cedar shake walls with insulation to make sure they are removing both layers and covering the sealed holes with tar paper or building wrap. Based on the information I have seen in our industry, I would suspect most companies are not doing it this way. I am very sorry that Member had to deal with these problems and I can certainly understand his frustration. The work performed at his home was not representative of the quality we strive for and we have made significant changes to ensure this does not happen again. Dave

Faison did (or supervised others in) extensive work in my attic, basement, and crawlspace, saw to the installation of a more efficient furnace and water heater, and a variety of other electrical, mechanical, and plumbing jobs, as described above. Their employees arrived when they said they would, and were, withoutexception, friendly, respectful, considerate, informative, diligent, tidy, hard-working, and efficient. I could not have been more pleased with the quality of their work, nor the spirit with which it was conducted. The cost was, I believe, reasonable and fair. Faison's project manager for the work on my home was unfailingly considerate and responsive to my concerns and questions, often anticipating these before I could formulate them. He communicated relevantly and often, listened well, and to an extraordinary degree conducted himself as if he had a personal stake in the outcome of the work. Moreover he was sensitive to issues of costs/expenses, and actively sought to minimize/reduce these whenever possible. He was a true blessing!

When Dave came over to provide a bid, it was obvious how interested and knowledgeable he is in and about his work. He was extremely easy to communicate with in person, by phone, and by e-mail. He provided us with all possible options and fully explained the weatherization process and how the possible energy rebate options would work. It couldn't have been more clear from the get go. We had planned to have the whole house completely weatherized (air sealing, attic, basement, crawl spaces) but decided that we stop with just the wall insulation. Even with the rebates, this is not an insignificant bill. I do hope to complete the work in the near future. I have no doubt that working with Faison will result in the highest quality work one can find, and at a very fair, competitive price. So after having committed to the whole weatherization project, they had no problems with our decision to limit the job. They are very good about working with their clients needs, in every possible way. For the sake of the appearance and integrity of the house, they carefully remove an outside board - rather than drilling multiple holes - and fill the walls with the insulation. The crew was wonderful to work with. Very careful to protect the house, inside and out. Very polite and hardworking and they explained each step of the way so that there weren't any surprises. And they cleaned up after themselves at the end of every day. I cannot recommend them more highly.

We worked with Jacob who was awesome. He really took his time to explain everything, and that was a job. There was so much to learn. We thought it would be so simple. They would look under the house and say "Yep. You need insulation". And do it. To qualify for the incentives you have to prove there was improvements by testing. So they have to test in and test out to show the house is more energy efficient. You have to pay a few hundred dollars for that, but if you use them for the improvements, they will apply that toward the job. However most of the incentives only apply to the materials and not labor. We are so glad we did it though. It shows what the most inefficient parts of your home are and where is the most cost effective place to put your money. I can't say enough about how efficient Jacob was testing and explaining. He was very knowledgable and spent a lot of time with us. He was also very good about not pressuring us. If we called or emailed, he got right back to us. Once we finally decided to go forward with the work, they worked from morning to night each day until the job was done. A lot of the work Jacob did himself. The other two men were polite, clean, very hard working and a pleasure to have around. We had one large room that never got comfortable in the winter. He rebuilt the whole duct system to that part of the house with larger ducts and less bends. It is a tight area to work. Problem gone. The furnace doesn't come on nearly as much either. They really did a great job and I trust Jacob. I think he is very honest and hard working and I would definitely work with Faison again.
Description of Work: tested for air tightness of house / tested air tightness of heating system / sealed up air leaks in crawl space / removed very old falling insulation / installed new insulation / insulated water pipes / sealed leaky air ducts / reconfigured and replaced ducts in rooms that weren't getting enough heat / installed duct dampers near furnace to balance heat flow / replaced damaged registers / installed additional cold air returns / weather striped crawl space access / retested airtightness of house and heating / helped with all energy trust and tax incentive paper work.

We started this process as part of a pilot program in our neighborhood to increase energy efficiency in the primarily older homes in the neighborhood. We received a very thorough energy audit, and Dave from Faison, and Sean from the energy program explained the results and what they might do for us very well, helping us to select a new hot water heater and furnace, as well as adding more insulation into the home. Faison was very useful in helping us communicate with the program and explaining how it all worked, and then completed the work exactly as described. They did a marvelous job in communicating with us all along the way.
Description of Work: Faison Construction was the general contractor for an energy efficiency update done on our 1930's era house. This started with a comprehensive energy audit looking specifically for energy leaks and ways to increase efficiency. As a result of the audit several items were suggested: o Insulate attic areas to reduce heat loss through the upper part of the house. o Insulate basement areas exposed to the outside to reduce heat loss. o Replace gas furnace with high-efficiency model. o Replace gas water heater with high-efficiency hybrid electric water heater. o Install radon mitigation system. During the energy audit, it was suggested that we check for radon gas in the basement. Faison was able to incorporate this into the original estimate which was a good thing since elevated radon levels were detected. Faison, working closely with the lenders and the radon mitigation company, was able to add the radon mitigation to the work order without increasing the cost of the job. This was accomplished largely by switching from a more expensive insulation solution in the attic (foam insulation) to a less expensive blown-in insulation and using the savings to pay for the radon work. The work was supposed to be done in the fall of 2010 but because of issues completely beyond the control of either Faison or us, they were not able to start work until December of 2010. Through out the process Dave and Sean and all the rest of the folks at Faison worked very hard to get the work done quickly, efficiently and with very high quality. We will use them again when we get to our next remodeling project.

Faison was brought in as the contractor for a loan I received to do an energy audit and efficiency project. I did not choose them myself, but I could not have been more pleased. The whole experience has left our home in a better condition and has left us with extensive knowledge about every nook and cranny of our 1925 home. We learned soooo much. Some of it was good and some bad, but necessary. The team working in our house was the same throughout the project, which was nice. They were courteous and efficient making it easy to have them in and out of our house on a daily basis. They were always aware of their impact on the house and did really thorough cleaning every single day they worked. The supervisors and staff always communicated directly and quickly with me and worked to resolve problems or issues. We had to make adjustments to our project a few times and it went smoothly. The project even came in UNDER budget! I would happily hire Faison again if the need arises.
Description of Work: They were brought in to insulate my entire home from the basement, ducts, floors, walls and attics.
